After a month of travel, Laika Boutique Stay came as the perfect restorative place to end our holiday. The ambience and decor is elegant and tasteful. There was lots of attention to our comfort and help with finding our way around Bangalore. All in all they are simply thoroughly nice people who exude warmth and care about there guests.

Laika was like an auntie. A helpful and caring nurturer by nature. You could feel this the moment you entered her gorgeous home. But not in an undesirable way. She was very attentive we arrived in the middle of the night during Diwali and we were walked to our room and shown around by Laika personally. The room was lovely. Our breakfast the next morning was delicious and Laika was there to get to know us and our travel plans. She helped us execute them in a much more efficient way than we would have done on our own and helped us find the old city market which was by far one of my favorite experiences. She is amazing at what she does! Do stay here if you are able to.

just a few steps from the metro but absolutely calm. Our room was perfect sized, comfortable and very well maintained. The provided Wi-Fi was really fast. Our hosts were really communicative and provided us with all sorts of interesting Facts about Bangaluru. We enjoyed our stay and the outstanding indian breakfast. Unfortunately we had to leave after only one night.
A real recommendation for Bangaluru.

Months later I still look back with such fondness on my first trip to India!! My husband was there for work for a week, and I tagged along for vacation. From the start, before we arrived, Ajith (one of the owners) answered my husband's (many) emails about our accommodations, suggestions on how to arrive from the airport and our concerns about arriving in the middle of the night. Ajith arranged a driver to pick us up from the airport and we were met by a security guard, then Ajith upon our arrival. The rooms are very clean, well maintained daily by staff, with all the amenities you could need - or you can ask, such as for the ironing board for all my wrinkled clothes. There is a lounge room on each floor that was nice to sit and enjoy the beautiful days, birds and animals hanging around. The kitchen and breakfast area are clean, well-stocked, providing more food and treats you could ever need for breakfast and even throughout the day. The hotel is slightly off from the main road, had a security guard on site 24 hours and is a beautiful building.

The next morning (Friday) we sat down to breakfast with Ajith and made a plan for the week, he arranged a van tour of Bangalore for that day to get our bearings of the city, explore and see a large portion without having to wander an unknown city. He also suggested we take an overnight trip to Mysore (Sat-Sun) to see the palace, speaking to another B&B to have us picked up from the train station and reserve a room. Our driver (on Friday) also took us to buy trains tickets for Mysore so we did not have to worry about buying and navigating the system on our own. And Ajith had given us a name of a restaurant for the driver to take us to for lunch since you do need to be careful of where you eat if you are not from India - i.e. only bottled water, stay away from old foods (may not have been stored properly) and fruits/vegetables (may have been washed in unsanitary water.

Saturday morning (and every morning) we enjoyed a delicious breakfast of Indian dishes, eating way too much and enjoying the outrageously juicy mangoes and papayas picked fresh from the trees outside!! We learned more about Ajith & Laika, the boutique, the city and found we were the only guests for the week. We enjoyed hearing about past and present life in Bangalore for this family, and having such an intimate experience of being the only guests and receiving individualized attention.

Then we were off to the train driven by our driver form the day before, again arranged by Ajith. The train provided food, was air conditioned and had great views during the trip. Once in Mysore, our driver quickly found us and we took our first ride in a rickshaw, which was super fun! The B&B again had no other guests (apparently June is the off-season) and we immediately sat down to tea with the owner, manager and driver to plan out weekend - separate review for that under "Mysore Bed and Breakfast."

We came back to Laika Boutique on late Sunday evening and spent quite some time in the front lounge room having beer and chatting with Ajith, about Mysore, our lives and listening to his many stories. It became pretty late and we realized we had not yet eaten dinner, having little knowledge of operating hours of restaurants or knowing where they are we did not know where we would eat, but Ajith knew!! We hopped in his car and he took us to a traditional Southern Indian restaurant where we experienced food with amazing flavor placed on a large palm leaf and Ajith explained what the food was, how to eat it and what flavors go best together. Despite being so full, afterwards Ajith took us to an ice cream shop for dessert!! I was amazed that so many places we still open late in the evening (10pm-ish?).

Monday - Wednesday the husband woke early, was given breakfast and provided help on how to get to his workplace. I enjoyed sleeping in, taking my time getting ready and was still given breakfast at 10 and 11am each day. It was Ajith and I who would eat together, then decide what to do that day - he was a my personal tour guide each day, as he and the husband did not want me travelling alone. Plus I secretly think we bonded and became quite the pair - shopping, sightseeing, going to museums, enjoying afternoon tea/coffee with treats, learning about Indian culture, hearing about Ajith's life and family and more. It was those days, eating lunch, sometimes sitting in silence taking in the sights and sounds of Bangalore, listening to him talk about the meaning of figurines, paintings, deities, the history of the city and more that really made the trip special for me. I am indebted to Ajith for more than being a great host, but for being a great friend. In the evenings, the husband would join us, we'd spend hours talking in the front room over drinks and sometimes dinner.

On Thursday, our last full day in India, Ajith had arranged for me to have mehndi (aka henna) done on my hands - this was quite a process, it is not as common or easy to find someone to do it for a person. But he was relentless, knowing that I really wanted to have this beautiful artwork placed on my hands commemorating my time in Bangalore. The women did an amazing job and told me stories about their lives in Bangalore, I loved learning about the people of Bangalore, their history and personal stories. That evening we again found ourselves chatting late into the evening with Ajith soaking in as much of the city, the boutique, their lives and getting to know our new friend before we left. Then in the wee hours of the morning, we packed and said our somewhat sad goodbyes.

Sadly, Laika was attending to her son who became very ill during our stay so we did not have as much time with her but Ajith clearly took good care of us and thankfully their son recovered.

After two weeks travelling in Sri Lanka, our one night stay at Laika was perfect. Attention to detail was apparent from the start. We arrived at about 10pm, our check in was quick and easy which we appreciated at that hour. The room was very clean and comfortable - everything we wanted (just like home) was available - charming decor, comfortable bed, two soft pillows each! Breakfast was delicious and served by the friendly, interesting proprietors. We were sorry to be moving on so soon.

Room Tip: A small hotel in a quiet setting, so I think all rooms would be great.

Terrific B & B in the heart of Bangalore. Just off MG road, Laika's is situated on a quiet cul de sac, but is close to shopping, eateries and coffee shops as well as the subway. Rooms are of ample size, with nice amenities, cable tv, etc. Breakfast is a casual, friendly affair - both western (cereal, eggs & toast) and Indian food are on offer. Hosts Laika and Ajith are what really make this place special - longtime residents of the area, they are a wealth of information regarding local sightseeing, shopping options, etc. They can also arrange excursions further afield for those interested on venturing out into the countryside.  Laika was enormously helpful when we had to seek minor medical help, arranging a visit to a local doctor. This is a place folks return to again and again, both for the great location as well as the warm familial ambiance. Overall one of the best most memorable places we have stayed in India - cannot recommend enough!

I was made very welcome - checking in very early, at 7am of the day of my booking, and the Landlady cooked me breakfast!
The rooms are clean and the place is nice and quiet after the buzz of the town. I would definitely stay there again. It's good value from a European point of view, although my Indian friends would have thought it pricey for a B&B. I thought it was worth it:)
