“SUPERIOR RETREAT IN NORTHERN NEW MEXICO”

Chaparosa is a quintessential New Mexico experience which allowed us to unplug from our frenzied lives. The views among the foothills were breathtaking. Long walks at sunrise and sunset on the many nearby secluded roads and trails were a wonderful way to begin or end our day. Under the always changing colors of the sky are the land below which changes with it. Dramatic landforms served as a backdrop to the wide open expanses.
Jeff, the owner, was attentive to every need. It is clear this man has put his heart and soul into this venture, and it shows. No detail has been overlooked. Our only regret is we did not find this gem years ago.
Chaparosa is a beautifully furnished classic New Mexican style retreat, both welcoming and comfortable. An abundance of local art was found in the finely appointed rooms. The kitchen was fully stocked with cooking equipment. Breakfast included farm fresh eggs and freshly roasted coffee. If there’s anything missing all one need to do is ask.
Carrots are provided for the three friendly burros which live on the property. Jeff’s two sweet dogs helped us overcome missing our dog back home. Each morning while enjoying breakfast on the front patio we watched dozens of hummingbirds flit about as they filled up on nearby feeders.
Chaparosa has every possible modern amenity…including a private hut tub. Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch are just down the road. We horse backed, kayaked, and hiked the general area, as well as visited the many fine wineries. We shall be back in 2016. Ernie & Jim Ann Arbor, MI

“How Soon Can I Come Back?!!!”
Reviewed 18 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

I have only stayed in a few vacation rentals, and was totally awed with this Casita when we came in. On a girlfriends get-a way with our horses, we were immediately impressed with the view, the "curbside" appeal and the whole ambiance. The dirt road going in was a little rough, but nothing we hadn't seen before. It was quite tight getting our 3 horse slant load gooseneck trailer in, but Jeff got busy with a branch trimmer and soon had us safely parked. After getting our horses settled ( in convenient, safe corrals) we left them to make friends with the llamas and burros.
We were delighted with the wonderful attention to detail we saw every where. Jeff, our host, quickly showed us around and where all the little things we might want or need could be found. Imagine....even DVD copies of all the movies which have been filmed around here! Farm fresh eggs in the fridge, local lavender products in the bathroom, split wood in the back.......heaven! I forgot a hair dryer and that was the ONLY thing we could have used, but air drying on a sunny porch is a nice option.
The serene setting from the back porch in the evening is astounding. The sunny patio on the front for breakfast is a delight. Our hosts knew just how much to greet and how much to leave us on our own, and even helped feed our horses one night when we got back from Santa Fe later than we anticipated!
It was a perfect set up for three lady friends, but I kept picturing how much fun it would be to come back with my husband! Oh, and I WILL be back!

“A Great Place To Stay”
Reviewed 7 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

This is a lovely get away in beautiful and rural Abiquiu, NM. Upon arrival we were taken by the view. The owners were welcoming warm and kind without being intrusive. They had many good suggestions for places to eat and explore. The Casita is clean and rustic furnished with lovely, high end Santa Fe decor and cool artifacts. It is small but perfect for a quaint romantic get away. There are two good bedrooms and beds though and can accommodate extra bodies but I would not think for energetic children as the space is tight. We brought our 95lb dog and it was a bit of a chore keeping his tail from knocking over the interesting things that are placed all about the rooms. The kitchen was stocked with everything one needs and the breakfast food offerings were organic and generous. We would like to return and would recommend this place to others.

Lovely Casita in Georgia O'Keeffe country. The casita is comfortable and beautifully decorated. The breakfast was a treat. We have been warmly welcomed by Jeff and Marilyn. We enjoyed many local sights and found the Casita a great place to relax in. The views are beautiful and the hot tub a treat. We would highly recommend this place as we felt welcomed.

“Peaceful Oasis with Wonderful Hosts”

Our family simply loves Abiquiu, New Mexico, and one of the reasons is the time we spent at the Casita in August. Jeff and Marilyn go above and beyond what is required to make you feel completely at home and welcome in the casita. We highly recommend it.

The casita itself is perched high on a hill with outstanding views of the landscape. My wife and I ventured to New Mexico this trip with our young boys (5 & 7). Most of our time was spent feeding donkeys (carrots, crackers and watermelon) chasing bullfrogs, and admiring hummingbirds. Next time, I will enjoy a good book, a bottle of wine and the view. The view is outstanding. At night, we stared into the skies and saw shooting stars, planets, satellites and the Milky Way creasing across the sky. It may get better somewhere else, but I doubt it.

Inside the casita, you will be comfortable in the 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and 1 living area. The bedrooms are quaintly decorated in Southwestern themes with paintings from prior guests and local artists. The master bedroom has a fireplace, which we did not use (being August), but I can only imagine using it in the winter months. The bathroom is fully stocked with lavender shampoos and soaps.

The living area includes a kitchen stocked with every spice and herb you need (in the summer, there are fresh herbs in the courtyard). Jeff and Marilyn supply plenty of staples for your meals, including an all-organic breakfast (too much to list here). I would recommend stopping at Whole Foods in Santa Fe or the local markets in Santa Fe on your way up to Abiquiu to pick up what else you need to make lunches and dinners. Mamacita's pizza is carryout only right down the road, and there is a FABULOUS spot up the road in El Rito serving the best New Mexican food around (cash only!).

Jeff and Marilyn have painstakingly located every magazine that has ever discussed the Abiquiu area over the years, and all are bookmarked for your reading enjoyment. There are enough books to read over several months of nonstop reading. I learned so much about the area and culture thanks to Jeff and Marilyn's attention to detail.

I think one of the best parts of the time spent at the Casita was simply talking to Jeff and getting to know him. He cares so very much about his guests and ensuring they are happy and comfortable.

We would absolutely recommend the Casita to others and/or stay here again.

“another great stay at the Casita!”
Reviewed 26 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

My sister and I stayed at the Casita de Chuparosa for 7 days - it was a wonderful experience! All of the little touches made the casita feel like it was ours :) Everything in the casita is top-notch, from the down pillows and comforters, to the Fiestaware dishes, to the Pendleton blankets. The owners have stocked the casita with that might be needed! The breakfast food was perfect, too, all locally sourced and organic. We enjoyed feeding the miniature donkeys and watching the birds in the courtyard, and in the evening we got a spectacular view of the sunset from the hottub. If you want to get a true taste of Abiquiu, this is the place to stay - you won't be disappointed!

“Wow!! What a great place…loved every minute of it!!”
Reviewed 22 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

I went here with 3 of my friends and our horses for a "girls' getaway". We had a blast!! Jeff and Marilyn are so friendly and accommodating…where else can you find freshly ROASTED coffee beans for you morning coffee. The kitchen was completely stocked with everything you could possibly want for breakfast…including some gluten free options, fresh, organic eggs, different kinds of jams, breads…you will want for nothing!
We brought 4 horses and they moved their donkeys and llamas around to make room for our horses. We had some great riding in the area…even out from the B&B there is some great riding in wide arroyos.
I can't say enough nice things about Casita de Chuparosa! We hope to go back at some point. Jeff and Marilyn have thought of everything and if there is anything they forgot, they are more than willing to go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. The night skies are filled with millions of stars and it is very beautiful. They book up early so don't wait too long. We LOVED our stay!!!
