No need for a tour guide here, but take your time to really soak in her beauty of this place. The visit to his actual home was touching and inspiring. What an impact this man had and the Ashram was a gorgeous testimony to his work. Very educational and enjoyable.

Gandhiji left this ashram in 1930 with a vow to return here only after getting independence. The exhibition hall there gives details of major events of the great life. The souvenir shop sells Gandhi books on English and Indian languages apart from CDs,key chains, pencil, pen etc.The simple living of Mahatma can be learned from the cottage where the couple lived. The near by small house of Vinobhaji / Mirabhen too proves the same. The still Sabarmati river bank has the foot prints of the great being. Blessed are the people who get inspired by this beautiful place.

Sabarmati ashram takes you straight through the glorious chapter in Indian history - the fight and struggle for independence. A remarkable insight into the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi - a man who is perhaps a universally revered iconic apostle of peace and non-violence.

A visit to the Ashram was the main purpose of the trip to Ahmedabad. I expected the Ashram to be in a remote area surrounded by open lands. Was very surprised when the chauffeur on the way from the airport to our hotel pointed out the Ashram to us across the river.

The simple life led by the Greatest human being of our times made one appreciate his philosophy and life so much more. I felt so privileged to be able to visit his abode. There ia large collection of his letters and books that give a glimpse into his everyday life and thinking. We have grown up reading about Gandhiji, to actually see and step on the place where he spent so many years of his life put all his teachings into perspective. Do visit with your children

This should be first place to visit (some would like Akshadham) if one is in Ahmedabad. The place is very peaceful and you will feel the coolness and utter bliss. The place is next to Sabarmati River and view is great . Beside you will see Mahatma Gandhi's house and a museum showcasing various artifact. A must visit.
