Sofitel Taba Heights

Have recently returned home after 2 weeks at Sofihotel Taba Heights -- My wife and I were somewhat concerned before we arrived as we had experienced severe tummy related problems at a previous all inclusive resort in the Cape Verdi Islands -- Our experience at Taba was like comparing chalk and cheese -- The food was excellent even though it became a little bit repetitive by the end of the holiday , likewise we could not have wished to have received better service from all members of staff -- Rooms and facilities exceeded our expectations -- This is a relaxing holiday experience and should not be compared with other Red Sea resorts
Attention to detail appears to be the Management focus and they regularly spoke to guests to check that their needs we being met ---
A special mention for Mr Mohamed HAMMADY Front Office Manager who together with other members of staff made our long awaited holiday a very good experience

My wife and I spent a week in the Sofitel and were very happy with our experience. The room was spotless, the food - for buffet - very good with a good choice each day. The staff were very friendly but few, including management, could speak or understand much English so at times it was difficult to make yourself understood. We would have liked a hotel directory in the room so that we did not have to go to reception each time we wanted to contact laundry, room service etc.It is not a place to go for lots of night life! Nevertheless, we thought that to hotel matched up to the positive reviews it has had.

We went here for a week lying in the sun reading a book and this hotel was ideal.
There is nothing in Taba Heights except for 5 hotels, a golf course and a few tourist shops, so dont go for culture or Egyptian atmosphere.
Of the 5 hotels we thought the design of the Sofitel was the least ugly. Its set round a large pool area, with salt water, warm and cold pools and there's easy access to the beach with sunbeds, parasols and windbreaks where you can sunbathe a bit more privately.
There is a gym, sauna , tennis courts and a jogging track. Activities for children and for grown-ups eg belly dancing lessons if you want them - but nothing forced on you.

The room was quite spacious with a good balcony with sitting space, as you would expect in a 5* hotel, but the bathroom, although it had a nice walk-in shower, was too small and not well-designed. No tea/coffee facilities. We paid extra for a sea view but the first room we were given required you to lean over the balcony and crick your neck in order to see it! We were moved to a better room but not until the second day. Judging by the long list of requests to move that reception had, this was a common occurrence.
Service was very good - all the staff were polite and helpful, and no-one asked for a tip - they are not allowed to accept individual tips and I expect it would be more than the job was worth to disobey that rule.
This was an all inclusive only hotel. This was our first time in such a place so did not really know what to expect. I disliked the indignity and irritation of having to wear a wrist band all the time. It was great to be able to get very large G&Ts any time after 11 am 'free', but wine was available only with lunch and dinner and there were other restrictions such as ice cream only being available from 12 noon to 5 pm and not after dinner. There was no alternative to the all inclusive buffet menu apart from a very expensive Japanese restaurant and the food was poor, Breakfast was ok but lunch and dinner apart from the salads left much to be desired. At dinner there was usually a beef dish a chicken dish and a fish dish and always they consisted of pieces of meat/fish with soggy veg floating in a greasy sauce. The puddings were either sickly sponges or tasteless cheesecake type concoctions in a variety of garish shades of pink, green and yellow. Not much fresh fruit.
One other problem - there was a plague of sparrows all round the hotel, including the beach and the restaurant area, which became a bit annoying after a while

A superb hotel supported by excellent staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were all very polite.
The variation of food in the 1 large all inclusive restaurant was good but the option of an alternative style on 2 or 3 nights would have been appreciated. They have the L'Asiatique restaurant but food a drink here has to be paid for (UK prices!).
The hotel beach is very clean and well provided with sun loungers and fixed parasols. The grounds and pools are superbly maintained and never looked crowded.
Evening entertainment could be better but there were plenty of areas to enjoy a quiet drink without having to watch the same show twice (even if it did have a different theme title!)
The resort consists of 5 hotels, an 18 hole golf course (which looked superb), a water sports centre and 'uptown/downtown' which has a few shops and restaurants all of which were very quiet. Not much to do unless you like golf!
All in all a very good experience and Bert Plas should be very proud of his hotel and the staff he has working with him particularly Mohamed Hammady, Front Office Manager who made our stay very special.

We have just returned from our 6th visit to Sofitel Taba Heights and am just about to book again for November. You are welcomed by the reception staff who are delightful and luggage is taken swiftly to your room which is extremely clean and spacious with all the amenities plus bottles of water in the fridge . There is plenty of hanging space and drawers and the beds are either two queen sized beds or one 7' bed.The air conditioning is very welcome as when we were there the temperatures were between 36 - 38 degrees. The staff are exceptional and having travelled the world I can honestly say that we were treated like very special people by all the staff without exception. The pools - one cold, one heated and one seawater (plus another by the new extension to the hotel) are wonderful but we spent our time on the beach. The recreation staff look after you with a smile and a willingness to please - Mohamed Badawy must get a special mention but nothing was too much trouble for any of them (Mahmoud, Yasser, Ossama, Abdulla, Alaa, Sherif, Mohammed Amin). There is a bar by the pools where you will be looked after by Nosa and Reda and at lunchtimes you can have salads, fresh pizza etc or go to the main restaurant for a wonderful meal. The food is varied and each night there is a different theme. Ibrahim, the pasta chef is worth a visit and the pasta is cooked to your liking with whatever you like added to it. Executive Chef Wahid keeps a very close eye on everything and everyone and he is a delightful man always smiling and eager to please. He is very innovative and constantly searching for ways to make the food more attractive and presentable. He made us feel very special at all times. Try a visit to the Asiatique restaurant where you can have sushi or sit round the Teppan grill whilst the chef cooks the food you have selected - well worth a visit. The gardens are very well groomed and there is constant work done on them - no weeds seen here. There is a fitness centre with a weights gym and also exercise machines and here also you can indulge yourself with a massage by either of the Thai girls. I have had many Thai massages by Orathai or Natta - lovely girls. The sauna is located here too and there is another pool here to cool yourself off in. Each night there is a show organised or involving the Animation Team ably led by Chico supported by Rico, Heba and Mido all under the overall management by Ibrahim Shawky. A regular shuttle bus is available to take you to Waterworld, the golf club and El Wekala which is know as 'uptown' and consists of a number of restaurants and a variety of shops (a pharamacy, supermarket, souvenir shop and a few others). the Flying Carpet is the only restaurant I have been to and served delicious food. If you want a holiday heavy on nightlife then this may not be the place for you, if however you want to relax and 'recharge your batteries' then Sofitel Taba Heights, under its efficient, capable and welcoming management team is definitely the place for you. As a golfer perhaps the only disappointing thing about Taba Heights is that the price for playing golf is excessive albeit that the golf course has matured to a very good level. Trips can be taken to Petra, Cairo or St Catherine's monastery (plus others) but we have not experienced any of them to date. Boats sail from Waterworld to various dive sites and snorkelling is super although not up to the standard of the Maldives!!
