“Fantastic week away 31.12.2012”
Reviewed 17 January 2013

This was our first experience of eygpt and it didn't disappoint. The hotel is lovely and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us. A special tank you to the towel man who set us up in the sun everyday whether we were round the pool or beach. We were slightly concerned about some of the reviews on the buffet but needn't have worried the food was always hit and there was plenty to choose from. The biggest problem was holidaymakers. Not closing lids after serving themselves. There were gas burners under all f the dishes and staff on hand topping up constantly. The choices of breads and dishes were fantastic. The rooms were fine yes the showers are a bit small but the cubicle is huge and water always hot. The down was that the a la carte restaurants were expensive so hardly used it would if th hotel adopted the one visit per week as part of the all inclusive. We will definently be back.

We have stayed at this hotel many times. Several months ago there were a few negative comments on Trip Advisor which concerned us a little.

However, following our stay in December at the Intercontinental, it gives us enormous pleasure to confirm that the exceptional standards have recovered, and levels of service mirror those expected of an IHG hotel.

The Christmas Eve gala dinner was spectacular, and all the Management and Staff should be applauded for their endeavours.

It appears there are several hotels in the Taba area that are experiencing difficulties associated with the Egyptian political turmoil and the financial uncertainty being experience in Europe. The Intercontinental, is rising above these challenges.

British holiday makers should not be concerned because Taba is safer than most of our UK cities at night.

The initiatives that the General Manager has introduced since his arrival, are now producing positive results.

Levels of occupancy have increased, also thanks to the GM. The levels of occupancy at other Taba hotels seem to be on the decrease.

We love all the Staff at The Intercontinental in Taba. It's our second home. We both look forward to returning on the 26th February 2013 for three weeks.

We will be flying from Birmingham to Sharm, and using a taxi from the Intercontinental for our transfer to Taba Heights. That works out cheaper than flying with Thomson, from Manchester, or Gatwick.

If you would like further information, please feel free to contact me via Trip Advisor.

We hope to see you at this hotel. You will not be disappointed.

Regards

Romey & Geoff Mansfield

My wife and I stayed here for a week from 27th November to 4th December. We travelled with Thomson and on arrival at the hotel after a 45min coach drive we were asked to form into two queues to check in (surnames A to M & N to Z). This took approx 30mins to get to the desk however we were offered a soft drink whist waiting.
After checking in we were given directions on how to find our room and told that are luggage would be delivered to our room after we had attached room number tags to them (the entire luggage from the coach had been left on the outside of the lobby).
We eventually found our sea-view room and were both delighted with it, it was very spacious had ample wardrobe space with a larger than average bathroom (no bath) and a huge shower. Our balcony was a good size with two comfortable armchairs and a table and a great view across the Gulf of Aqaba to both Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Our luggage arrived after about 30mins and we then went down to the main restaurant for dinner. We waited at the entrance obeying the signage but after 5mins of waiting for a member of staff we decided to walk in and find our own table. The restaurant was very disappointing, the chairs were very tired looking and stained and too low for the tables, waiter service was non-existent apart from one glass of wine served half way through our bowel of soup, the buffet was very poor with all hot food offered being kept warm in Bain Marie’s (on subsequent visits the only food that was cooked in front of you was omelettes at breakfast and pasta in the evening.
My wife and I are well travelled and this is not what we expected of a 5* or 5T hotel.
The following morning we found there was an exterior to the restaurant that was far more pleasant than the interior with two very hard working waiters who responded well after receiving a small tip 10 or 20 EGP (£1 or £2) on each visit.
The pool area and grounds are well kept and quite clean and there were plenty of sun loungers however we did not receive any drinks service poolside during our stay, we had to walk down to the pool bar to get drinks. At the lobby bar again there was no waiter service at the tables, we had to go to the bar and order and a waiter would then bring the drinks to the table but no further drinks were offered. The only occasion a waiter came to our table to get a drinks order was in the entertainment area on our second night, we tipped him 20EGP and he came back 3 times over the next hour to check we were OK for drinks.
There is a free bus service running between the 5 hotels in Taba Heights but if you use the ‘Dine Around’ option to try out the other Hotels do check what time the last bus is as they do not adhere to their published time table (approx every 30mins up to midnight). We were left stranded for over an hour outside the Marriott from 9.50pm to 11.15pm. Security kept saying it would arrive in 10mins but in the end we went back to reception and they called the bus station to order the bus. When the bus arrived the driver argued with us saying the last bus was 10pm and we apparently refused to get on it, he continued arguing with us all the way back to the Intercontinental and then kept us waiting at the gate while he shouted his story to the security guard.
We tried the A La Carte restaurants in each hotel and found the food to be very mediocre in all and the service standards of the waiting staff poor. For example, we booked a table in L’Asiatic at the Sofitel for 8pm, we were one of three couples dining that evening and there were three staff present in the restaurant, one security, one food waiter and one wine waiter. After ordering our food and choosing a bottle of wine, the wine waiter presented the bottle, offered a tasting and poured a small glass for each of us then placed the bottle in a cooler behind my wife. He did not offer to pour any more wine for the duration of our meal and I had to stand up and get the wine as it was out of reach and pour the wine for both of us. The wine waiter seemed to be too busy checking his stock and the food waiter started breaking down the restaurant during our main course.
In our experience this was far removed from 5* service and we will not be returning to Taba Heights.

Dear Havana,

thank you for your detailed review. While we can not be satisfied with your overall assessment of the destination, we are glad you had a pleasurable check in experience and enjoyed your room and our pools & recreational facilities. We will be reviewing and discussing your comments in terms of consistent service delivery as we usually do provide table & sun-lounger service.
Our live cooking in evenings includes Pasta, Pizza, Shwarma, Carvery for Roastbeef and Rack of Lamb as well as Tandoori Chicken. Always alternating and suiting the buffet scheme. As you mention that you have also tried other Restaurants at night you might have missed this variety just as you had missed our big sun terrace with 120 seats for the BayView Restaurant on your first night after a long day of travel.

We have shared your feedback on the TafTaf shuttle service as this is provided by TABA HEIGHTS COMMUNITY services. We are keen to provide the service we are publishing and being promised. Your description is certainly not the way.

Your unfavorable description and disappointment of the SOFITEL restaurant has also been passed on to our colleagues there as we have absolutely no influence on their delivery of guest service and experiences.

With best regards from the InterContinental Taba Heights Resort Team

Traveled to taba heights ICH on 11th dec and returned 25th december 2012 with first choice holidays from Manchester. The flights were on time and the journey was pleasant.

We arrived @ICH and were welcomed by what we call our friends, all the hotel staff and managers that were available were there to greet us and promised to make our stay the best ever... They did not disappoint !!! We had welcome drinks and our check-in was effortless. Chris GM, chefs, bar staff, animation staff and reception staff looked genuinely pleased to welcome us to their hotel.

We traveled with other repeat guest whom we have become great friends with after meeting a few years ago at ICH, we have had numerous holidays there meeting up together, and hopefully will continue to do so. We also made lots of new friends too and hope to meet up with them again sometime in the future.

The rooms are well equipped with everything you need, bearing in mind most people take most of the things you need for your vacation, if there is something you need, just ask at reception and they will get it for you, or you can get it from the hotel shop.
The beds are really comfy and have never failed to get a good nights sleep... Yet,!!!!

The restaurant is well laid out and the choice of food is fantastic, there is something for everyone, but if you find on the odd occasion there is nothing for you, just ask the chef, if he can do it, he will...

THE WEATHER.... (Well really that's what most of us come for) WAS FANTASTIC... HIGH 20's/30's EVERY DAY... IN DECEMBER. When it's freezing at home. The sun has set behind the mountains by about 4.15pm but its still nice to sit at the pool bar and have a drink.
The evenings were pleasant too, but need something to cover your shoulders. But again, not bad for December.

Then we remembered it was nearly CHRISTMAS...!!!! OMG...
We've never had such a stress-free in our life, no last minute rush for presents, no fighting in the supermarket for the turkey, no big Christmas Day lunch to prepare...

Instead the waiter brought us drinks & cocktails on the beach and all our food was prepared for us... We also had CHRISTMAS carol singing in the early evening leading upto Christmas, and was lovely to head some of the children joining in too, also to hear some of the carols sung in different languages, it was a real ( pull everyone together) moment. They served cookies shortbreads and mulled wine. A really nice touch. The hotel reception/front area was all decorated with gingerbread houses and pyramids. It just reminded you where you were but still very festive.

The Christmas Eve Ball was amazing and so much hard work and effort was put in by all the hotel staff (whilst all this is going on nothing else suffers) the food was a banquet fit for a king, and if I had to say something negative it would be that there was just too much to choose from... Which in my eyes is not really a negative.

The animation team (LA VACCA) put on a fantastic show for us on Christmas Eve, and also kept us entertained throughout our stay, they are a great bunch of truly energetic guys...!!!! Well done to MIDO, MIMS, AISTE & OSIRIS you did us proud. Also to EMRE & SATOO who we met briefly.

We also need to mention VICTORIA, the Thomson Rep, she made our stay most memorable and one of the best reps I've ever seen in a hotel holiday resort... She never stopped working, and helping guests to have a great time.

And last but not least... WE CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK AGAIN... Hopefully in April and DEFINITELY FOR NEXT CHRISTMAS...

THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN TO CHRIS JUNG, AHMED MAYER, WALLA IBRAHIM AND ALL THE STAFF AT THE INTERCONTINENTAL, TABA HEIGHTS FOR AN AMAZING HOLIDAY... You did us proud...xxxxx

My husband & I honeymooned here in June 2012. Our week stay was very plesant, relaxing and enjoyable. The weather was fantastic, very hot but there were plenty of parasols and plenty of room to take a dip in the pools. Drinks and snacks were easily accessible even though it was too hot to move sometimes, the waiters would bring our drinks over to us. Service and cleanliness were fantastic. We had a basket of fruit and a cake on arrival to celebrate our honeymoon and we also had a complimentary day in the spa. We were congratulated on our wedding almost every day. The waiters and the manager were so polite and very helpful. The only thing I can complain about is the heat at night, sometimes it was unbearable but thats nothing to do with the hotel and we knew it would be hot in June! The food was fantastic, really filled you up so you didnt feel the need to snack. We went on a boat ride snorkeling in 3 places and that was the highlight of the holiday! Would deffinitely reccomend the Intercontinental hotel, everything was fabulous. Well worth the money, deffinitely will be saving to go again.

Dear Jacqui,
We love the description of "Great, Enjoyable, VIP treatment, Amazing, Excellent, Fire Works...". We also like your 5* for Room, Cleanliness & Service and the 4* for Value, Location & Sleep Quality. Overall 3* is hence a bit of a bad awakening for us... hope to see you back to move this up to the 4.5* indicated in the other categories!

The hotel is well laid out; the rooms are lovely and big as are the bathrooms and the shower cubicle. We stayed in a Pentagon room overlooking the mini golf course. We did have a lovely week at the hotel but unfortunately will not be returning. We just found the hotel to be too big, very much geared up for families and kids and we didn’t like the all inclusive option. A lot of this was obviously down to our choice and not the hotel, hence still giving it 4 stars as I am sure all hotels with AI option are similar.

We were looking for somewhere a bit more romantic as there were just the 2 of us so we spent most of our time either on the beach or sitting at the Lagoon bar which was lovely. I can’t comment on the pool as we could never get a sun bed and the pool was always full of kids. Likewise, the entertainment which was supposed to be adult at 9am, but whenever we walked past the place was again full of kids running riot on the stage even at 9.45 so we never got to see any entertainment. We only ate in the buffet restaurant twice as again it was full of kids running around and not very romantic. We ate and got out as quickly as possible and retreated once again to the Lagoon bar.

The food we did eat was lovely, and I don’t eat meat, but found lots of salad, freshly baked bread, a choice of fish dishes and vegetarian dishes and breakfast was lovely with fresh fruit, yogurt and freshly made omelettes.

We ate out in El Wakela most evenings as the red wine in the hotel was barely drinkable which was a shame and the lobby bar full of smokers. I do think the hotel could improve the wine and also the buffet style area. We ate on the dine-around voucher one night and had a lovely meal at the Sofitel. It was still buffet style but they had a separate adult only restaurant which was laid out with table cloths and more like eating out so we had a nice leisurely meal here one night with nice red wine too so Egyptian wine can be palatable.

There was one day when it rained!! Yes rain in Egypt so we asked about the mini golf and even though we never saw anyone on the course we were informed that the clubs were all out so we never got to play that either.

The staff work really hard and the place is spotless but it would be nice to have an adult section in the main restaurant and to ban smoking in the inside areas. Also the staff could stop the kids running around in the bars, lobby and restaurant. One day kids were playing football in the lobby area which has tables with glass vases on and nobody said a word!! We also had a family move in next to our room the last few days and their kids were banging on the interconnecting door and running up and down outside in the corridor with a football so we went and had a word!

Good bits – the lagoon bar
Bad bits – the smoking and lack of adult areas to eat

Room Tip: Atrium seemed to be quieter as it was apart from the hotel.

Dear Nanoushka,
thank you for your review. Of course it can not be satisfactory to us that you felt disturbed by the children around the hotel. Usually we are known as a relaxing and chilled place. We shall try even harder in the future to advise parents and support them in taming their children so they are having fun while not being a burden & nuisance to others.
It is correct that we are not a Boutique Hotel, however as you mentioned there is always some places to find peace and quiet areas (i.e. the Lagoon Restaurant, Relaxation Area at the beach, etc.). We hope your next vacation spot more suitable to your needs & wants. We would like all our guests to be happy!
With best regards,
Your Crew of the InterContinental Taba Heights Resort
