“Great Great Value”
Reviewed 6 July 2009

From the second we arrived at the Sofitel until the time we left we had 14 days of the most relaxing holiday ever with definately the best value for money. The spacious and clean room was adjacent to the new pool area, no problem with sun lounges(plenty of them) although the towel guy reserved our beds outside our room every day. The bars and restaurant were in easy reach , all staff were very friendly(especially after they had been given a small gratuity) and helpful and the food terrific, we found that every night their was always something we enjoyed, we did visit the Asiatic Restaurant and had our meal cooked in front of us what a showman the chef was although the wine was very pricey at £50 a bottle (more expensive than the meal). The snorkelling was good in front of the Sofitel but much better in front of the neighbouring hotel (newer coral). Weather was between 35- 40 degrees every day with not a hint of rain exactlly what it stated in the brochure - zero rain with most days a nice breeze.
We only saw one creepy the whole two weeks and NO mossies, although we stuck religiously with ensuring plenty of water consumption my wife suffered a little bit with the dicky tummy but a trip to the pharmacy soon cleared the problem.
Entertainment was limited but a night under the stars with a few drinks were very relaxing.
In summary just what the doctor ordered, a very relaxing holiday in superb surroundings with fabulous staff and at a low cost.

This was our third visit to Taba, we had previously stayed at the Marriott on half board but on this occasion decided to try all inclusive with mixed results. Firstly, the hotel and surroundings were clean and the rooms comfortable and well sized. The restaurant became very busy towards the end of our stay as more guests arrived and at times the food quality was less than we had hoped for, however, given that they are catering for 1000 diners in the evening and some 800 at lunchtime (so we were told) I guess all food is going to be a bit of a compromise, having said that, a couple of the meals were very good. At all of the meals there was a good selection of meat, fish and veggie options so if anyone complains of lack of choice they would be someone difficult to please. One evening my wife was asked her view of the meal and responded by saying it was not so good, within a few minutes we were joined by the Restaurant Manager (Abdel Hamid?) who showed a genuine interest in our comments and offered to arrange for some alternative food to be provided (declined) - if only more hotels showed the same interest.
We found the all inclusive rules a little strange, for instance, wine was available free in the restaurant but had to be paid for the (rather drab) bar where spirits were free, we tried to obtain a bottle of water also in the bar but were told this was also chargeable as were more than two small bottles of water supplied each day in the room but beer seemed available everywhere all day free of charge which is what has given rise to our suspician of all inclusive deals as it seemed to attract some interesting customers! As before in Taba we both suffered a bout of stomach problems but I think this may be down the heat and a different diet rather than hygiene issues. Finally, one of the reasons we have returned to Taba is that almost with exception the hotel staff are genuinly friendly and are a delight to meet, this has not changed, whether the resort is very good at picking staff or whether all Egyptians are naturally hospitable I don't know - they do respond well to a smile and thank-you which some guests seemed unable to provide. Would we go back to Taba? - probably, yes but back to half board and maybe at the Marriott or another, untried hotel.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Sofitel and really enjoyed it. If your looking
for a quiet, chill out holiday then this is for you but be warned it is HOT HOT HOT !! 45 degrees most days, great if you like that kind of heat but if you don't then stay away during these summer months. We wanted to do some trips whilst we were there but it was just to much in that heat. There is nothing going on in Taba so everything is based around the hotel. The food was fine (usual buffett style, bit repetative) but we didn't suffer any stomach problems. Not much entertainment at the hotel so if your looking for the nightlife this is not for you.
I would recomment the Sofitel to adults (nothing going on for kids) looking to completely relax in the sun. This was a good value for money holiday.

This was my 2nd visit and my husbands 1st (went with our daughter last time) and can honestly say we had a wonderful holiday.
From the moment you enter the spacious reception you are treated wonderfully by the reception staff and that carries on the entire holiday from the pool boys to the restaurant and bar staff, the guys who clean the rooms and even the gardeners around the hotel. I have never been anywhere where the staff are more friendly and respectful.
We had a room in the new block which was quite a treck but worth it as it was huge and beautifully furnished and the bathroom had a walk in wet room - fab!!
You are left 2 bottles of water in your fridge every day and you can top them up around the hotel pools from the large water containers.
The food was very good, always something nice to eat, we wondered what other reveiwers were complaining about - any buffet is repetetive after 2 weeks and it is an Egyptian hotel not Spanish! And my husband who never eats desserts didn't stop!
We did eat in the Asiatic a la carte restaurant as well. We sat with others at the teppan grill and watched the chef cook our meal. I won't give too much away but go, the food was great and the entertainment even better. Not too pricey, around £20-£25 a head for 3 courses, water and sangria.
The pool areas are lovely. We spent the first few days sitting round the new smaller pool which was quieter, the next few days on the beach which we loved as you just wandered into the sea with or without snorkels and watched the fish, then the remainder around the main pool where we met some great people and spent those last days laughing til it hurt! It was like having 3 different holidays!
The evenings are very quiet so don't go there if you want lots of crazy nightlife but there is the usual hotel entertainment run by the hard working animation team and our good friend DJ Ali to get you up dancing after 11.00.
I can't recommend this hotel enough!

This hotel is beautiful, the gardens, the receptions, the rooms - everything.
The staff are friendly, more than happy to help you. I went all inclusive and found the food to be great, despite having heard loads of negative reviews - I have no idea what these people expected, but we found the food perfectly adequate. For a buffet you know the food is not going to be a la carte, so don't expect it, but it's certainly not bad. There are different themed nights including tex mex, oriental, italian and seafood.
The pools are lovely, the sea water pool does look a bit strange (the water being dark green in colour!) but I braved it once and didn't suffer from it!
The beach is also nice, but the snorkelling is definitely better down at Sharm. The jetty for the Sofitel is very close to the coral so it's difficult to avoid it in a rough tide - and it can be quite painful. There are still plenty of fish to see in the shallow waters - I saw a manta ray in only a foot of water!
I loved this holiday, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to have a truly relaxing holiday. It would be good for adults, couples and honeymoons, but not for people expecting a good nightlife.

Just came back from holiday at the sofitel this was our second time here , however we have been coming years to egypt (SHARM) we wasn't sure if we should returnbecause we really enjoyed it the first time and they were building a extension and we thought it might spoil it but i am glad we came back because it was just as great as the first time. the hotel is on the beach so you have a choice where you want to spend your days. the hotel is set in good sized grounds and no matter where in the hotel you are everywhere is clean this is onething that matters to us. bedrooms are spacious and well fitted out draws and more draws brillant all the staff cannot do enough for you and everyone speaks.
if you want a relaxed holiday then sofitel is the place to come. just one more thing we all have our favorite staff on holiday the one's that stood out that little bit more were Mohanned from the pool, and bar lads Eslam & Hagagy to finish off i would just like to stay we have not been poorly either time we stayed and we have our 9 year old grandson with us. when i read people saying its the food it makes me smile its never the sun or too much drink is it .
