“Heaven on Earth!”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

I can honestly say, not a day goes by that we don't reminisce of our experience at Koro Sun. The moment we arrived (and we arrived unexpectedly early), we were treated like family.

The best part about Koro Sun is not the activities, which were a lot of fun, or the beautiful rooms. The staff is what really made our trip. We went right before Christmas time and virtually had the whole resort to ourselves. The staff was incredibly attentive, FUN, and accommodating. The restaurant and bar staff got to know all of our favorite things and made a point to get to know us. Solo, the activities director, was one of our best friends during our trip. We were often the only people going out, and he made sure to make it feel like a personal experience. He even brought us to his own village so we could get to know more about the Fijian culture. The owners, Jack and Patsy, were at the resort during our stay and we quickly became friends. They recommended some awesome activities and we shared some fun meals together. We also got to attend the staff Christmas/appreciation party. In that party you can see how much they love their staff and how the staff loves to work for them.

MUST DO ACTIVITIES: The waterfall and village tour, snorkeling, and the banana leaf wrap and massage (this is truly heaven on earth).

ROOMS AND FACILITIES: We stayed in the new accommodations over the water-- it was a scene from a luxury travel catalog. We had our own private plunge pool, that we spent many hours in, a ladder leading to the ocean, which we also utilized many times, and a full kitchen, 2 full bathrooms, and a fabulous top floor master suite with balcony. We were very comfortable and happy to spend some down time in our room during our stay. We got to take a sneak peak at the new rooms and infinity pool, which are sure to be impressive, especially with the colorful sunsets. The restaurant on the water is the best place to watch the sun set in the evening, which we enjoyed many times.

FOOD: The food was excellent. Everything was delicious and creative. The freshness of the organic fruits and vegetables that they grow on site (ask for a tour of the organic farm!) really makes the difference. Our favorite meal was the traditional Fijian feast, where we were treated to a candlelit dinner over the lagoon because it was our honeymoon.

We were so very sad to leave, but we now know that we have family to go back to in Fiji. We can't wait to visit again with friends and hopefully our own family one day. Thank you Koro Sun for the wonderful experience-- we miss you!

Room Tip: Check out the edgewater bures-- brand new and beautiful views.

Bula Vinaka. Thank you for sharing one of the most detailed reviews ever read about Koro Sun Resort on Tripadvisor.

Allow us to introduce ourselves. My name is Josaia Rayawa or "JR" as my friends refer to me. My wife Margie and I co-manage Koro Sun Resort. We joined the team in early 2014 and would have missed you when you visited the resort.

We were very impressed with the detailed effort you put into your review and we have taken on this habit of now sharing with the staff in general , feedback we get on tripadvisor to encourage our staff in maintaining the services we offer and improving in areas that we need to. A heading like "Heaven on Earth" is very humbling indeed and it is a motivating factor for us as a team to ensure that others do enjoy the same experience.

We hope that you will have another opportunity to come visit us again in Koro Sun in the not-too-distant-future.

Our warmest regards to you.

JR (& Margie)
Co-General Managers.

This is our third trip to Fiji in the last 2 years and our 4th resort so you may want to check out my other reviews of Fiji resorts if you are trying to decide which place to go.

We visited Koro Sun in January which is the off season so our experience may not be representative. Our group of six people constituted most of the resort guests. At no time did the occupants exceed 10 in a resort with approaching 40 rooms. I was told that they rarely have more than 30 guests. Despite that, they are furiously building more rooms. Very odd.

The rooms were decent to good. We had to leave our first room due to mutliple issues with the electrical system and a leaking roof. They moved us to the nicest place on the resort which was nice.

This is the hard part to describe, but the place just had a weird vibe. The people did not seem to be happy to be there (which is in stark contrast to the rest of Fiji). All the management was brand new and just getting their feet on the ground. I think they recognized the issues but haven't had time to correct (just a guess there).

The thing that really dropped my rating though was that several things went missing from our room during our stay. Since there weren't any guests at the resort, there is only one possibility. Also, they went missing a different times. We are certain they were not misplaced. Further, they were reported missing early in the trip and never found.

Some good things to note:
The food was good to excellent.
The diving was excellent (separate business but they work closely together)
The common areas were quite nice.
Management really seems to care and want to bring the resort up to a high standard.

Room Tip: The newer rooms are twice as expensive as the older ones. I just can't see why.

Thank you for your review of your stay in January 2014, and the mention of the wonderful diving. The soft coral capital of the world we like to think is here in our back yard of Savusavu. We also appreciate that you enjoyed the food, and common areas as well as made mention of our management team who we are delighted to have on board.

I'm sorry that you were disappointed with some aspects of your stay particularly the fact that some of your belongings went missing. We are embarrassed and disappointed this would have happened to you or any visitor to our resort and take the matter very seriously. We have a zero tolerance policy for theft, and have since let go 3 housekeep staff around that period of time. While we could not prove unfortunately who exactly it was, or relocate the items lost, we did dismiss staff and have not had an issue since that time. We are very sorry for the lost items and do encourage our guests to use the safes provided in the rooms while visiting.

With regard to the occupancy, as you mentioned this is indeed Fiji's slow season with most resorts running in the low teens for occupancy. We just added our 10 new Edgewater Bures along the waterfront due to the demand we see in our high season from May- October in Fiji. I can imagine it may have felt a bit odd at times with less guests in house and the new rooms not occupied or the absence of the new Edgewater Beach Club.
Thank you for your comments, we do want to apologize for the thefts once again.

I loved the Koro Sun and their warm and welcoming staff, you feel like family from the moment you arrive. Each bure (bungalow) is private so you feel like you're in your own little tropical paradise even though you're just a short walk to the main hall. Meals are served at specific times and there is only one dining area but the chef is remarkable. Food fresh with lots of local flare. Don't miss their spa located beside a gorgeous waterfall. The banana wrap and massage should be on everyone's bucket list.

Thank you for your review, we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay at Koro Sun. Our staff certainly make the experience here with the friendly faces of our team who welcome guests to their home here in Savusavu. The Fijians are truly the friendlies people in the world, and were delighted they made such a great impression on you during your stay. Sorry to hear you felt the accommodations were more in line with three star as noted by the review title. We are officially rated by AAA as a four star resort, and do have a wide range in the level of accommodations at the property from our ocean view (lead in rooms) to the new deluxe accommodations at Edgewater.
Thanks again for your comments.

I loved our trip to Koro Sun Resort. My husband and I went there for our 30th anniversary and it was everything we dreamed it would be and more. The grounds were lovely. We were lucky enough to stay in the over the water villa for part of our stay and it is truly worth the price. In a word it was amazing. I went to the Rainforest Spa, and ladies, this is a must do on your list!! The sound of the waterfall and a gentle rain going through the trees was heaven on earth. I have talked about how great the grounds were but the real treasure of Koro Sun is the staff. I have never stayed at a resort were I was treated better. They would stop what ever they were doing to greet you and took every chance to make you feel special. They were kind beyond words and I will remember each and everyone of them always!

Our heartiest Bulas to you.

I am not sure whether we did personally meet, as I only joined Koro Sun Resort in April of this year and Margie (my wife and Co-GM) starting around January.

Anyway, we just wanted to extend our heart-felt thanks for the kind review you have extended to Koro Sun Resort.

We taken on the habit of sharing with our staff any feedback we get from tripadvisor as part of our efforts to encourage our staff to continue with their good work and to help improve ourselves where we might have faulted as a team. Thank you again for choosing KSR as your holiday destination.

We hope to have another opportunity to have you come and celebrate another anniversary with us at Koro Sun Resort.

With all our best wishes,

Having stayed in several places in Fiji, none of them compare to Koro Sun. The service is exceptional, nothing is too difficult and in fact most of the time our needs were met before we even asked! Stayed in a 3 bedroom Villa which was spacious and well kept. The food was magnificent... every single time! And they loved our children and couldn't have helped more... Can't wait to go back!

Having done the luxury Denaru trip previously, my experience at Korosun took my breath away. This has all the fabulous over-water bures, infinity pools and spectacular food that Fiji has now mastered, but it's fused with a unique old world Fiji adventure.
How honoured were we to meet villagers and share their daily plunge into a pristine waterfall lake? How fascinating it was to witness the underwater pearl farm, the extraordinary reefs and tiny islands nearby, and share cocktails with the resort owners, on the balcony of their treetop villa, looking over a heavenly coastal view.
What a dedicated local crew they have, farming their own produce, guiding us around the sights and wrapping us up in a banana leaf, inside the rainforest spa.
I went to review the place for my radio show, and they paid for part of my stay, but this is no freebie review.
Yes there are other places in Fiji to go next time, but Korosun deserves at least 4 visits in a lifetime... Go. You'll see what I mean.

Room Tip: The Bures are a winner. The kayaking a must, and once you get to the waterfall lake, you'll be d...

My wife and I could not have been more pleased with all the wonderful people at the Koro Sun Resort. The people of Fiji are known to be some of the happiest people on Earth. You are treated with pure joy and overwhelming generosity. There stunning views from the tropical rain-forest mountain top villa and unforgettable colors of coral and sea life at Turtle Alley. Snorkeling is an absolute must at Koro Sun Resort! If you are looking to have a true Fiji experience I recommend taking a trip to church, go to the villages, take the waterfall trip, kayak to Bat Island, go Salt Lake kayaking, take a hike rain-forest trekking, and shop at the Savusavu market. The activities that Koro Sun offers overflow with fun and will not disappoint. It is worth every dollar to make the trip to Koro Sun!!! We are going going, back back, to SavuSavu! BULA FIJI!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent!! Sunrise at the water-edge villas, parrots at the rain-forest bures!
