This hotel is situated in the heart of Srinagar. The rooms are large and spacious . BUT hot water was not available round the clock. the room service and food quality is just average . Feel the room rates are on the higher side..

this hotel is a typical Government Hotel, and i will reconfirm that Governments shouldn't run hotels. Rooms are old with carpets smelling like anything. Only rooms which are in New Block Air conditioned ones are good to stay. However Hotel has a huge parking space and is situated right in the main market; few steps away from famous Raghunath Temple.

Room Tip: rooms on higher cost, AC Rooms in new wing only. Air cooled/basic rooms are difficult to stay

Residency hotel is actually turned into a mall now. So the experience is of entering a mall with shops till three floors and the rest three floors are hotel rooms. They gave us shabby rooms and the worst was the bed. It was so so hard that I've never had such bad bed which u can never sleep. When I protested the manager said we have no other rooms. We had to be loud and clear saying that we were magazine editors and would write bad reviews for the same. So unwillingly they shifted us to a better room and better bed. Phew!!!
The bathrooms had broken glass and we had no choice but spend our night there. Bad hotel, worst experience. It's no 2 or 3 star as it may claim.

This is decent hotel, and there are some little facts you have to get nailed down & used to before and while you are there.

The hotel is quiet centrally located, having great access to the city, just off the main streets. It is part of a small mall (well can’t be compared to the big malls of the metros) having occupancy of the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors.

When I reached the hotel and took the elevators up to the reception I would be honest to say safety was my first concern, as we were visiting Kashmir after all. There is a security guard(s) at the main lobby on the ground floor, but there is no sort of barricade or doors which separate the mall from the hotel. Anyone can get access to the hotel, but as your stay increases your comfort level also increases and it was indeed a good stay.

The hotel has a very decent view overlooking a river known as a jheelum in these parts. You have to specify a room with a jheelum view in advance and obtain their confirmation as there are only a few rooms at the end of the hotel facing the Jhelum. Rest of the hotel room views is very disappointing. We had requested room with a view but were assigned other rooms though very comfortable but without the requested view. They were more than willing to change the rooms and did so. They may say the heaters on the top floor will make some noise. Believe me it’s not an issue unless you are a very and I mean very sensitive sleeper.

The room themselves are very spacious and have comfirtable beds, as we had booked Deluxe and Super Deluxe rooms. They were very conformable with bed warmers; however they did not have room heaters. It might be a lot to ask for a city which is getting itself together, however they are readily available but in short supply or in need of maintenance. You must book them in advance.

The staff is a very friendly and I would give them 12 out of 10 for the service they have delivered. For whatever was lacking in terms of room heater not working to change of rooms, they have always been ready to oblige and make up for the same.

Food - I was not too excited about the food in Kashmir, it is in generally very oily food. It would say try and keep the food simple. The hotel food is avg. but on the good side of it, they have a decent spread for breakfast. I did however like the chicken con soup.
All in all it’s a comfortable stay, though I would prefer a hotel which is not part of a mall or if they can have some sort of gates installed, that pre-apprehension however reduces as your stay increases as this is Kashmir after all.

Room Tip: Request for a Jheelum view (River facing)

The rooms were compact and the hotel was situated above a shopping complex. We could not get a River (Jhelum ) facing room which would have been better. Could not stay much in the hotel as we were mostly outside. The service was quick. Served awesome food which was a big attraction to this hotel again .

Room Tip: River (Jhelum ) facing room is a big attraction
