“EXCELLENT STAY ALL ROUND”
Reviewed 11 September 2010

Myself and my wife and just returned from a fantastic 2 weeks at the Sofitel. We were looking for a top quality hotel for a relaxing stay and this is exactly what we got. The hotel is made extra special by its staff, especially in the main restaurant, I would like to praise Dina, Soma and Gasser for always going the extra mile. Would recommened the Asian Restaurant , we treated ourselves in here a few times throughout the stay, well worth paying the extra, the lobster was amazing!!!!!!
The rooms were of an excellent standard our cleaner could not be faulted
We booked some excursions aswell with Thomson through our holiday advisor Craig, they were excellent, we booked the VIP Cruise snorkerling and Cairo both were a great experience.
All in all would highly recommened this hotel to anyone, and have already re-booked for a week in November

This was a great holiday and great value for money. Good service, great rooms and chef Wachim did a great job of feeding the several hundred people that each day flocked to the restaurants- no mean feat considering the ethnic and social mix of people at the resort. Only one gripe really- people were arranging for towels to be put out for them early in the morning around the pool so that by 8am the best positions around the pools were taken. Everybody should have a fair crack at the pool but I guess some guests were paying pool attendants to put out their towels. We elected therefore to go to the much quieter salt pool as some large groups of visitors and children were noisy and inconsiderate. The shopping centre at Taba is very limited but has supermarket, pharmacy, gift shops etc.. The free bus around the resort was very handy. Would definately go back to Sofitel Taba.

Happy to be their for relaxing for few days. I enjoy the quiet pool, during the day, and setting in an out door area for reading my book, after hours.

After reading good and bad reviews I decided that the Sofitel was the right hotel in Taba for my girlfriend and I.

A good decision it turned out to be!

Food: Good - Very good
Accommodation: Excellent
Free Drinks: Good
Staff: Good - Very good
Entertainment: Poor 9but is as described local entertainment)

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, then its perfect. Very clean, , giant beds, great shower, good food (and I don't have the strongest of stomachs).

The coral and fish directly outside are very good, lots to be seen.

The shop at the hotel is very expensive, so buy snacks, snorkels etc elsewhere!

We (my wife and I plus our 4 children (14, 12, 4 & 1)) have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Sofitel and had a fantastic time. There are a few gripes but nothing that spoiled the holiday.

From the top...our flight from Gatwick was delayed by over an hour so not the best of starts (it didn't help that we seemed to be the only Thomson flight delayed that day). One tip would be to book youreselves in to a lounge at the airport. In relative terms the cost of this is not great when added to what you are spending on the holiday. It was very relaxing for us and somewhere safe for the kids to cause chaos for a couple of hours. Free food and drink help!!

Taba airport is a nightmare, very slow and chaotic which can be painful when travelling with young children but ultimately this doesn't detract from the trip. Having arrived late at the hotel (approximately 2 hours overdue) the check-in staff were excellent. We were at the back of the queue but the process didn't seem to take that long and being greeted with a cold drink was very welcome. A pleasant surprise was that the hotel porters took our bags to our rooms whilst we went for dinner. Having done many European holidays it was nice to not have to worry about dragging bags and tired kids to our room before thinking about food! Well, that was the theory...after dinner and eventually finding our room (a very helpful member of the hotel staff escorting us there when we were clearly lost) we found that our bags hadn't yet arrived. A quick call to reception though and they were with us in 5 minutes.

The hotel kept the restaurant open late for our arrival which was much appreciated. We have been on All Inclusive holidays before where there were no dinner options available at arrival due to the time - not great with kids and usually means you end the evening on crisps and junk from the local shops!

It has to be said that the staff are excellent and cannot do enough for you. Treat them with a little respect and they will go to all lengths to help you out. They work very hard and for long hours for what is very little money. They do not expect tips and you never feel that you have to tip, however it is definitely deserved based on the service you get. We tipped twice during the stay, once in the middle and again at the end of our stay. I think in total we gave about EGP200 (approx. GBP20).

We spent most of our holiday around the 'quiet pool' rather than the beach front main pool complex. This was very relaxing and chilled. There was a good mixture of nationalities and everyone seemed to get on well. There was a distinct lack of 'Brits Abroad' which was welcome. We were occasionally bombarded by some rowdy groups in the pool but this either died down quickly or the pool attendant (a member of the 'recreation' team) had a word and the rowdiness either stopped or they moved on). The bar here is amply stocked although one day it did run out of ice cream and we were told that the hotel wouldn't be serving any more (for the rest of our holiday, which was about a week) from that bar. A quick word with the catering manager in the hotel and it was soon resolved....!

We spent a little time in the main pool complex as our little boy wanted to play with the basketball hoop in the pool. The pools are lovely and huge. Despite it being very busy the pools seemed relatively empty and there was acres of space to play in. We didn't stay around this side of the hotel long enough to make use of the Animation Team so can't comment as to whether they were good or bad.

The restaurants.....we weren't very impressed with the Lotus Bar (main poolside bar). The food is okay but a bit basic. We only ate there twice and after the first time preferred to have lunch in the main restaurant. The second visit was on our last day as we thought it would make sense to have a late meal as we wouldn't be eating again until much later on the flight home. We were disappointed to find that there was no food at all other than pizza. Everything else had finished. The pizza's are okay but not great.

The food in the main restaurant is really very good. I'm sure there will be plenty of reviews that will say it was a bit 'samey' after two weeks but what do you expect...?? They have to cater for many different nationalities and a large number of people. Having done all inclusive before I would happily say that the food here was of some of the best quality I have had on holiday. There is limited choice but easily enough to please most tastes unless you are particularly fussy. Our kids managed absolutely fine and we were happy that they were adventureous enough to try things they wouldn't ordinarily touch! The restaurant staff are brilliant and we were always seated very quickly and provided with a clean highchair....if you've travelled with babies before you know that high chairs can often be pretty scummy. The only two gripes about the restaurant are:

1) occasionally the drinks service could be pretty slow. Bearing in mind the overall hotel service is very very good it was sometimes frustrating to be left too long before drinks orders were taken and/or delivered. On one occasion we had practically finished our meal before the drinks arrived.
2) the waiters are great but some times the attention they gave our two eldest girls was unwanted and a bit tiresome. It was nice at first but by the end of the holiday our 12 year old was thoroughly fed up with the attention. At one time our two girls went to lunch on their own with a group of friends and we understand it was worse.

The bedrooms are a good size. We were lucky enough to get two interconnecting rooms which made life much easier. They were cleaned every day to a good standard and the air-con is very good. We never had any problems with the showers (as referred to in some other reviews). A small but positive point is the room safe...you don't need any deposit to use it unlike other hotels. They have a nice little balcony but be careful what you leave outside to dry. It's our own fault but our 4 year olds swim shoes were stolen one night. You just don't expect people to do that on holiday.

The beach is great and the water lovelly. We were always able to get sunbeds and ample shade. We really enjoyed the snorkelling and I had my first go at scuba diving which was superb. We would recommend you take your own swim shoes from the UK. You can buy them locally for about GBP4 but they're not great quality. If you don't think you'll use them again then buy them there and leave behind.

We didn't do any of the excursions because we didn't feel the younger ones would cope with the journey times.

This was our first trip to Egypt and we are already thinking of going back. It was one of the most relaxing and best holidays we have had. The weather is fantastic and the people are great. We don't usually return to the same place but this time may well do so. We would hate to go again and stay somewhere else that just wasn't up to the same standard.

We have just had another fantastic holiday at the Sofitel Taba Heights. We always said that we would not go back to the same place twice but after our stay at the Sofitel last year we knew after only 3 days that we were were going to come back and we did with no regrets. There is not one bad thing that we can say about this hotel. It is the perfect place for a relaxing chilled out holdiay. We arrived at the hotel at around 10.45pm and were greeted with a complimentary drink and a wonderful welcome from the staff, our luggage was brought up to our room within no time. The restaraunt was kept open till late so that we could have something to eat before settling down for the night. The staff certainly look after you at this hotel. The views from every angle of the hotel are panoramic, especially if u r an early riser and watch the sun rise over the mountains.
All management and staff are excellent and will go out of their way to help. Bert Plas the hotel general manager is always on site around the hotel as are his deputy managers and they are happy for you to talk to them at any time. The staff are so friendly, helpful and kind. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them. We spent our holiday around the quiet pool and it was so relaxing, the first week Big Mohammed was on duty around the pool and always with a smile and a morning greeting when we saw us. He is a fantastic guy and we had lots of laughs with him. Please dont take any notice of peoples comments about tipping these guys around the pool to put towels on your beds as this is a load of rubbish, if u tell them where u would like to sit then they come and set up the beds with the towels for u, they would rather set the towels out on the beds for you to help u NOT for tips. I once said to Big Mohammed that i didnt mind putting my towels on and he said that we are on holiday to relax and that he is more than happy to lay towels on our beds, we though that was wonderful. The second week Ahmed was back and he remembered us from last year, he was also very helpful and friendly. All the recreation team are great. Our speciall thanks go to Big,middle and little Mohammed, ossama and Ahmed for making our stay a special and memorable one. We had some good laughs with them. We would also like to mention the bar staff Haggargy
, Mahmoud(sweet cheeks) this is what Amy called him, and all the rest of the team in the Sultana bar, sorry i cannot remeber your names, they were so friendly and funny, we spent most of our evenings in this bar and never stopped laughing with them, they managed to serve all of the other customers and still had a laugh with us.
The service and food in the restaurant was fab, Suma always greeted us with a smile and warm welcome and showed us to our table, lovely lady, the food was superb with a choice for everyone. Our daughter is quite fussy n will only eat chips and pizza but she enjoyed trying the different fish, pasta and meat dishes, the chefs work very hard and do a fantastic job, the head chef (forgot his name) was always walking around the restaurant and was very friendly, the waiters worked very hard and were very friendly, if u needed anything, u just asked and they got it without any hesitation.
During our stay we had problems with very noisy neighbours from 5.30am so i mentioned this to Mai the guests relations manager and within no time we were moved to another room of our choice, she was wonderful, very friendly and helpful, when we got to our new room we needed a single bed putting in and Halem our housekeeper had aranged this and within 10mins a bed was there and made up for us, Halem is very hard working and very friendly, our room was very spacious and always kept very clean. The mini refridgerator was stocked up daily with bottles of water and towels were always clean and fresh.
The security staff and gardeners we also very friendly, always smiled and said hello as so did the cleaning staff, they worked hard and kept the hotel spotless.
We decided not to do any of the main trips to Petra or Cairo but we did go on the Quad Bikes in the Cannons. We booked this trip with the rep Craig who was very helpful and friendly. We had a great time on the Quad bikes and the staff who ran the organisation were great. If you like these kind of adventures then the Quad bikes are a must.
You have got to go to this hotel to see for yourself how wonderful it is.
Bert, your hotel is like a treasure chest with a lot of special gems inside and we look forward to seeing you all again soon. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable stay.

I just want to say that my partner and I had a lovely holiday at the Sofitel. Our first word on arrival was 'WOW.' The dome and water feature in the foyer was an impressive welcome, not to mention the friendly and very helpful staff (providing us with cold drinks). We had arrived much later than anticipated due to a delay at Gatwick, however, the restaurant at the hotel was kept open for us; we were guided through check-in very efficiently; our suitcases were taken to our room whilst we were directed to the restaurant. The whole area was lit up by soft lights creating a beautiful setting.
After eating, we found our room easily, choosing not to use the lift provided. The bed was huge, the room tastefully furnished and we were pleased to find that the air conditioning worked well. We were fortunate to have a sea facing room, providing us with a view of Saudi Arabia lit up at night across the water - superb!
Craig, our rep was great. He gave us a number of tips at the welcome meeting, including how to avoid the upset tummy. We took his advice and are happy to say that we both remained well during our stay.
We did not use the larger restaurant very often, preferring the quieter atmosphere of the overflow restaurant and although some holidaymakers insisted there was less choice, we were happy with the food provided. The staff in this restaurant were extremely professional and could not be faulted. It must be extremely hard to keep a smile on your face and a friendly word as you serve holidaymakers, whilst you fast all day in that heat!
On arrival at the pool area, we exchanged our card for a towel, and one of the entertainment staff ensured that we had two beds and umbrella, laying out our towels for us. He then continued to do this for us throughout our holiday. We assumed that this was to prevent the towel fest at 7am every morning. We did not give him a tip until near the end of our holiday.
Snorkelling - fantastic, but wait until around 3 or 4pm as the sea is much calmer.
We went on the shopping trip to Dahab. We were not happy to find that part of the trip (not advertised) was a stop at a papyrus factory for an hour, with a VERY hard sale! This left us precious little time in Dahab itself, which was a shame as it was a lovely little hive of activity and lots of bargains to be had. The restaurant and food as part of this trip were ok, however, be prepared for rude waiters asking for their tip!
All in all though, we both agreed, we would definitely go back - those of you who don't like Rick Astley, sit closer to the salt pool, we couldn't hear any music from there and the atmosphere was lovely.
