“A memory to treasure forever”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

One hears a lot about how friendly the people of Fiji are, but "friendly" doesn't quite convey it. There is a warmth and an openness of spirit greater than any I have ever encountered anywhere else in the world. The owners of Daku, Delia and JJ, have created a place which captures and exemplifies this wonderful Fijian spirit. You feel welcome the moment you arrive, and by the time you depart, you feel you are leaving old and dear friends. Meals - which are delicious and fresh - are served at a communal table, where everyone eats together with much laughter and conversation. (You could, of course, eat alone if you preferred.) It seems that nothing is too much trouble for Delia and JJ, and their courteous staff, to ensure your comfort and well-being. And all of this in gardens like an earthly paradise. My visit to Daku will remain one of those memories that glows in the mind and can be revisited with pleasure forever.

Thrilled to have experienced the warm hospitality at Daku Resort - we stayed recently for a week long yoga retreat and had a wonderful time. The staff were chatty, helpful, and had ever-present smiles to offer, the owners of Daku (JJ and Delia) take a personal interest in each guest and provide entertaining dinner conversations, the grounds were well-maintained and all the facilities - snorkels, pool, games, yoga area etc, excellent.

We enjoyed the fresh, tasty food, especially the 'rotating' dinner table - in a new location each night!

The showers are huge with great pressure, and we had daily swims out to the pontoon with beautiful coral and brightly coloured fish all around.

As always, it's the people who make a place and the awesome team at Daku are the reason we're already looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: The bures from 3 onwards are all further away from the main dining area and a bit quieter.

We came to Daku in May 2014 for a one-week Yoga retreat and had a fabulous time. The resort is conveniently situated within walking distance of SavuSavu and a few minutes drive from the airport.

The resort is tidy and tranquil with lush gardens and 100 year+ coconut trees characteristic of Fiji. It features it's own pool, beach volleyball net, restaurant, yoga platform, massage platform, Kayaks, Snorkeling and much more. The Bures are facing into lush wide-open gardens with Ocean view and have everything they need.

The rooms were thoughtfully serviced daily. E.g. the fan was switched on, enough tablets for the insect regulating device are available, the window blinds are half down, the flower arrangements are refreshed.

Most of the staff come from nearby villages and treated our group as part of their family. The warmth and kind-heartedness with which we were included is what really makes Daku special. The moment we arrived we felt part of the place. Its wide smiles, delicious food and genuine family atmosphere made us feel relaxed and comfortable. In the evenings, everyone eats together so you get to know people and owners of the resort.

Our days were pretty relaxed. Yoga in the mornings and evenings combined with a snorkelling, swimming or reading in the afternoons. If that's too relaxed, the owners are more than happy to arrange various activities. We went on a boat outing to a private beach and did some snorkelling at a reef across the bay which had terrific sea life and colourful corrals.

In short, this place is fantastic value for money!

Room Tip: If in doubt, ask the owners JJ and Delia - they care

Had a very interesting and fun stay at Daku resort. The owners are great company and very welcoming and the staff friendly and warm. I loved the communal dinners and relaxing poolside. Towns is a 30min waterfront walk away, and there is great diving and snorkelling. If you want a genuine Fijian experience without the commercialism of other resorts I highly recommend Daku resort.

Room Tip: The solo bure would be quieter then the rooms behind the pool as they have thin walls.

This is a very pleasant, low key resort with excellent accommodation, service and food. Wonderful diving and snorkeling are close by and the owners, Delia and JJ, go out of their way to make you feel at home.

Daku Resort is a place of constant delight. The owners, Delia and JJ, have created a home from home for their guests in impossibly beautiful Fiji. The moment we arrived and were greeted by the gracious smiling staff we knew we were in a special place. The food is delicious and fresh. I hope anyone who visits the island of Vanua Levu and is not fortunate enough to be staying at Daku will arrange to have at least one meal there. The staff are all multi-talented and helpful. Who could forget Kenny singing the farewell song and not long to return. We arrived as strangers and left as family.

Room Tip: I loved our bure up on the hill with an intoxicating view

This resort rates itself as 3-star because it is, as they claim, "old-fashioned". However, the warmth of the hospitality raises the value way beyond that. The resort is located out of the delightful town of Savusavu but within easy reach. The burés look across typical Fijian gardens to the bay and the facilities are all handy, Our buré was comfortable and well equipped; the shower room in particular was very spacious. Our room was made daily up with care including checking that the ceiling fan was on and that at night, the insect control device was functioning.
There is a good sized pool and swimming is also available around a platform moored 50m off the beach.
But what makes this resort outstanding is the manner in which you are taken in as part of the family. Everybody, owners included, sits at a communal table for meals and you quickly get to know people you've never met.The staff is friendly and helpful and also seem to be part of the family. A range of classes is on offer to those interested and the owners will organise all sorts of activities if lazing around a pool and enjoying the ambience is not enough for you.
We have never experienced hospitality of this order before, and we've travelled quite a lot. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Leave it to the owners: they care!
