“Fantastic location”
Reviewed 4 January 2009

My wife and I stayed for one week - just after Christmas 2008 and over New Year 2009.

The hotel is in a superb location on the Red Sea and the large grounds are so impressive and well maintained. They run down to quite a long sand beach. We had a spacious and excellent bedroom. Weather overall was good, able to enjoy good spells of sunshine, eating outside etc, but being January it was dark by late afternoon. My wife suffered with mosquito bites during the stay and this was quite a problem.

The New Year party was outstanding and a credit to Movenpick in every respect.

Food was disappointing overall and seemed to fall short of high ratings given by other Tripadvisor visitors. Not sure why. We ate mostly in the small Sea Shells restaurant, which appears to have been a fish restaurant, but during our stay seemed to be offering the substantially the same food as the main restaurant.

Not a huge amount to do - glass bottomed boat from the beach a must - to see the amazing fish and coral. Scuba diving etc. Some trips like the Petra. Evening entertainment was poor. Good holiday for relaxing and sitting by the pool or on the beach.

Hotel staff really friendly and helpful - in many instances exceptionally so.

Left with a sense of an amazing and memorable location - the grounds, the Red Sea, the mountains. Movenpick need to review the food arrangements, which were some way below what you expect in a high rated hotel. Taba Airport on the way home is dire, e.g. no toilet tissues.

So mixed thoughts about the experience; glad we went - a good break in a world class location, but not all aspects up the standards of other similarly rated hotels.

We have stayed at many Moevenpick Hotels throughout Egypt and Europe but this one didn't make the cut with us.

The Moevenpick is located right next to the Hilton Hotel and therefore very close to the Israelian Border (couple of hundred metres.) During our stay flares were being fired!!!

We booked deluxe rooms and upon arrival were allocated standard rooms (tiny and bland) upon questioning this we were told that children below the age of 12 could not be accomodated in deluxe rooms as these are located on the upper floors. We then asked to be moved and were given a much superior bungalow room (there initially would have been a charge for it). The bungalow was interconnecting and very nice indeed. Our bungalow was in B block and about 50 m away from the beach. Each bungalow has a little grass area in front of the patio. The bungalows also have their own pool area with wooden sun loungers and juice bar. The bungalows are about 200 m away from the main hotel and are by far superior to the other rooms. The bathroom was of adequate size but the bathtub was a little small. The rooms were kept very clean throughout our stay.

The swimming pools are not heated at this time of year and were freezing.

We were told by our tour rep that Brits were supposed to eat at the Seashell Restaurant as there had been problems previously between the Brits and other nationalities! We went there once- it was tacky, stank and was very old fashioned. It did have a very nice beach view though.

The main restaurant was very nice and the service good. The choice of food was vast and the presentation very nice. However food was on the bland side. The choice was also repetitive. In week 2 we got the same food again as week 1.

The beach snack bar was terrible. Teas and coffees were offered in plastic cups. Upon querying this several times proper cups with saucers were produced but others still got plastic cups.
In our party 3 out of 5 got ill with stomach upsets. This is were the doctor came in. He was fab visited us on a daily basis and medicine was available through him.

The hotel has lots of animation staff. We did not use them at all.
The animation team is also responsible for the evening entertainment. MMmh.

We never used the indoor swimming pool as it did not have sunloungers but tacky plastic tables and chairs.

The beach is small and fenced off on either end. There is a small house reef in front of the Hilton Hotel.
The diving company on site provided us with excellent service.

I think the general problem with the hotel is the "all-inclusive "attitude of some holiday makers.

I need to add that the management team of the resort was very responsive to our concerns and changes were being made during our stay.

I believe that my main issue with the hotel was that I had been to the Hyatt at Taba Heights on 4 occassions and just had much higher expectations of the Moevenpick. Had it not been for other family members arriving from Europe during our stay I would have moved hotel.

This was by far one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in.

The hotel was immaculately clean, staff overly helpful, friendly and polite and food was excellent - an excellent range of choice, fresh and a variety of places to dine within the complex. We were all-inclusive, however if we wanted fresh sea food or something which was not on the buffet, we would have to pay a small amount extra for it (about £5 per head), this was also the case for 'branded' drinks (smirnoff, malibu etc) which were not included but again was not a huge amount extra.

For December we were pleasantly surprised by the weather. While there was a slight breeze, the temperature was a steady 26-30 degrees (C).

There was evening entertainment however in our opinion was pretty poor and so we had to make own - the Hilton next door is open to Movenpick guests and we went there a few nights for a change of scene - perhaps not the best holiday option if you have kids who require entertainment!

The swimming pools are freezing cold (coldest I've ever experienced!) and it is the only holiday I have ever been on where I could count on one hand the amount of people I saw swimming!! The sea was warm and crystal clear though!

Overall, this hotel was fantastic value for money. I have re-booked to go at the same time next year. For a quiet get away where all your needs are met, this is an ideal choice!

stayed at movenpick taba last week in nov and first week in dec 08 .This was our 10th trip to Egypt and have enjoyed every one of them from 4 nile cruises to trips to all the sites there is to see.But this time will be our last .The hotel was in alovely setting it was very clean and staff very helpful .But there it went down hill we were 1/2 board and were not informed it was an all inclusive hotel, there were no arrangments for 1/2 board when we got there , and what we did get was like dog food .So we payed extra for al.a.carte which was an improvment .What made it altogether worse was the rudeness and bad manners of the Russians ,they seem to think they were the only people who mattered ,I felt really sorry for the local Egypt staff, who these people went out of there way to make them feel inferior,I was having breakfast one morning and one of these said Russians tryed to remove my table whilst i was eating because he was wanting to move it near to his friends for his own use .Also i was pushed out of the way in one of the hotel shops by a Russian who shouted at me i have money move.I went to see the hotel managment who seemed unable to do anything or maybe to afraid. So for both of us this will be or last time in egypt much to our disappointment

We stayed at the Movenpick resort for a week with our 3-year-old daughter and we all had a wonderful time. We were upgraded free of charge to a beautiful bungalow looking out on the Red Sea, it was so big it felt like home from home, with a living room area, a large bathroom, a patio and a garden - our daughter referred to it the whole time as 'our other house'!

The staff at Movenpick were so incredibly friendly and this seemed to rub off on the guests, it was easy to fall into conversations with people on the way to the pool or in the restaurant. Most of the time we ate at the Seashells where one waiter in particular, called Emad, was very entertaining and pleasant, showering our daughter with attention and giving her free drinks and a colouring pad and pencils to play with. Even though the food wasn't hugely exciting the resort made up for this in presentation and facilities. It's spaciousness and view of the Sanai mountains was breath-taking and there was always lots to do. We also took an excursion to Cairo and saw the Pyramids and Sphinx and had lunch on the Nile - an exhausting yet unforgettable and special day.

I would recommend this resort to everyone I know and will definitely come back like a shot, if not here then to another Movenpick elsewhere in the world.

What a perfect holiday! We could have asked for nothing better. The service, the hotel, the friendliness of the staff ... I could go on endlessly. It was simply perfect.

For the main of the holiday we ate our meals at the Sea Shells Restaurant with an amazing view of the gardens, palm trees, the sea, the mountains, Jordan in the background! The service was second to none, every wish already taken care of before we'd even thought of it! Whatever the guys are on, they should get a salary rise!

From entering the hotel from the airport, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Not only did they efficiently run the hotel, but gave time to the guests and made everyone feel important and welcome.

The rooms were very clean, All inclusive was very good, the lobby was set out in such a way that it was like having a variety of living rooms in the one area!

Most everyone we spoke to said they would return without a shadow of a doubt. I just wish we could have stayed longer.

Although everything is pretty much contained in the complex, the amount of different excursions available allowed even the most seasoned of travellers an experience they would enjoy and look forward to, from shopping to visiting Petra - the 2nd wonder of the world!

All in all, I would heartily recommend this hotel and will be returning!

We'd been to Taba the year before, staying all inclusive at the Radisson, but took this on a half board basis as we intended doing some sightseeing and diving.

The hotel is good, well laid out and maintained and the room was spacious and clean, with a view over towards the sea. Breakfast was good - hot and cold buffet catering for European and Middle Eastern tastes. Evening meals were fine, although the menus were a little repetetive, but we didn't mind this too much.

We were diving with Aquasport, who are based at the Hilton next door. Could access this by walking across the beach and through the security gate without any real problems. The Nelson pub does a lovely lunch if you want somewhere else to eat at a reasonable price.

In the evenings, the arabic restaurant also runs a shisha cafe so you can unwind with a smoke and drink tea (or beer if you prefer) and talk to the friendly mananger there. If you're there as a family, there is a kids club type affair to keep the youngest amused. As usual, the Egyptians are great with small children and the families we saw seemed to be having a great time.

This is a great location for sightseeing as you can visit Petra (Jordan) or cross the border into Israel to visit Eilat or travel up to Jerusalem - which we did this time and wished we'd had a longer stay there.

This is a hotel that's well worth staying in and we'd be more than happy to go back again...and again.
