We travelled as a Family of 6 adults aged between 22-50 on Saturday 27th April to Monday 6th May .
On Arrival we were dealt with swiftly at reception, we had all booked Shoreview rooms as part of our package holiday but trying to find our way to the room was a big awkward - it wasnt really signposted but we found our way after asking a few people for help!
Two of the three rooms were great, unfortunately our room was really smokey (was a non-smoking room) and even though we left the air con on and the doors/windows open to air out the room overnight we couldnt get rid of the smell. On talking to reception in the morning they were brilliantly helpful and apologetic about the room, we were offered to check out another room to ensure we were happy with it before being moved. We were taken by a porter via Golf Cart to the room and returned to reception once we were definitely happy with it and then moved rooms around 4pm which was fine by us.
The food in the buffet was nice; there was plenty of selection at every meal and the breads were always great. Breakfasts were the same every day and towards the end of the week all the meals got a bit samey - but the barbecue that occured a few nights on the terrace were delicious! The pool bar restaurant was a nice lunchtime break from the mad dash of the buffet, the food was always nice and bit more relaxed.
We did have the BBQ meal at the lagoon on our last night - this was such a good meal! The food just kept coming - mezzah starters (dips, breads and salad) to the meats and sides (veg, rice and potato) and then desserts all for a very reasonable price! It does state 160 Egyptian Pounds per person (roughly £16pp) but then they add on taxes and service charge which is more likely to be around £20pp - still definitely worth getting it as its so yummy and a great break from the buffet!
The pool area was great, and the landscaping around the whole hotel was lovely. The pool bar can get a bit crammed at times and the swim up bar is virtually non-existent but if you tipped the guy collecting the glasses he will get you drinks instead every now and then! The hotel doesnt have much going on but we were there for 9 nights and didnt feel the need to do much else so its not boring to say the least! We did venture out for a walk one day and went snorkelling off the jetty outside another hotel about 15mins walk to the left of the hotel - there is a path all the way along and it is definitely worth making the walk! The water is crystal clear and the amount of fish is amazing! I do not particularly like going in the sea so i stayed on the jetty whilst the others swam - i could see just as much from out the water and it was beautiful! The week before we were there turtles were spotted in this area so go check it out!!
The staff were possibly the best bit of the whole holiday! They were never pushy and just like to have a chat - they were what made the holiday extra special with the fact they would go out of their way to make sure you were happy.
We spent most of our evenings in the Lagoon bar, this was a lot more of a relaxed atmosphere than the lobby bar and was great to try all the cocktails and enjoy the breeze! Also we were staying at the building next to the bar so even more incentive.

All in all, it wasnt a 5 star holiday but it was a nice break with guaranteed weather, great staff and a nice relaxing atmosphere!

We needed a relaxing and sunny break away from the English weather and chose a week at the InterContinental Taba Heights. We had a lovely time : great room, very friendly staff, excellent food and lots of sunshine. We were on an all inclusive package which was good but we took the opportunity to try the other restaurants too and really enjoyed them. We can highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a relaxing time in the sun. Carol

This spring myself and my family chose this hotel as a holiday destination due to past experience of various members of our holidaying group.

The location is perfect, the hotel clean and spacious, the pool a delicious break from the scorching sun, the snorkelling opportunities are pretty limitless, drinks are bountiful, and the hotel lives up to the all inclusive theme without reserve.

Food is generally ok, the dining experience on the whole good, although can feel a little school dinners with a dash of unknown (thinking of the Egyptian scrambled egg.. be wary)

The only thing I can discount this hotel on is the staff. Don't get me wrong there are some real gems in there (there is a guy at the beach bar who was just lovely, really lovely, he frequently walked round the pool and offered to refresh drinks. The egg man in the morning, who can keep 8 frying pans going at a time, and never forgot what you ordered was another gem), but the majority rules, and the majority were ignorant and downright rude. We slowly got used to be ignored, and shoulder shrugs were bountiful, when you did manage to get a member of staffs attention when something went wrong, on the off chance they haven't walked away from you mid sentance.

Organisation is really lacking, especially in the "el mar" lunchtime restaurant. These staff especially seem to make life hard for themselves. I don't think I have ever come across a more disorganised bunch. They managed, on a daily basis to annoy and enrage just about every Brit we came across. Brits when faced with a busy situation, will generally form a queue and wait patiently to be seated and will take their turn. However this restaurant is chaotic, with some people queuing and others (generally locals and Russian clients less inclined to queue) to bully and take tables as they feel like it.

On the worst instance, we stood and patiently queued for 40 mins, watching tables be snapped up, and were even confronted by other hotel guests who were far more aggressive to back away from tables. We were repeatedly ignored by staff, eye rolling, and even openly laughing at us was all part of the experience. It is probably the worst dining experience I have ever encountered. There were lots of staff, but none of them seemed to be doing anything other than dodging the people that needed them to get organised and stop what had become a manic lunch service, in 40+ degree heat.

A few of the boys in our group ventured off for a day of golf. The feedback was that it was superb, and they would have spent a lot more time there is they could have done.

The Spa is also a must visit, and is surprisingly under used. Book yourself a massage, you won't regret it.

To recap, amazing location, lots to do, or not do. Just a shame that a majority of staff we encountered (not all, as stated some of the staff were amazing) left a shadow over the holiday.

Will keep an eye on Trip advisor and see other reviews, as we would desperately like to come back to Taba sept this year, if the staff are behaving better, the intercontinental will be our 1st choice.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, upgrade to a junior suite. The views and the rooms were amazing.

Hi themizzvee,
thank you for your positive overall assessment! We are glad to be your 1st choice in Taba and hopefully overall for your next vacation. We have introduced the poolside lunch recently and general feedback has been fantastic. Our F&B team was a little overwhelmed by the great pick up and we have since adjusted team & procedures to better suit the volumes... and to give you the same great experience as in all areas of the hotel.
Looking forward seeing you back to check on us :)
Greetings form the team of the InterContinental Taba Heights Resort

My husband and I,stayed for 2 weeks in March and the whole experience exceeded our expectations. After a bad holiday in Sharm 2 years ago,we both were sligthly anxious going back to Egypt. So glad we went! Everything was perfect, just what we wanted.
We upgraded our room to sea view(worth it) and stayed in room 4134, 4th floor.By the sea, with it's own private beach ,at the bottom of the mountains, the hotel invites you to relax.
The staff were friendly and efficent in the bars, buffet restaurant, spa and beauty salon. Many thanks to management for our welcome fruit basket and spa voucher, very nice touch. Also Barakat,Hassan,Ahmed and Khaled for making our holiday special.Taba Heights it's a special part of Egypt. My friend and I had a very enjoyable week at the Intercontinental in Taba. Overall, it's not a glittering 5 star hotel but, from our point of view, it ticked pretty well all boxes. The rooms were spacious, clean with comfortable beds, ample hot water and the TV worked well. The pool area was very nice, and we enjoyed our spot by the swim-up bar, giving us easy access to the pina coladas on tap! The food was ok and each night I usually managed to find something tasty and healthy to eat. At breakfast the omelette station was very slow and, depending on who was cooking, the quality varied somewhat, but usually it was fine. My only criticisms would be the wifi in the lobby was sporadic at best, which I know others found equally frustrating. Also the 'entertainment' in the evening was limited to shows of varying quality and then there was very little to do after that, given that the bars were not all-inclusive after 11 pm, so it was extremely quiet, with no easy access to places to go beyond the hotel at that time of the night. That said, the staff were all extremely friendly and polite and, if I was looking for a safe bet for a week in the sun, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Intercontinental (just don't expect proper five star luxury!)

Hi Chrissy,
thank you for your careful recommendation. Internet unfortunately is a challenge in all of Egypt at the moment after it was tried to cut the undersea cables just off-shore of Alexandria some time ago. Thank you very much for the positive note on our team. This is highly appreciated and will be passed on to them in the next monthly Team Member gathering.
Hope to see you back for some more relaxation soon.

My wife and I have just returned from our seventh visit to the Intercontinental Hotel in Taba Heights where we experienced the same first class service we have enjoyed since our first trip. The Senior Management team are discreet but always there to offer help or handle any queries you may have. All hotel staff - in the bars, restaurants and bedrooms offer a first class friendly helpful service. The food in the main restaurant is varied and always delicious. A special mention must be made of the salads prepared by the Birds' Nest restaurant staff every lunch time and often in the evenings. No wonder there are so many returning guests at this hotel. The golf course across the road which has some of the most picturesque views of any course is a huge attraction to us and a pleasure to play. We hope to return in the winter season. Try to tip the staff a little and often as they most certainly give that added value to your holiday..
JAB

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view are worth the little extra.

Just was there for a one night stay on a business trip. Warm welcome by the front desk staff and very friendly general manager. Check-in was quick and we were in our rooms in no time. As this hotel is built the very typical Taba Heights style, rooms are large, minimalistic, not luxorious looking but everything you need is there. Comfortable beds, clean bathroom (shower heads should be updated!)
The general areas of the hotel are well kept and staff is friendly overall. Service is OK but a bit disorganised, nor refined.
Spa is basic but the massage received was of a good quality. In a 5* hotel having to pay for the use of sauna and jacuzzi? Should not be. Wifi never worked in the lobby
The biggest disappointment was the food. I really expected more choice, better quality. Breakfast was OK but understaffed at the omelet station (15min wait?). The dinner was way below 5* (barely basic 4*) and service lacking, both at the table and show cooking stations. I heard from friends that the à la carte restaurants are way better. The all in formula is also limited.
For golfers this hotel is excellent located accross from the clubhouse. I would probably stay here again because if on another business trip to Taba, but personally I would not choose it as a holiday destination promising 5*.

Room Tip: Top floor junior suites with large balconies and lounge chairs

Dear Wim,
thank you for your review. Premium services are chargeable as it also enables us to keep them premium and protect them against overcrowding in a hotel of our size. Maybe you give the Sauna, Jacuzzi and Steam a try next time along with your massage? Or have a go in one of the many a la carte options to experience the full flavor of the resort? Coming in late afternoon and leaving early morning does certainly has the potential to paint a little distorted picture... Give it a few more days and we are sure you will be convinced.
Best wished from the InterContinental Taba Heights Resort Team
