“Really friendly resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

We have just had two lovely relaxing weeks at Daku and highly recommend it!
Daku is not one of those big impersonal resorts, there are no children's clubs or night club style entertainment, but instead it is quite small with a wonderful friendly atmosphere. There is a lovely big pool which we enjoyed beside a cool airy reception/lounge/bar area. We wandered through the beautiful gardens with all sorts of flowering shrubs and fruit trees. Dinner at the resort is great fun at a long table with very good and varied food, beautifully cooked. We both had a massage from Kalo which was terrific. All the staff were helpful and friendly. JJ and Delia were very friendly and Delia went to enormous trouble to show us around and take on walks on their 165 acres of woodland hills. The sunsets from the Decking of the "Beach House" where we stayed were beautiful and I really miss listening to the lapping of the sea at night. While the snorkeling was good at nearby Split Rock I would recommend at least once, taking a taxi out to Koro Sun Dive, where they take you out on a dive boat for wonderful snorkeling while the divers can dive with Koro Sun. SavuSavu is such a genuine Fijian town with a market, super-markets, local shops and restaurants. We loved having a coffee at the Copra Shed at the Yacht Club and watching all the yachts come and go and local life go past. Thank you Daku for a great holiday.

Just had the holiday of a lifetime on a yoga retreat at Daku Resort. The view from the elevated yoga platform across swaying palm trees, sweeping lawns and gardens to the ocean was amazing! We were entertained royally by hosts JJ and Delia with excellent freshly cooked meals provided by the gentle and friendly staff. The bures were spacious and clean with fresh flowers delivered. Massages provided by Kalo were magic. We will return!

As I haven't been to Fiji since the early 70's and that was on the main Island I was most pleased to find a lovely little haven tucked away and still unspoilt being Savusavu, just up the road is the Resort Daku which turned out to be a wonderful experience as it felt like 'family' with JJ and Delia being our hosts and joining us for meals and mingling with the other guests so when we saw them in town we had someone to talk to and find out information from many sources. George accompanied us to a lovely waterfall and Karlo does a mean massage, the snorkeling outside Daku was great. Daku has a wonderful yoga platform that is 50 steps high with great views and a place of serenity. The bure we were in was ideal for that environment as it has the shutters to let the air in and also screened, fresh flowers on the bed and tables and even in the bathroom. Delia came on a walk with us behind the resort which was interesting as found out what some trees were. Would recommend this resort and the food was fantastic. JJ was very kind and drove us to and from our resort.

Just spent a glorious week at Daku Resort and it was the best holiday I've had in a long while! Loved staying in our lovely bure by the sea and mingling with guests and staff at mealtimes. Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive to our every need... providing fresh coconuts to quench our thirst or marvelous massages with panoramic views. After a day out touring or snorkelling, it was always nice to return "back home" to Daku in the late afternoon. The hosts of Daku, JJ and Delia give guests a choice of eating privately or joining the other guests for a 'long table' three course dinner. Food was local, fresh and delicious and the conversation that ensued up and down the table was sheer delight, Sitting at a table with fellow travellers from around the world and sharing stories was absolutely inspiring. The marina at Savu Savu and surrounding area of beaches and rainforest provide the perfect backdrop for the "Daku Experience." Came home feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Mary C

What can i say about Daku? Nothing negative, that's for sure. JJ (aka Mr Charisma) and Delia are wonderful hosts and made me feel like we'd known each other for years. I was in Savusavu to photograph a wedding on the other side of the island and everything was done to make sure i had everything i needed, from a full tummy to a ride to the venue. (Even once by JJ himself, because "that's the kind of guy he is") As far as everything else goes, the room was spick and span, the food was great and the staff were fabulous. I'll be back for sure! Thanks JJ and Delia :)

Just returned from our second trip to Daku and it was just as relaxing, friendly and enjoyable as the first. While there was a bit of an initial mix up about our room (we had booked and very much looked forward to the Beach House where we had stayed previously), JJ was quick to respond and upgraded us to the Bayview Villa, which was absolutely beautiful and included our own private plunge pool! Couldn't be happier! The staff were, as usual, friendly and accommodating and always willing to help with advice on places to go. Kenny provided us with all we needed to know about local customs such as etiquette when visiting a village and Esther helped me collect some native basil, growing wild near our villa, and gave cooking advice! JJ and Delia join in the nightly dinners, with all guests seated together at one long table, with great food and much conversation and laughter. Delia took us out on the boat for snorkelling and shared her knowledge with great enthusiasm.

While Daku may not be as slick and luxurious as some of the package-deal resorts of Fiji, these personal experiences far outweigh anything they have to offer - where else would the resort owners and staff make you feel like old friends? Both of our visits included our two children and they had a ball just snorkelling at the lovely little reef 50 metres from our door, playing in the pool or just chilling out on our beautiful deck overlooking the bay (and of course our private pool!) - no kids' club required! As we were on a budget, we opted to utilise our kitchen for most meals; only very slight negative was that it could have had a few more implements to be 'fully equipped', but we were on Fiji time, where nothing's a hassle - we just bought our own can opener and sharp knife in town - no problem!

I give Daku 5 stars, not because it's a 5 star facility, but because it's a 5 star experience!

Room Tip: The pool house would be fantastic for big groups, sleeps 10 or more with 4 bathrooms!! but if you wa...
