Ghost Ranch Education & Retreat Center

I recently did a volunteer adult service workshop at Ghost Ranch. Although accommodations might seem rustic to some (it's previous life was as a dude ranch), it was still more than adequate. The grounds and surrounding vistas are beautiful and the staff is friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling around NM. It's a bit off the beaten path so expect cell phone withdrawal but what you will get in exchange is a full appreciation of the uplifting and calming effects of nature. You'll also clearly see why Georgia O'Keefe loved this area so much. Lots to do for folks in all age groups. Also check out their wonderful workshop offerings.

Ghost Ranch enabled us to see New Mexico in a different light than if we had just visited Santa Fe and Albq. This spot is like the Grand Canyon in and of the fact that photography simply cannot capture the beauty of this place. If you are coming to find a 5 star resort, this is NOT IT. If you want friendly folks, better than decent food (served as a family-style buffet), and to escape from the modern world, then this is the spot. PUT THOSE DEVICES AWAY and soak up the atmosphere, and reconnect with your family &/or friends. GREAT hiking abounds, and the Georgia O'Keefe landscape tour is a MUST, even for those like us who are not ardent fans of her work. Some of Ghost Ranch is a bit dated and/or tired, but all is forgivable (in my book) by all that is so very right here. We have traveled all over the world (though never to NM), and it is important to think of these places in context: my expectations at the Waldorf in NY are different than at a small historic B & B in Maine, or Ghost Ranch. Fellow travelers were from a variety of places and walks of life and were, on the whole, an older crowd (kids were still in school)....we did not see any New Agers, as another traveler had. Lots of folks with Jeeps and Subarus. We would come back, but we'd bring friends!

Room Tip: Currently all private bathroom rooms are the same price. Ask for either a historic room near the din...

This place is great if you're a new ager. If you are not then seek shelter somewhere else. I really wanted to love this place. I admire Georgia O'Keeffe and all she stood for. Unfortunately what I found was simply put... new agers in the process of soul seeking. The ranch itself is absolutely beautiful! It deserves many hours of hiking and photo taking. Other than that, stay to yourself and sleep in the elsewhere.

My family and I had a great time here hiking and exploring the grounds and the educational resources Ghost Ranch had to offer. The views from the Chimney Rock outcrop are outstanding and I would most definitely return to this area.

We read the reviews of this place and almost canceled and stayed at the Abiquui Inn and are so glad we did not. Yes, it is basic but the beds are comfortable, the shower is good and the place was warm. We also had a little sitting room. There was also a large common room with a fireplace and comfortable furniture. My only complaint was that we had to walk down a path to get coffee in the morning. It was so quiet and the stars alone were worth the price. We went on 2 hikes and took the O'Keefe Landscape tour (not to be missed). However, we did drive to the Inn for dinner every night. The food at Ghost Ranch is not a high point! There were families staying and I thought it was a wonderful place for multiple generations - especially since the only wireless connection was in the main building and our cell phones could only work for text messages.

Room Tip: Ask to be up on the mesa for the views

Not to be missed. Very unique. Variety of accommodations, some very nice, some rustic. Allow time to hike and visit museums. A great place for families, couples, family reunions, and personal retreats.

Been visiting Ghost Ranch for many years. Accommodations range from rustic to very comfortable and the scenery must be seen to appreciate fully. Hiking trails abound and a plethora of educational opportunities make the place a must if visiting the Southwest.
