Once again fantastic time! This time on All-Inclusive package which suited us very well. Only detrimental comment regarding this was the wine wasn't up to scratch, whatever your taste. However saying that the white wine worked ok as a spritzer with either soda or lemonade. I celebrated a landmark birthday whilst there & I was amazed at how much fuss was made of me on my special day. All the staff seemed to be aware of the fact & I couldn't believe that for such a large hotel it felt just like a family affair. Thank you. The food - I notice that a previous comment concerned the quality, considering the price paid it was excellent. If gourmet dining is required then gourmet dining prices would need to be paid! To us, 6 persons, it was fine & varied & our tummies were also fine. We were warned that a 5* hotel in Egypt was more the equivalent of a 3* in the UK so were not at all disappointed with the Marriott Taba as it pleasantly exceeded our expectations in a very good way. The staff are the jewel in the crown at this hotel, Eman & Youssef - the animation team are outstanding & truly make this holiday a great deal of fun, it wouldn't be the same without them taking the aqua-aerobics classes. All in all an excellent holiday for just relaxing & chilling out from the stresses of everyday life. Once again we hope to return.

If Luxor is the "jewel of the Nile" then Taba Heights is the "crown jewels of the Red Sea".
As your coach transfer begins from the airport, you are driven through breath taking views across the desert, through red dusty mountains, along a purpose built winding road. Eventually in the distance you see the twinkling lights.....that is Taba Heights. 4 hotels along the beautiful coastline of the Red Sea.

Its evening when we arrive and are met with cold juices and cold flannels, the lobby is huge and all cream and light marble, check in is quick and before long you are in your beautiful, clean, large air conditioned room. I had a pool view room, with a lovely terrace and only a few steps to the large pool. The terrace was two chairs and a table....with sunlight all day long.
The room was beautifully furnished, huge bed, lots of pillows, satellite television, tea, coffee etc, bottled water. There was plenty of wardrobe space with hangers, shelving and drawers. The bathroom had plenty of crisp white towels, shampoo, shower gels, body lotions, tissues and flowers.
The pool as large, clean and well kept, the hotels gardens were immaculate, the pathways always clear and very well lit at night.
The Regatta Bar is outside of the main restaurant and had a large outdoor seating area, as well as the covered area inside.
The Main restaurant served a large selection of food, always beautifully presented and always hot and fresh. Breakfast was a choice of fresh breads, cereals, pancakes, eggs, meats, pastries etc. Each night was themed and these ranged from Egyptian, Chiness, Mexican, etc. There is also the Tuscanny, El Fuego etc and you get a small credit towards dining at these.
The pool area had a pool bar called the Grotto and it was here you could enjoy a cool drink or nsack on the long hot days, the beach area also had a lovely beach bar that again served long cold refreshing drinks.

I have stayed at many of the worlds "top" hotels - Burj Al Arab, Anantaras, Royal Mirage etc and would rate this beautiful hotel among those "top" hotels. This hotel was immaculate, with amazing staff, who couldnt do enough for you. They wanted you to have a lovely holiday. Egyptian people are some of the most genuine and beautiful people in the world. They love to see you smile, they love to talk to you, they are polite, helpful and caring. The people that work at this hotel made my holiday...Shabaan my house keeper-thank you for the beautful flowers, Khalid at the Beach Bar-you make a mean cocktail, Emran the animation lady-lets dance! Ahmed, Mohammed, Bob....the list is endless. Mokhtar the restaurant manger- I spent many a night talking with you, you made me laugh..thank you for spending time showing me the resort.
To sum up my holiday:
My love affair with Egypt continues, this amazing country is a country of natural beauty and steeped with history. The people of this country are truely amazing, honest, loyal and friendly. The Egyptian people have had there fair share of hard times but they NEVER let it bring them down. They work long hours, and its during this time that they made my holiday.
Marriott Hotel, please keep up the good work, and I promise very soon I will return to you "The Crown Jewel of the Red Sea"

Room Tip: Pool view room...block 200

We have just arrived back from Tabab Heights, and hope the following comments will make things clearer for those that have not been before. The hotel staff were lovely, helpful and for the most part nothing was to much trouble, we had a large room with a sea and pool views. Tabab is a purpose built comples of 6 hotels along the coast, then built on the hillside a few restuarants and shops. A visit to the salt cave was not worth the money, it is actually a purpose built room in the town with a small shop attached, calming and cool, but you just sit in it and relax. In fact very little to do in Tabab but relax, unless you want to go on very long day trips, some starting at 12.30am and not returning until the following evening. So you need to check timings before committing to day trips.

The hotel boasts an Italian resturant and Mexican, the Mexican is actually on the hillside outside the hotel. We tried the Italian and I can say it was the worst Italian meal I had ever eaten, you also have to pay for this as it is not part of your all inclusive. The buffet: well you will not starve, but neither will you have a fine dining experience, mostly the food was served tepid and at times cold, then hot food placed on top of it, we did not eat the salads and were fine, others were poorly, but in part I think this is because some people tend to touch the food and put it back, and the food at times was not cooked properly or hot enough. You get the usual pasta area, something cooked on the hot plates, eggs etc, some sort of meat or chicken at each meal and if your lucky some fish. To be honest we were a little disappointed with the food, as we have stayed all inclusive before had had a much widier choice of food. After breakfast you have to wait until 11am for the Grotto bar to open before you can get another drink, there were a couple water fountains around but they were very dirty, so if you are an early riser like us we were waiting around from 8am until 11am to get a drink. The Grotto, nick named the grotty is a purpose built cave bar, over the poor area. They do not do lunch unless you want to pay for it, usually put pasteries on the bar around 11am when the buffet shuts, and then some type of snack around 4pm. Considering the heat, there was never any iceream on offer in the buffet, you could purchase some from reception or the Grotto area though. There is one small slide to go down in the pool area, and if you walk up the stairs by the side of the grotto, there is a roof terrace area.

No problems with sunbeds or towels, as the hotel was half empty, along with the rest of the hotels in the area.

The hotel put a welcome pack of tea and coffee in your room, if you want it replaced as you only get one sachet of each you have to pay for this, neither do they give you extra bottles of water, apart from a bottle in your room being replaced, you have to buy these usually sold outside the breakfast area each morning along with fresh juice.

There is a shuttle open sided shuttle bus that will take you to the other hotels or up the hillside to the shops. You can book to eat your buffet all inclusive at one of the other hotels at reception, but you have to do so the day before, this is part of your package, if you want a resturant you have to book it the day before. Check the bus you are getting on is going in the direction you want to go. We ate at the Sofitel Fusion resturant twice, which was lovely, but you have to pay for this, but we also tried the buffet one evening, just makes a change.

There is a bar next to the Marriott buffet, in fact the only place to drink in the evenings, the terrace is large plenty of seating or you could sit inside with the a/c, not much in the way of entertainment, one night a belly dancer but most nights just music, so can get a little boring.

I think the hotel has only recently gone over to all inclusive, so some people were on half board which must make it confusing for the staff, and you have to sign for your drinks all the time, which is annoying. The drinks were fine if you keep it plain and simple, the cocktails really give a miss. We went up the hillside one evening and had cocktails on the terrace which actually were good, at the Mexican, watched the sun go down.

It was a relaxing week, good weather, helpful staff, just let down by the all inclusive which lacked a lot of the things that make it that little bit special, The hotel really has captive clients, so could do with some other things of interest and wideir choices throughout in all areas. The beach and sea lovely and a nice walk along the back of the hotel in the early mornings was good. It is just the extra touches that make a hotel a 5 star, and as food is a large part of a holiday, for me the choices were not good, nor the variety of places to eat. Usually you will get an evening meal on the beach or bar-b-q, and a choice of places to drink, you could get a drink in the lobby bar, but yet again you would have had to pay for this.

On leaving, the airport as you note is very small, only 2 check in desks open, we waited over an hour to check in, and I am sure some people a lot longer. We paid for 2 extra leg room seats £40 but had we wanted 3 it was £80!!!!, we made the air stewardess aware of this and she was going to take it further, we actually managed to get one on the flight for £25. When we went through passport control your hand luggage is scanned again, my daughter was made to take out her can and drink it in front of the staff, some people were made to drink 2 litres of water, ohers just told to throw them in the bin, so perhaps best just to ditch it before going through. One large area the usuall wall of shelves selling toot, and a small cafe. We were told on the coach as long as you have your drinks in your hand luggage it was fine, but obviously not.

Room Tip: Block 3 was pretty central.

We booked the Marriott in Taba Heights in April to visit 10th-24th Sep. Booked with Peltours/Longwood. Looked after us well on trip. Prior to going we saw a few reviews which did concern us however this was totally unfounded. They had apparently had some problems but they brought in a new chef in August and comments from regulars was it was the best it had ever been.

Details
Money - if you want egyptian pounds you're better off bringing £'s with you. They want £s so got a rate around 9.8 per £ when about 8.8 to 9 at home. There's a good safe in the room.
Flight - flew with Monarch. Wouldn't generally be our choice - crew were fine on the plane and looked after us but usual leg-room was dreadful. How more people don't get DVT from their flights I don't know.
Taba Airport. Basically a few planes a day. Ex Israeli airforce base so not a lot there. There is cafe/shops when going home though although beware on way home if at cafe as strangely when paying in egyptian pounds it was exactly the note we had. Realised when leaving counter it was around 70 not 100 but too late then. You don't need a visa for Taba Heights - you do on long trips though (see Trips below).
Temperature. We arrived on 10 Sep. Temperature was 38 C and remained around 35-40 to end of stay on 24th. Breeze started on second week which was pleasant although had to then be careful not to burn.
To hotel and at hotel - security of essence. There were no situations when we were there and felt very safe. I know a concern with TV (US anti-muslem film was released when we were there) ! Went to Cairo but need to bear in mind probably 5-10,000 in riots of population of 17m ! Can't emphasise how safe we felt. They have security, they check under vehicles and you have to go through scanners into hotel. but the overall feeling was there was no security threat but they simply wanted to make you feel safe.
Resort - comprises of 5 hotels along a strip of beach. All good quality as far as we were told. If you're looking for clubs and bars in abundance then you're in the wrong place as the 5 hotels is it for the resort apart from uptown which has restaurants and shops (if you want alcohol for your room, there's a small off-licence !). If you want to be pampered and relaxed, though, this is the place...!! Geographically you are on Red Sea opposite Jordan and Saudi Arabia with Israel about 7 miles north.
Hotel - really good and totally recommend it . We weren't sure at first about boulders around pool but soon loved it and felt it made it more individual. Great layout with excellent reception, courtyard towards pool. Rooms laid out in a crescent so a lot get sea views apart from those at rear. They have lovely well kept gardens and really nice for a stroll at night. Well illuminated.
Room - very good and kept very clean by Alaa (thanks). We had block 900 which was nice and quiet and handy for restaurant, pool and beach. Two double beds, hairdryer, safe, TV with 60 or so channels including English films, balcony, shower/bath (although small bath - but we didn't use. Shower much better in this heat !), room bar but need to ask for it to be filled if you want. It says iron and board available. It is but not in your room - you ring reception and order it. Got there in 10 mins and then they collect outside of the room.
Staff - the real making of the holiday. They are great. Everyone says hello and some come and chat about where you're from and about Egypt. Really lovely. Gardeners even waved at us when we were on the balcony - made us feel really welcome. Can't thank them all individually as can't remember all their names but Mohameds on coffee and pool bar, Kalid at pool, Osama in Regatta bar (excellent), Mary, Shaaban and Bahaa in restaurant, both girls on reception, the girl that did Animation and the egg station cook. Thanks so much to all though for looking after us.
All-inclusive. We showed our room cards. After a while they knew you and didn't need to show. Covered breakfast, lunch and evening meals, local drinks, 6 cocktails, 5 mocktails and soft drinks.
Restaurant - best all inclusive we've been to. There is a theme every night with Egyptian, Mexican, Indian, Mediterranean, International, Middle eastern and Chinese although if not keen on any of these there was always other food e.g. beef joint on Mexican night. Plenty of selection of foods and a delight if you like cakes and desserts !! Even though this carried on into second week the menu was different so not same as first week. Well laid out with large candelabras, tables set at angles to make less canteen like and good lighting at night. There are 2 other restaurants, Tuscany upstairs above restaurant and a Mexican in uptown but you pay for these although you get 30 E£ cards off meals (about £3) per visit. Restaurant open 0630-1000, 1300-1500 and 1800 or 1830-2200. Food available at other times from Grotto bar and beach bar. There's a standard snack food at Grotto bar but we did see a menu at e.g. the beach bar as well.
Pool - meanders down from hotel to beach. Split in 2 with heated at beach end then split and not heated at top part. We actually preferred the non-heated. Can access grotto bar from there, sitting in pool, and go under rocks at one place to get a bit of cool - and a free neck massage from the water dropping down !! You get cards for the towel which you swap at the pool each day. Plenty of spare beds and generally 1 large umbrella for 2 beds. There was only about 50% occupancy though so not sure how it would be with high occupancy.
Bars - 3 bars there. Beach and Grotto opened 1000-1800 then Regatta bar from 1800-2300 for all inclusive (midnight if want to buy more). Grotto bar and beach bars have covered areas to get you out of sun.
Beach - get free use of beds/umbrella. Very safe - you can walk out 200 metres or more and only be thigh deep and then in certain spots you become ankle deep again. Seemed one of safest along this strip.
Snorkelling - we found a good spot from hotel. Need to go out about 300 metres slightly to right of beach bar and go the far side of the reef. Saw parrot fish, Napolean fish, turtle and a lion fish. The best snorkelling is from the Hyatt jetty (15 mins walk!) though as straight into deep water reefs. Best selection of fish (saw a large ray). You get charged if use the Hyatt beds but we left our things at end of jetty where we went in.
Free bus - This runs about every 15 mins but get the 10 past, 20 to service for quickly up to uptown or Waterworld otherwise you go around the other hotels. There's a timetable on wall in reception and at bus stops. It's called a Taf Taf.
Spa/Gym. Good gym with 3 cycles, 3 treadmills and 2 steppers as well as quite a few weight machines. We used regularly - to try to combat the all-inclusive ! Spa - you get free jacuzzi and I think a few other things. Probably best to book any treatment when you're at pool as you get discount on standard prices and those selling work on commission only which is tough so it helps them.
Trips - as all package tours there were plenty of trips to choose from. Long day trips were to Cairo (new flight trip started our first week there), Petra and Jerusalem. Other smaller trip as well. We went on Cairo trip and all day snorkelling boat trip. Both great. If you want to go on long trips though you need a visa - something about Taba being on an Asian rather than African plate, I was told. This does get included in the trip price though and they arrange so you don't need a visa at the airport.
Cairo - have to bear in mind it's a very long day. Plane goes from Sharm el Sheik which is 3 hours away so we left at 0215 (!) and got back at 0045 the next day. You really have to want to do this but we found it brilliant but tiring. We got 0630 plane but this does give you a good day in Cairo - and you need it. We visited Giza with Pyramids and Sphynx (incredible) and visit to museum with Tutankhamen death mask, tombs, jewellery etc. Not to be missed. We also had obligiatory trips to perfume shop and papyrus/souvenirs as well as good lunch provided. Need water though as very hot.
Boat snorkelling trip. Great day out. Good cover so not to get burnt but also can sunbathe as well. Have had some where no cover and you burn. Get lunch and non alcoholic drinks and taken to Coral Bay which is a good safe snorkelling spot. also stopped off on way back at another great site.
Waterworld. As part of resort there's Waterworld which free bus goes to. We did doughnuts and parascending which was great fun. Reasonable prices too. Does a lot of water sports and runs diving from here. There are also small Waterworld sites at each hotel where you can hire masks, snorkels and flippers for around £6 a day (£4 if no flippers).

Hope all that helps – overall we totally recommend the Marriot and Taba Heights

Room Tip: We were in block 900 which was to right of hotel looking at sea. Quiet but close to everything apart...

Ok Ok Ok its a five star hotel but four star is probably nearer the mark. The position is excellent , the staff are helpful and the food is pretty good with lots of variety. We went in the last week of August and it was a superb time to go. Hot every day ( 39-40) but hey, your next to a stunning pool layout and 100m from the sea. Hotel was 50 % capacity so plenty of sunbeds etc. 50m into the sea was beautiful fishes around the reef.

Apart from Quad bikes , snorkelling , parasailing etc there is not much to do. Perfect !!

If it wasnt for work commitments, i would have paid for another week

. I will definately return to taba and the Marriott

Room Tip: Block 2 was near beach and pool and restaurant

Readers of my earlier reviews will know that my partner and I have been regular visitors to the Marriott over the past eight years and have seen a few ups and downs. Our last visit was in March when we felt the catering in the main Al Andalus restaurant had dropped below acceptable standards, and whilst we have learned to enjoy fine meals in alternative restaurants in the small "Up Town" area of Taba Heights, (namely, The Flying Carpet, El Fuego & the excellant Birds Nest), it must have been dissappointing for many of the guests.

Imagine our delight when we arrived for our two week stay to find that the Al Andalus had gone through an almost magical transformation, not with the building, but with the quality and presentation of all aspects of their many and varied dishes. The addition of mouth watering beautifuly presented hors d'oeuvres, new recessed bain maries and a general freshness to all presentations has made an enormous difference. We should also like to say that the improvement was consistant throughout our stay.

We should like to congratulate the General Manager, Brian Nourollahi, the new Executive Chef and the whole team for a truly inspired revival of the Marriott's fortunes and to say that we look forward to visiting again very soon.

Room Tip: For a quieter room ask for availability in the 900 block which is close to both restaurant and beach...
