The rooms are very dated (don't be fooled by the pictures on the website) and lack the level of cleanliness one would expect from such a hotel. We chose the two room suite with a balcony, which was the highest category of room available, and were disappointed with the quality of the room. It was quite dirty when we arrived and had to request for a change of the towels, bed-sheets and pillow covers. Furthermore, the bathroom was filthy and had some serious need of repairs (broken towel rod, toilet paper roll holder, leaking geyser pipes etc). The hotel manager and staff did attempt to attend to these issues but it did spoil our mood on arrival. Anyway we chose to stay on as it was peak season period and we lowered our expectations and reconciled to these deficiencies looking at the advantages of its location and the extra space we needed with our children.
It appears that there is a general casualness about cleanliness and room appearances in Srinagar hotels unlike what we saw in Leh or some other places in J&K. The carpets were dirty and stained (why have them if they cannot be maintained?), most of the furniture creaked and needed repairs, bathroom was quite dirty, stained (why doesn't the owner of the property visit the rooms once in a while to take a stock?). We even had a dressing table in the room with a half broken glass mirror !! The good moments in the room were sitting in the balcony and enjoying the quiet early morning tea before the Boulevard road became a noisy crowded mess and the Cafe Coffee Day outlet for takeaway/lounging over coffee and calzone.
The only good feature of this property is the wonderful location near the Dal Gate and a spacious driveway in the front. It is within walking distance to some of the sightseeing spots around the Dal Lake and has a touristy market with restaurants and departmental stores all along the Boulevard road. Another plus is a 10 minute ride in an auto to the Lal Chowk for serious shoppers.
