“Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2014

We just had a couple day layover in Fiji and decided that we didn't want to do the resort thing so took the approximately 2.5 hour drive from the Nadi airport up to Rakiraki were we were able to see the real Fiji along the way. The Queens Hwy was closed for bridge replacement not far from the hotel so we had to drive through Rakiraki on detour to the hotel so that was a little confusing. The rooms were basic, but functional. We dropped off our bags and freshened up and then drove up to the Volivoli resort that was about 20 minutes away and walked down to their beach to enjoy a little Fiji beach and sunset. We ate dinner that night at the hotel. The food was good and about on par price wise with other restaurants we had seen – around $20 -$30 FD for most meals. We went into town and grabbed a few breakfast items and put them in the room fridge for breakfast. Hotel breakfasts always seem to be way more expensive than they should be – including this one. I was able to put the room on a credit card, but it didn't look like they did that very often and it took a couple tries to get it. They also charge extra (I think it was 3%) for putting it on a card. The grounds were nice and we did enjoy a stroll around them. The staff was all very friendly and helpful.

I don't really have anything overly positive or negative to say about this place. It was the last stop on our Feejee Experience tour and was nothing special compared to the first two resorts we'd been to. The bedroom (private) was nice and very clean, just a normal hotel room, and the bathroom was a good size. There is a pool area with table tennis next to it. The dining area was indoors next to reception. Nobody seemed overly impressed with the food but it was decent. On the plus side, eggs are inclusive in the breakfast. The staff was quite friendly. This is fine for a stop and we had no complaints, but it's not somewhere you'll be talking about once you leave.

This was the last night stop as part of our Feejee Whole Hula Experience Tour, saving the best for last is not this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, only problem we had to order what we wanted to have when we arrived 3 hours before dinner and then pay for it then. The food was very good, breakfast set up was really weird, if you wanted cereal it was not included as part of the buffet breakfast cost, you had to pay for it, but eggs (fried scrambled or poached) were included in buffet cost. Then they had fruit and yoghurt, the fruit was included in the cost of the buffet but the yoghurt was not. Our room had been refurbished, had a/c which was located on the wall under the window near the floor with a dresser in front of the unit. There appeared to be a lot of local businessman staying at the hotel, which I think it is best suited for, travelling business people. Certainly would not stay here again.

WE spent two weeks in Fiji and the second week was to go around the Main island of Viti levu. After picking up our car this was our first stop ..
MY wife was here 40 years ago and remembers this as the same Hotel ,but a bit more modenized.
Our stay was very welcoming and comfortable with friendly staff. We only stayed one night ,and had the evening meal and the breakfast the next day in the Restaraunt
Could not fault the service, always with the smile.
The rooms were nice and clean as was all the linen.
A nice place to stay .,and we enjoyed the company of the staff and locals

We stayed here with Feegee Experience and I was very ill on the night we were here. The room was nice enough and I wished I had felt better so I could have really enjoyed it! My teen son liked it and the rest of the folks in our group seemed to enjoy it as well.

Room Tip: The private rooms are nice. Many stay in the dorms there but that is not for me!

A regular at the hotel and impressed with the improvements made from the new menu, should mention the pizza is impressive , the decor of reception and the Restaraunt, the new umbrellas by the pool. The rooms are also being upgraded starting with their deluxe rooms with new mattresses in the room, though the pillows are on the large size ( got smaller ones from room service) new A/C and complete with new towels, even towels now for the pool. Seems the only thing that hasn't changed is the welcoming staff.

Another very comfortable stay and though the only alternatives are the impressive local resorts, if it's a stopover on the way round Fiji, or before you end up at Voli Voli, Wannanavu , or the infamous Safari Lodge, you should be more then satisfied.

ps love the new Tanoa uniforms, very classy,

The Tanoa Rakiraki hotel is located alongside the Kings Road highway, so is easy to find. The room was recently clean and equipped with a [weak] air-con unit. The hotel staff, while soft spoken, were very friendly and more than willing to go out of their way to help out (eg. Offering to hold an umbrella for us, while checking in, in the rain. Dining room servers waited on us hand and foot, and the food was surprisingly tasty.
