We stayed here for 5 days while attending a conference. This stately home of a self made textile mogul has been reinvented as a heritage hotel. The complex is centrally located and very large and eclectic in style, with remarkably variable rooms which are huge and comfortably elegant (for example, veil draped canopy beds with fresh flowers and herbs on your pillow) and interesting nooks and crannies everywhere. often scented with flowers and incense. With photos of the founding family decking all walls, you do feel as if you are a guest in the home. The amenities are top-notch, and staff is exceptionally attentive, even for 5 star hotels in India. The two restaurants are excellent, and our full course breakfast was included. The hotel car driver was careful and solicitous, though not yet fluent so not yet a great guide. The recommended English speaking rickshaw driver, Mohammed, (98259 45393) was cheap and great fun; just riding with him in city traffic an adventure! A restaurant in the next door hotel was cheap and very good.

The only shortcomings were: noise (this is a NOISY CITY) and the lack of a facecloth, and at least in our room, only a half-length closet. Oh yes, and WiFi didn't work while we were there ("changing providers") but there was free wired internet in the room.

I don't know if prices have gone up but we paid about $800 for 5 nights plus car service plus tours

Room Tip: Ask for an INSIDE ROOM (#7 or #2)

We stayed at the House of MG for three nights and enjoyed our stay, the service, food and room. Room # 9 was large and comfortable. The food at the roof top restaurant and the Green House was very good.
Transportation by the hotel car to the airport in the middle of the night cost about $15 - quite steep for Indian standards.

This hotel is a wonderfully restored "old world" charmer. The staff are ALL very accommodating and friendly. Their driver is a treasure who got us out of a real jam. The roof top dining is a special delight that should not be missed. One of our two favorite hotels on a 5 week trip. Do stay here !!
Greenhouse restaurant looks out on the busiest intersection of the city. Great place to observe the daily life.
Excellent day tour of the old city was a real delight.

Lovely hotel that provides insights into a facet of Ahmedabad and its history. Excellent service and two delicious restaurants. Rooms v well equipped and comfortable. Good suggestions for what to do in Ahmedabad. My only issue is that as a very light sleeper, there was quite a lot of road noise in my room that could not be blocked by either the AC or the fan.

Of all the hotels i have stayed at in India (about 15 in all) this certainly rates as the best, by a long way. I have never written a review before but felt compelled to after my stay. In the hustle and bustle of Ahmedabad it was like an oasis. I stayed there at the beginning of my trip and the end. It was like a sanctuary. If only my own home was as comfortable. My room was enormous with all the conveniences. The location is good, the food is great and the staff are magnificent. Nothing was ever a bother, from booking trips to translation. (I do not speak Hindi). Will I return? Certainly.
