We stayed at the Marriott in Taba the second last week of March, and chose it because, simply, it was cheap and we needed good weather. We wanted to chill out, read, sunbathe and snorkel and we definitely got that. We also really like to eat and drink nice wine _ but we weren't expecting the standard at the Taba to be gourmet, and that was a good thing.
We had a standard double room, which was completely adequate. It was clean, in pretty good repair (the sofa was getting a bit shabby, but I'm splitting hairs) and had everything we needed. I would recommend not leaving anything really important in the in-room safe, as we had problems with ours, and someone just popped down with a screwdriver and opened it. Stick your stuff in a safety deposit box at reception instead.
We ate in the Andalus restaurant every evening, and it was totally fine. I stuck to salads, hummus, chicken and the like; my partner tried most of the dishes. They were just fine. Breakfast is great _ toast and eggs, how can you go wrong? _ and while it would have been nice to have had coffee in the room, I lived without it.
We'd chosen the half-board option, which meant that we needed to pay for our drinks. We stuck to beer for the week, which was unlike us, but the Sakara was very refreshing and it kept our costs down. (Also, as a hint, it's 2 for 1 on drinks at various bars all over the resort at different times; check out the little sign on your table.) So it wasn't that expensive in the end, but we brought a few bottles of wine from home, along with a bunch of snacks (pretzels, nuts, etc) to keep in the room. We might be inclined to go somewhere all-inclusive next time, just so we don't have to think about it. Someone else on the board mentioned the option of having water delivered to your room _ do it. It's a good deal (though I still have one bottle in my fridge at home. Ridiculous!)
There's not much to do at the resort itself, so I could see kids getting bored pretty easily, but we were mainly interested in getting a nice sunbed and that was no problem. My partner windsurfed for two days with the guys at Waterworld and he loved it; we also did a snorkelling trip with them that was fine.
All in all, a very relaxing holiday, but I wouldn't say we were in the lap of luxury ...
