This was not my choice basis TA ratings but a friend's recommendation who had stayed at the hotel last year with family.

There's a long list of negatives for the hotel and I just don't know where to start from.

LOCATION: If hotel's location just next to Dal lake Shikara stands is considered to be positive; the negatives would be:

1> The Shikara stands opposite to hotel are not that great, to have a better experience, we went to Shikara stands opposite The Lalit which was 5-6 kms from the hotel, there you had better view of entire lake, peace and you could actually enjoy the Shikara Ride than just making it a tick box activity.
2> Not all the rooms give view of lake only their superior overpriced rooms, we were on the first floor rooms with a side view and due to an exhibition in the next ground we barely had a view
3> This road must have been great in late 80s or early 90s, nowadays, you are struck in traffic each evening with vehicles honking, pollution, you would feel you never left your city if coming from a metropolitan.

HOTEL: The hotel provides basic amenities, provide a good enough and huge room but again it would have been great in early 90s only as they have not been maintained at all.

Food and Service: We just ate once, dinner the first night and were totally disappointed. During the remaining 2 days we only ate outside at restaurants recommended by our wonderful driver. Even the tea that gets served is cooked in bulk and you get a hot tea which never is fresh unless you are ordering at 7 AM when it is cooked fresh, mind you a cup of tea is Rs. 60/-

The staff is absolutely pathetic and show no concerns, every time you call room service, front desk or kitchen; they would just hang up on you before you even finish.

When dealing with front desk in person they would simply ignore as if you don't even exist. While I was checking out the guy was more busy in paper work than answering my queries expecting me to just leave.

Even after specifically requesting for room clearance, it was not done once we came back after 3-4 hours, the hotel staff simply lack basics. There are other hotels down the road on boulevard offering better services but I would never recommend Welcome Hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Just avoid booking here at all, please.

The location of the Hotel is excellent, with very good view from most rooms and has adequate parking for vehicles. The wi-fi worked, the rooms were better appointed and spacious for the price-band in the vicinity. However service left lot to be desired and required multiple calls to the front desk even for basic items like pillows and sending over the morning cups of tea.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Rooms were spacious. Location was very good. Food was also good. From our Bay window we could see the Dal Lake as well as the snow-caped mountain peaks. The reception people are cordial. I would like to visit the property again.

We stayed here for two nights. The hotel is just infront of beautiful dal lake. The view of the mountains and serene lakes with shikaras in it is just peaceful.
The hotel is well furnished and provides u all the services. Beds have electric heater and hot water too is provided for bathing.
They have wifi services but that us charged 100rs per 24 hours.

We stayed at the Welcome hotel as part of our Kashmir Group tour.
The hotel is nicely located on the main Boulevard Road in Srinagar which runs along Dal Lake and has numerous 'Ghats' that are the boarding points for Shikaras and ferry boats.
Accessibility is good. Lots of local handicraft, art and clothes shops at walking distance!

The hotel premises were nice and clean.
Rooms require a special mention as I found them very spacious. I do not know the actual room rent as it was part of the group booking. However, from my travel experience, it was clear that the room was quite large for the possible rent it commands.
The bed was big enough to accommodate two adults and one child under 10 years comfortably.
The bed has the heated blanket facility, which is a boon on cold nights.

Toiletries provided were soap and shampoo and both were of average quality; something that management should look to improve. Don't give 5-Star toiletries but at least decent.
The bathroom is reasonable sized with a bath tub in it.
One thing to note is about water ( I guess common problem across Kashmir, and not specifically about Welcome hotel). When you see the color of water in the bucket, you won't feel like having a bath. :) It's muddy and not very good for your hair.

I found their food to be of just about average quality. My assessment is perhaps only limited to fixed menu served to us as part of the group tour, so may not be completely accurate.
We had 4 meals and 2 breakfasts at the hotel. The breakfast fare was simply bread-butter and something else. Most meals included at least 1 Paneer preparation (Palak, Mutter, ... as additions). The deserts were fruit-custard which was below average and Gulab-Jamun which was good. So, generally nothing much to write home about for the food.

We didn't quite use the hotel service other than someone getting us an extra bath towel or folks moving our bags from bus to room and vice versa.

Overall we had a decent stay.
I would recommend travelers to compare all options and decide.
