Anyone with any doubts if this hotel is 5 star needs to also spend some time in the Intercontinental (next door).
Sofitel is 3*+ at best~ even allowing for it being a holiday hotel.
The resort in general is OK for a 'sit in the sun' break or for easy access to Petra etc, otherwise nothing else much there that isnt over priced at its captive audience.
Unfortunately we would be unable to recommend this hotel to friends as they'd expect better.

My friend and I booked this all inclusive package holiday for 16 days. The hotel is nice but is definately not up to the rest of the sofitel hotel standards. The food is extremely repetive and so-so. If you are looking for a party this is not the place to stay. If you want quiet and away from the crowds it is good.

We went to Elat, Isreal and wished we'd stayed there as there were better restaurants and fun.

Holiday in Sofitel was great dream for us, hotel, staff, food, pools, everything was nice and perfect. Red Sea is unique (the best diving is from Hyatt pier). We want return there soon!

We have just returned from Sofitel in Taba Heights after going in October 2007, we decided we would go back to see how much it had changed, and we weren't dissapointed. The hotel is still really clean and all the staff are really friendly.

FOOD: The food was good with a good variety every day there was chicken and another meat available and regular BBQ's with a couple of different meat chioces. If you are a fussy eater or if there wasn't anything that suited you could try the pasta man who makes it how you like it. There is also a man that cooks omellete or any type of eggs you want at breakfast with all the usual cereals, juices, pastries and toasters available.

Facilites: The hotel is set in a large area with 3 wings, we were in the new wing, which is furthest away from the main reception area, so it's a bit of a walk to the main dining room and bars but after all the food it done us good to have a walk. They have added another swimming pool, but we went to the main one everyday, where the entertainment staff were based , this could get a bit noisy with the music and the belly dancing lessons, but it had entertainment factor. The bar next to reception is air conditioned, but the bar by the pool isn't, and since we went last time they have glazed the bar, so it gets really hot. It was a shame as the had a Fishermans special meal in that bar in the evening which my husband wanted to try, but was really hot compared to the main dining area so didn't

Weather: The weather was amazing with temperatures around 37 degrees every day, one day it was 41 in the shade at 5pm! Most days it was quite breezy until lunchtime, but then the breeze dissapeared and the only relief was to have a swim in the cool pool.

Beach: The beach was a little disapointing for me as it is really rocky on the entrance to the sea, and rather rough sea made it difficult to snorkel, also the sand also gets really hot, a number of occasions my husband and i laughed at the coolness of some people walking on the sand with no shoes on then coming to a trot then almost sprinting off of the sand making funny faces and oooh ahhh hot hot. My husband got a blister on his toe from the hot sand that went into the front of his flip flop, so make sure you take suitable beach shoes for the rocks and take your flip flops into the sea with you to make it back to the sunbed without burning your feet.

We went for 2 weeks and felt guilty that we hadn't actually done any trips or anything, but the whole point of the holiday to us was to chill out and that's what we did, the biggest decision i had to make was whether to have a swim or have another drink?

The return journey: We were told to be in reception for 6pm and all three flights Manchester, Birmingham and Gatwick were all picked up at the same time from all of the hotels in the area, therefore we all arrived at the airport at the same time, so that's 800 - 900 people in an area not suitable for that amount of people, we queued for about an hour to check in (hense the vast amount of people) and was then ushered through the passport control area, a man stamps your passport then another one asked to see it, not sure if they are checking anything, other than each others work, but seemed a little overkill to me. The departure lounge is again not big enough for the emount of people expected to wait for 2 hours, the duty free shop is about the size of my bathroom and there is a snack bar who were charging £4 for a bag of crisps so if you can, eat before you leave your hotel.

Duty free shop: It's cheaper to buy things in the main town, (3 corners), our hotel was charging nearly double the price for things like cigarettes and souveniers, so it's worth the trip to the main town which is easy on the buses, there is a supermarket, a pharmacy and a few bits and bobs shops.

We will certainly be returning in the future, and after speaking to a number of people at the airport, the Sofitel is the better hotel to stay for the food variety and facilities, there were reports of sickness at a couple of the other hotels in the area, but my husband and i were fine as we were last time we went to this hotel.

We have just spent a glorious week at the Sofitel, Taba Heights. If you want a relaxing holiday this is a fabulous hotel to stay in. Two superb natural water pools, a sea pool and a stones throw away from a fantastic beach, in which there is a jetty that allows for fantastic snorkeling.

Breakfast was great, lunch very good and dinners based on the themed evenings were inconsistent, some nights were better than others.

The staff were all very friendly and very professional. The recreation team was very good.

This is a hotel that I would consider returning to and indeed hope to do so in the Autumn.

I just came back form Sofitel Taba. The hotel is very nice. It was my first time in Egypt and I was a little bit worried about food and so on... drinks are ok, food also... it is not excelent restaurant but remember how much you payed for your stay. Beach is veeery nice, Sofitel is the only one in Taba Heights that has sandy beach! It is boring hotel, there is nothing to do at the evenings, but I wanted to relax and it was no problem for me.

For relaxing week it is very good!

I visited the Sofitel on the 2nd June for a week with my friend who was also female.
First impression when arrived at the airport was what have i got into, Taba Airport is surrounded by nothing but desert - getting to the coaches were farely easy, beware that they do not let the travel reps in the airport so they all wait outside with clipboards.
Once on the coach we had to wait at the border for the rest of the convoy to arrive, we then travelled through the border with armed guards at the front and rear of the convoy. It is very dark so there is nothing to see.
On arrival to the hotel we were told to go eat as the restaurant had stayed open for us, while a bellboy took our cases to our room.
At this time of night i wasn't in the mood for food and just wanted to go and get to the room, but the receptionist was very insistent we go eat.

First morning woke up we explored a little, first glances the hotel is rather large and has some impressive scenery. The hotel itself is very clean and there is always sight of handymen around the place.

The food is very bland and repetetive, its a choice of chicken, beef, chicken, beef... Breakfast is very much the same aswell...
Do not do what me and my friend did as we thought that the Teppan Grill was actually part of all inclusive, sat down ordered water and was then given a menu with prices on! Which by that point we were tied in...

We spent most of our time by the little pool, and made some fantastic friends there, it was these people that kept us entertained on a evening as the entertainment in the Sultana Bar was virtually non-existent...

Would i visit Taba again? Yes but i would certainly be very cautious as to go with another female on our own again as the waiters if they take a shine to you can be very persistent, and will not leave you alone! I had numerous marriage proposals and flowers, they try to woo you out of the hotel - I stood my ground but on one occasion a certain waiter did actually state "Another man touch you i will kill them" - Which as a 21 year old was very frightening.

Overall i enjoyed the holiday, but because of the people we had met! Helen & Clive, Paul & Paula, and last but not least Vicki and Gary. (Who we will see in OK magazine very shortly) lol..
