We have just returned from our annual 6 weeks holiday to Goa and for the past 5 years have stayed at Xavier Beach Resort and enjoyed great holidays. We booked our usual rooms as we left inFebruary 2012 to return in January 2013 @ 1200 rupees per room per night as usual. I emailed the hotel in April to confirm the booking which was accepted and I received an email confirming. I emailed one week before travelling and confirmed we would arrive on January 10th at approx 5:00am and received no reply. We arrived at 4:45am and no one was was there to meet us and we sat outside the hotel which was open with all light on, until 7:30 am when we wre told the hotel was under new management and the rooms were 2000 rupees per night and they did not know we were arriving. The hotel is now managed by a company called SAFFRON and the manager on site is a young lady called SHWETA who showed up after 9:00am and was adamant that as they did not make the booking they would not honour the price. She eventually on a fee of 1500 rupees per night which she insisted we immediately paid in full. She later told us ther would be some refurbishing work carried out but this was severely understated. The hotel turned into a building site with work bing carried out from 7:00am to 11:00pm with loud banging, hammering, sawing, planing welding and workmen entering our rooms which contained all our belongings, when we wre out to chisel off skirtings and fit new ones. Laminate floors were fitted while we were at the beach which meant our personal belongings were removed and then replaced. The hotel was full of dust and paint and welding fumes and one day the staff lit a fire to burn rubbish and plastic packaging which filled our room with toxic fumes. Even though we constantly complained about the conditions we were living in SHWETA insisted that the work would carry on as scheduled.
A corrugated steel roof had been fitted on a lean to under our balcony and the lock on our sliding balcony door would not lock and we told SHWETA on 2 occasions in the first week that this was a security risk and that anyone could gain access to our room via the corrugated roof. She said this could never happen as they had cctv cameras. Two days later at 12:30am we were woken by noises and the hotel dog barking and found 2 men with large pieces of wood, on the corrugated roof trying to gain access to our room. NONE of the staff were about until Ibanged on SHWETAS door to wake her.We demanded that a new lock be fitted and it was the following morning but when we asked to see the cctv recording she said there were no cameras on that part of the hotel. She then had large metal grills made which were constructed under our balcony with hammering, welding grinding and painting which meant we had noise and fumes for approx 1 week. These were then fitted to all balconies which cagedus in like animals and how do elderly and disabled people escape in case of fire. Carpet tiles were laid on the bedroom corridor and stairs which filled the rooms with adhesive fumes. The next daysome stair tiles had come loose or fallen off making the stairs very dangerous.
The NIGHTMARE lasted for 3 weeks of our holiday until the work was stopped.
The hotel staff who are SAFFRON employees are untraind, most did not speak much English, did no work at all and sat around all day watching tv or playing cricket behind the hotel. The exception was SEBE who is the room boy and has worked at the hotel for a number of years for the previous owner and is a real diamond and gentleman and will do anything fort the guests even running errands in his own time.
No food was available except breakfast which was tea/coffee /toast and jam, even though there were at least 4 chefs employed.
Manager SHWETA is arrogant and incompetent and was too friendly with her staff abd allowed them to do no work although the hotel was filthy. She also told lies sayingshe had contacted her boss who would arrive at the hotel before our holiday ended to sort out our complaints and discuss a refund which we asked for as compensation for our discomfort and ruined 3 weeks of our holiday. holiday. She kept up the lie until a few days nefore our holiday ended when she admitted her boss was not coming and no refund would be paid because SAFFRON did not make the booking.
I advise holiday makers to avoid XAVIER BEACH RESORT or any hotel managed by SAFFRON as they do not seem to have any respect for their guest and their comfort, and you could end up having the "HOLIDAY FROM HELL" in this "NIGHTMARE HOTEL"
