“So-So Sofitel,much prefer the Hyatt!”
Reviewed 31 August 2011

My partner and I stayed at the Sofitel back in January for a week long winter's break. After a lot of deliberation we picked Sofitel because of it's worldwide reputation and high standards, how wrong we were!.This hotel has gone from the transition of Half board to catering for All inclusive and this has seriously affected the standards. The food was unappertising, bland and their was very little choice, the service also poor. The good thing was the hotel offers the dine around option so you can dine in the other hotels for your evening meal but you have to pay for drinks which completely defeats the object of going all inclusive! The evening entertainment is lack lustre and repetitive and the only place you can get wine is in the restaurant, so we spent many an evening dining late on.
The hotel is ideally situated next to the beach along a strip of other hotels and there are a selection of swimming pools you can use, aswell as cheap plastic sun loungers.
We upgraded our room and it was absolutely perfect with a spectacular sea view.Their are not many places in the world where you can stand on your balcony and see 4 other countries and the sunsets are just amazing.
All in all we had a wonderful time in Taba Heights but wish we had stayed in the Hyatt next door as that hotel is 5* not a 3* hotel pretending to be a 5* due to it's brand name!!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a sea view and ask for a room on the higher floors to appreciate the spectacular sunset!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments .I can assure you that since your visit last January 8 months ago, a lot of has happened, including a new management team .It is always difficult to compare an all inclusive hotel with a hotel which is not. We hope that you will come again to visit us to see these changes.
Best regards.

My companion and I recently returned from the Sofitel Taba, after reading mixed reviews we were slightly apprehensive as to what we would find on our arrival. We booked the All-Inclusive package for one week flying from Manchester on Thompson Airlines the flights and meals on the aircraft were of a good standard and we enjoyed our pre flight cuppa at Manchester knowing it would be our last for a week!
On arrival at the Sofitel we were given a thorough introduction to the facility’s and a in-depth briefing as to meal times etc, as both my companion and I hadn’t been All inclusive before we listened intently to the information given.
The weather was ideal however I would recommend everyone to squirt on there partners lashings of sun cream, it really was that hot, but nether the less very enjoyable. The evening entertainment was as previously reported quite low key my partner and I preferred to sit at the back of the activity’s and play our own games. We did have one scare however when we discovered what we thought was a snake on our patio it turned out to be a branch however in the dark it could easily have been mistaken for a snake!
The clientele at the Sofitel was mixed we did however speak to other visitors at the bar its amazing how courteous people are when approached politely.
Both my partner and I are not good swimmers but we did follow through our plan to at least sit in the sea, it was warmer than the pool and from the jetty you could see all types of interesting marine life.
Apart from watching the limited entertainment at night my partner and I liked to walk along the front to the hammocks strung between the palm trees at night you can see the stars I enjoyed pointing out various interesting features and it was amazing how many passing people showed an interest in our activity.
The meals were very good and all tastes were catered for including wine with the meals both at lunch and evening meals we were most surprised to be offered re-fills and some night’s we would consume 2 glasses!!
So to sum up our time at Sofitel, we found the food very good, the staff attentive the rooms spotlessly clean and the weather divine.

Stayed in this hotel 26th to 23rd August.

Yes, there were a few hiccups (I've travelled all around the world and it's hard to find a hotel without hiccups) but any problems were sorted immediately in a friendly and helpful manner.

Rooms are spacious, we stayed in a double sea view and even though an extra bed was put in there for our 5 year old, there was still plenty of room and oh my word, views to die for!

Food was fab, nothing was too much trouble for the wonder Rashed and his staff. Rashed went out of his way with our fussy 5 year old to ask what he would like for dinner each evening and this was cooked especially for him.

Rashed noticed (being a vegetarian) that I only ate pasta, veg and rice each evening (well, what else is there) and on a sea food evening, he insisted the chef cook something extra special just for me.

Hotel was really busy given school holiday season, but we never had to wait for a table at mealtimes.

The pool area was busy, found we were up early for beds around the pool but plenty going on the beach if that's preferable.

I had my hair washed and blow dryed in hotel beauty salon. I got to say, for £20 I had the best blow dry ever!

Spa was peaceful and spotlessly clean and had its own quiet pool. We noticed a further quiet pool but being with our very excited 5 year old, we left that to the grown ups!

The only thing bad for me was the pillows, very uncomfortable and I will take my own next time to aid a good night's sleep.

Overall, a wonderful hotel with wonderful facilities and wonderful staff (especially Rashed in Aladdin restaurant)

Very sad to leave the Sofitel and already looking to book again for November.

If you want a good quality hotel with great pools and fantastic snorkelling and scuba then stay here. Yes, I suppose you could say it's not top notch 5 star but we have paid £11k on 2 weeks to the caribbean fir 5 of us and I think the children enjoyed this better at less than half that. The family suite is great and if pays to email the hotel ahead of time and request a nice view etc, they will accommodate. If you want opulence and splendour then go to Dubai but the hotel and staff all try very hard to make it a memorable holiday. The food was varied but got a bit samey towards the end of two weeks. However, the shopping centre on the resort has a fee restaurants which are great and good value for money. My children are 11, 9 and 4 and there was something for all incl the kids club which was great! The coral island cruise is well worth the money and the submarine is fab too. For a great "safe" holiday option with AMAZING snorkelling right off the beach then book - no brainer! Please also don't panic about stomach bugs. It is common to pick something up but you can buy tablets there (v cheap) that clear it in hours.

we returned from the sofitel wednesday last week and really do miss the place so much, the hotel is very impressive and the pools and beach really lovely. went snorkelling here for the first time and it really was an amazing thing to do like swimming in a very large aquarium the fish swimming rite upto your face not scared of you at all, so definatly take a snorkle with you. The food is quite good the normal you would expect for an all inclusive, always something to eat and the food was hot which is good when your cooking for so many people. Be prepared for any male members of your party to wear long trousers for the evening meal, we were prepared for this and didnt mind at all but a lot of people didnt know and it did cause some problems we do think it is something thomson should tell you when you book. The staff members are really friendly always smiling, even though they work long hours. they couldnt help you enough. Our room was 2442 which had an amazing view over the beach and the red sea and we could see jordan and saudi. We did the jeep safari while we were there which was great fun even though we had a tyre blow out on the way back the driver was excellent. Also at this hotel we found othere holiday makers very friendly and we spoke to so many people from all different places while we were there, a special mention to Ben and Nicci the holiday would have not been the same if we had'nt met you .The entertainment could be a bit better, but if you want great sunshine a nice hotel and see great sea life , and a very relaxing place to be this is the holiday to go for

Room Tip: there are 3 blocks at the hotel we think block 2 is the best block 1 does overlook the pool area, we...

We had a great time at Sofitel Taba, the location among the mountains is fantastic, the staff were very friendly and helpful, very good food.
At arrivals the check in was very fast and smooth, we were told enough info. And about wearing long trousers at dinner, It was very comfort to see smiley staff at the same time of hard work in rush time, (Mohamed Essam and Emad) were very helpful in many occasions.

The food in restaurant was very delicious, different kind of food each night, very funny staff at res. And Bars

It was really nice experience we wish to go visit it again
