Small but very fun. Has a great picnic area and playground to go along with visiting the animals. Loved it!

Fortunately, it only costs a few dollars to get in. We had read that this zoo featured exotic animals as well as animals from the area. We wanted to see the museum more to see the animals from the area as we are from Canada. But I would say that probably the only animal that you have in the nature in the area in the black bear (which you can find in the Sacramento Mountains not too far). The others are mostly from Africa, Australia, these kinds of places. You can find animals from the area on site though as the drought has been so bad that many birds and squirrels come to the zoo to get water (from the exotic animals, bowl, yeah), food and find healthy trees... A lot of the installations have to be cared for, it looks like they have financial problems.

This little zoo offers a nice array of endangered type animals, birds and reptiles. It was pretty warm when we were there and the animals were not very active but we were able to see most of them. They were excited to see the staff show up with lunch! A couple of the animals looked like they needed to have some additional care. A fox and a coyote were scratching so bad and looked miserable. We brought it to the attention of one of the staff. She didn't seem to be aware of it. Hopefully it will be checked on.

For thirty years our family had enjoyed this zoo because the animals and their good care came first. Now the animals are being abused by the unbelievable clamor from huge crowds of screaming kids and loud, often smoking parents.
The once enjoyable to all zoo has become an amusement park for the masses and is being used for all sorts of loud parties, thoroughly disruptive of a zoo's atmosphere.
In the past there were low key celebrations with limited number of attendees. Twice in three weeks our family made the trip to try to enjoy the zoo and it's marvelous creatures. Once we left dissatisfied with the mobs of people jumping around and yelling from the jumping balloons erected by the zoo. Today we could not even find a place to park and the jumping balloons were there once more.
The animals are exposed to all of this unbelievable disturbance. It made my family sick and we left and will not return.

I've lived in Alamogordo almost 20 years and this is the first visit to the Zoo in 15. A lot of big changes have occurred and many are being worked as construction throughout the zoo continues. The visiting school kids seemed to enjoy all the animals, playground and picnic areas. Worth the time to stop and visit. $2.50 for adults...
