My husband and I are in our late 20s but quite well travelled and we can honestly say that this is the cleanest and friendliest hotel that we have ever stayed in. The staff just do not stop working and even the managers are not afraid to mingle and get stuck in.

Our room was a good size and the walk-in shower in the bathroom was lovely. We were in block 3 (garden rooms) but had a sea view. There was a good choice of food except for the lunchtime food served in the Lotus bar- wait until 1pm to dine in the restaurant where the choice and quality is much better. All salad is washed in bottled water and all ice cubes are from bottled water so no need to worry! We had a bit of 'pharoah's revenge' but it did not spoil our holiday at all and I think most people had a slight twinge of this.

The snorkelling is great and we even saw a lion fish but please do take aqua shoes and your own snorkel set. You can get aqua shoes there for about £5 from the hotel shop (it also did snorkels and masks but not sure of the price). If you turn left out of the hotel and go past the Hyatt, you can climb a very big hill (I like to say it was a mountain!!) which rewards you with a terrific view over the Taba Heights resort but you will need sensible footware- no flip flops!

We went to Petra and discovered that you could only use the port in Taba (to Jordan) if you were with a tour group. We booked the trip with First Choice before flying out and saved ourselves about £25 each. Jordan was great and our guide was very knowledgeable and amusing.

Our rep. from First Choice/Thomson, Toni, was brilliant and was resident at the hotel and we always felt there was a friendly face to assist if anything did arise. She escorted us from the airport and back again; it really was a first calss service all round!

Please do be warned that Taba airport is very tiny and very disorganised. We started queuing to get a stamp and before you knew it, there was a free for all! However, no need to rush as all coahses had to leave the aiport in convoy anway and so it didn't matter if you were last out the airport.

A wonderful hotel and we will certainly be looking to return next year.

Beautifully styled five star hotel. We were drawn to this hotel due to the excellent reports we found on TripAdvisor.

The room we stayed in was airy and spotless and the attention to detail was exceptional! The staff, from the management downwards, were friendly, accommodating and always willing to attend to our needs. The facilities were first class, especially the private beach and the access to the diving area - which was an outstanding experience!

The food was never repetitive and of a high quality, bearing in mind that they have to cater for so many people. The variety of themed nights and outside barbecues gave good choices of food to eat. The Asian Restaurant was of an exceptional standard and even though you have to pay extra, it was well worth the money!

The hotel's reasonably close proximity to the city of Petra in Jordan allowed us to visit the spectacular city and bring back memories that we will cherish for a lifetime.

This hotel has facilities for young and old alike, especially for those wishing to play golf, snorkle, sight seeing or just relax around the pool.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hopefully will visit again!!!

This hotel is absolutely beautiful, pure luxury. The rooms are spotless, cleaned to the highest standards with all the little touches that make a holiday. The outside areas are extremely well maintained and thoughtfully presented and most of all clean. The food is well cooked and presented and full of variety at all meals. The staff are attentive without being overly-friendly.

WE are seasoned travellers and have travelled literally every continent. We are not overly fussy, love luxury but are happy with the simple but clean.

I’m going to review the Egypt and the Egyptian people, Taba heights the Sofitel and Thompson in brief.

Egypt & the Egyptian people. It’s Hot (25th Oct-10th Nov = Ave 35oC, max 41oC, getting cooler at night however), lots of places to go but some trips are pricey (Petra/Pyramids etc). Climb Sinai it’s a must but it’s cold up there (-2oC on 5th Nov) so be prepared, we used Longwood Travel @ £50 each and that’s worth it. The Egyptians we met are respectful and very helpful. Treat them kindly and they are great, be rude (Like the Russians) and they will still serve but you won’t be first!! The Men will show interest in a Single Women but no more than any bloke in the UK, tell them and they leave!

Taba Heights. Relaxing, quiet and generally very pleasant indeed. If you want fun and Buzz go to Sharm or Ibiza! The Russians are a pain and culturally they have no manners, are rude but they keep themselves to themselves which is just fine!

Things to do: Diving is a must but it’s getting chilly in the water now so a full 5m wetsuit is needed. Lots to see with great visibility. I have dived all around the world and Waterworld dive centre is a professional outfit. All the instructors, Egyptian, French and English are proficient but Fun. Gary and Sarah particularly!

Quad biking is great with Canyon. 2 hours of fun, starts slow but gets better and better!!

Sofitel: This is a quality Hotel, don’t listen to any of the negative reviews, they are being Pillocks! The hotel is impressive, clean and very interesting. All the staff and Management are professional and just plain nice!

It’s not a UK 5 star as in the Ritz or Savoy but it is as I said a high quality hotel.

The food was excellent and on talking to fellow divers of the other 4 hotels in Taba Heights (Intercontinental, Hyatt, Marriott, 3 Corners) Sofitel seems to have the best Reputation for its grub.

The food was Hot, well prepared, different and yummy, it doesn’t get monotonous only possibly the self service does, but that’s the style off AI and you get that everywhere!

NOTE Travellers Diarrhoea is always a problem in Egypt and often Muslim country due to the manner in which they use the loo. It’s a virus passed on from person to person and rarely via food. Wikipedia explains it! It’s a 24 hour knock out but that’s it. Unclean hands after using the loo is the biggest factor in passing it on and I noticed that most holiday makers DONT do that so if you get it and you don’t wash your hands it your fault. DONT blame the Food. Get some antibacterial hand-gel.

Thompson. Toni the rep was pleasant and okay but lacking in knowledge other than details and prices for excursions.... typical Holiday rep/homebase/wickes type if you get my dript.

The Sofitel Taba Heights is a wonderful place for an enjoyable & relaxing holiday. I have just booked for my fouth visit next year. Each stay has been a very pleasing experience. I have travelled to many destinations and can thoroughly recommend this hotel for value, friendliness of its staff, cleanliness and comfort.
This is not the place for late night revellers, angry people who are not able to communicate politely or those that do not enjoy the continental environment.
Over previous years visits, there may have been some minor problems which have been resolved promptly and efficiently by the courteous staff/management.
Why do I return to the Sofitel?
Sunshine, comfortable rooms with large beds, walk-in showers, 5-6 hours flying time, a great Health Spa & Gym - where you will receive excellent friendly service (additional fees for services purchased). There is a salon for Hair styling, pedicure, manicure etc. I do not have to walk extreme yards from the pool to the beach to the restaurant after having a fantastic massage.
Snorkelling or walking in the sea to view the sea life is absolutely fantastic. A pair of water shoes is recommended to enter from the sandy beach to the water, as there is a brief level of small stone & small rocks and the shoes will assist under foot, but they are not mandatory as there are marked points at which to enter if not using the jetty. The walkways are primarily there to help preserve the marine life & coral environments.
There are various activities available throughout the day, swingball, ping-pong (table tennis), tennis courts, football, volley ball, water aerobics, belly dancing and more. The recreational and animation teams work very hard throughout the day/evenng for your entertainment & pleasure without a grumble. This is not Las Vegas! so do not expect international acts.
I have always found the food to be very good, varied and tasty. If everyone turns up to eat at the same time, expect a little delay, be patient. I am always willing to assist people to answer those questions you may have, where reviews do not fully meet your needs.

My wife and I have recently returned from the Sofitel for the 2nd time. We love this hotel and all, the staff. An e mail to Mohamed Hammady Front Office Manager and we were allocated the same room as last year. One of the first things we noticed was a new Executive chef which may a long way to placate those people who found the food somewhat lacking but we found no reason to complain. Problems can be sorted out by managers from any department very quickly. Our thanks to all the managers and staff too numerous to mention individually who made it a holiday to remember. The standard of cleanliness in all areas is second to none. This also includes the pools and beach. We enjoyed the relaxing feel of the hotel and the entertainment is low key, no pressure to join in. The health and fitness centre provides somewhere to chill out or work out and is well equipped. and in the evening the beautiful settiing of the hotel and lighting provides calm at the end of the day. Our only negative comments which were made to Bert Plas and his management team was the standard of dress. We do not think flip flops and shorts are acceptable dress for the evening meal in a 5 star hotel.
