Review of Damdama Lake

Damdama Lake
Reviewed 14 November 2013

One of the closest natural site to Delhi. Facilities provided by the government here is good. you can enjoy here Boating, Kayaking, Rock climbing,Repelling, Spider web, Barrol crossing, Burma Bridge, Rain dance and swimming. Hot Air Balloon facilities is also available on request for group of more then 25 people.

Lake is cool, surrounded by Aravali Hills. Good to go Rainy season, starting of winter or end of the winter. Food provided by government restaurant is also good and cheap.

Do bargain with Coach for activities which he will provide or try to add some more activities or take some concession on fee.

good lake, restaurant. One can visit once so that you have a pleasurable moments. Not so developed but okay for one time visit for those people stay near by Gurgaon.

The lake is a good picnic spot specially during the winters... though the facilities need to be improved and added upon.
But just being under the sun and sitting on the grass with your friends or family makes it a good option in cities which lack open areas!

Dumduma lake raises hopes of having a serene and beautiful spot very near to Delhi NCR. It neither live up to it nor disappoint. Don't expect anything (very hard thing to do) and it pleases you. Have high hopes and you term it as waste of time. That's dumduma lake for you.

Good thing - it's really close, offers a break from routine, a economical getaway, doesn't require long weekend and elaborate planning, even offers night stay options.

Not so good - this place is not well maintained, water dries up in off season, Inadequate options, nothing much to do ( this can be blessing in disguise)

We went there in first week of August and experience nice breeze and cloud cover. It drizzled a little bit. Overall nice weather.

Getting there
By road only. I not aware of any public mode of transportation. It's 16 Kms from badshah pur crossing on Shona road I.e. approx 21 km from Rajiv Chowk on NH 8. Drive towards Sohna and round 6 Kms from badshah pur you hit Bhondsi from where you need to take left ( look for signboards). Zigzag another 10 Kms on village roads and you reach Sara's Tourist Complex maintained by Haryana Tourism. Road is largely ok except last 6 km where you find speed breakers and potholes.

Facilities & accommodation
Apart from boating, Haryana Tourism has organised 6-7 activities such as Burma bridge, net, zip line (a short version) and tree climbing. These can be availed in a package form or on per activity basis. Saras complex offer air conditioned rooms and a restaurant. Maintenance and service as per HTDC standards (not so hopeful). Food is average. We have not seen rooms, but seems like average HTDC property. Botonix is a nearby resort which is not on the lake banks but has good accommodation.
Saras has the only restaurant on lake banks and food is not great. For a picnic, pack get stuff from other restaurants in Gurgaon or get your own lunch.

All in all, good day trip or a picnic spot if you don't expect much out of it.

It is a scenic picnic spot with a water body (Damdama Lake) surrounded by the Aravalli hills. The place itself is good, but the approach is quite tough as the roads are narrow and broken in many places. Also, leave this place by 5:00pm latest, as the Locals gave a very negative and hostile vibe!
