Aroha Taveuni
Reviewed 3 November 2013

We staid for three weeks at Aroha Taveuni and loved every second of it! From the outset we were made to feel like we were at home and nothing was too much trouble for Ngaire or Dennis to arrange for us. As a couple without children we found the arrangement absolutely perfect - Aroha is located conveniently close to Somosomo village and there are bikes to hire to ride into town or it's only a short stroll to the nearby shops. The layout of the bures is fantastic, providing plenty of privacy. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and everything you need for cooking (if you can resist Cookie's cooking!), while the outdoor shower is lovely!
The natural environment of the local area is stunning! We enjoyed many days diving on the Somosomo strait as well as hiking up to Lake Aselemo, enjoying the Lavena Coastal walk and Tavoro Falls. Ngarie is great at encouraging you to get out and see the local environment and arranging everything for you.
A real treat while staying here was the Lovo nights that Denis and Ngarie arrange. You can watch the meals being made from scratch and learn how to make coconut milk, while enjoying the Fijian singing and kava. Cookie's night time meals were always delicious and my dietary restrictions were always accommodated. It was a lovely experience to sit around the main house table at the end of each day and compare stories with the other guests.
We would highly recommend staying here to couples and families alike. We were heartbroken to leave and will definitely be coming back!

Thank you to the team at Aroha.!! We stayed there for 12 nights and it is perfect!! We did not want the resort - we wanted a place that was genuine, comfortable and affordable and where it would allow us to rest and to also explore the island, it's history, nature as well as get to know and learn about the community, people and the way of being in Taveuni. Aroha was really a perfect place to do that. It's location on the island is central with great access to the local markets and activities. Aroha has some great tour suggestions and will organize it all for you. a must do is the Marine Park, the Sea Kyaking and waterfall walks and snorkeling/diving. We also did something a little different and took a local bus ride to the south end of the island. the 70 km trip took four hours and was well worth it. we met some wonderful people along the way the bus ride is a community in itself. Get some advise re catching the bus from the Aroha team. Thank you to
Nigare, Denis and the wonderful caring staff (who were also very caring and helpful when I unexpectingly became unwell - thank you). We can't wait to come back to stay and to also sail to Taveuni from Sydney. Bulla and thank you to you all. Aroha is highly recommended from us. Allison and Warren

For the past few years we have travelled to various tropical destinations close to New Zealand with our extended family. Our first holiday was in an upmarket resort near Nadi which we enjoyed but came away feeling we had seen nothing of the local culture. We decided we would rectify this by going to the little known island of Taveuni and stay at the highly recommended Aroha Resort. Aroha Resort totally justified its five star rating. Ngaire and Dennis have created a destination that has everything for a comfortable and relaxing tropical holiday. But they have done more - they have made their lovely local staff very much a part of their resort and we enjoyed getting to know them and understanding a little of their lives.
We have four grandsons so holidays are for activities and there was plenty for them to do. From riding the waves in the kayaks, snorkelling on the reef, building a hut in the bush to trips to join local youngsters sliding down waterfalls and a walk to other spectacular waterfalls in
Lavena National Park.
We have decided unanimously to pay Aroha Resort the best compliment we can. We are already discussing with Ngaire and Dennis the possibility of returning next year, which is a first for us.

Room Tip: No problem, go in any they are all good.

Aroha has a string of five star reviews and plaudits and I'm not going to disagree with any of them. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at these well designed and appointed bures and the whole experience was complimented by the easy familiarity and hospitality of Arohas kiwi owners. An infinity pool, delicious dinners at the communal table or on your private terrace, a well stocked honour system drinks fridge and all the ingredients for breakfast waiting in your kitchen are some of the details which make this hotel a stand out.

I stayed at Aroha with my husband for 7 nights and we loved it!
The bure is comfortable and you have a full kitchen available. We were having breakfast every morning watching the ocean. But the greatest feature is the shower, now we want to build it in our home! the shower is huge, open air and build of stones, overlooking the mountains of Taveuni. Amazing! The owners Ngaire and Dennis are always available to give you suggestions and make you feel welcomed and at home
Definitely a plus the dinners around the communal table, chatting with all the guests, great food and very well made.

Just had a great honeymoon on the island. Aroha Taveuni is an upmarket and homely place to stay. We loved the local knowledge that Ngaire and Dennis shared with us. Food was amazing and authentic. Plenty to do on the island if you like the outdoors. Or just lie on the beach right in front of your room. Thanks Ngaire and Den.

The loveliest 4 days of our 17 day trip in Fiji were at Aroha Taveuni with Dennis and Ngaire along with the rest of their warm staff. Their hospitality alone would get them a five star rating. I echo many of the already existing reviews. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, private, with an amazing outdoor shower and fantastic fully equipped kitchenette making it a breeze to prepare your own meals. But I would highly, highly, highly recommend dinner with the hotel. Cookie, their resident chef prepares absolutely delicious dishes and perhaps some of the finest food that can be found in Taveuni. If you are there on a Saturday evening, you are in for a special treat - Fijian night! This is an evening of local dishes, music and of course, kava, a traditional drink and ritual. Taveuni is filled with things to do such as diving, snorkeling, hiking, natural water slides, waterfalls, horseback riding, etc and Aroha will be there to assist in reservations and arranging transportation. If relaxation is more your speed, there are plenty of places to settle in with your favorite book, lay by the pool, take a stroll along the beach or treat yourself to one of their outstanding massages. We loved them so much that we each received 2! Aroha deserves every last outstanding review and I'm pleased to add another five star rating. We can't wait to go back!!!
