About 10 kms from the Art of living Center. Very quiet and nice place. Spread over more than 10 acres. Lot of greenery in the farm. We were 17 of us, for a day outing (8am to 6pm). The entire place was given to us, including the two rooms. There were chairs, a lawn, a small bridge sort of, tortoise, rabbits, goats and lots of plants and trees - medicinal, vegetables, fruits.
Varun (the owner) came for breakfast and gave us some gyan on the various plants in the farm (Civil Engineer but has very good knowledge of the plants grown and farming). He also took us to a nearby lake (abput 5 kms to and fro, walking). It was a big lake with enough water, but spoilt by visitors with litter around the lake.
Cricket bat, ball, frisbee, badminton racket and plastic shuttle, junga were available which we used extensively (no charges).
There are some caretakers staying in the farm. They were very helpful.
Was part of the deal - Breakfast, lunch, hi tea (all vegetarian). Some Karnataka specials like Thatta idly, fresh chutney from the farm, Holige... Varun had arranged the same and it was delivered. The food was good and tasty. He also gave us some home made sweet (very nice). There were also stocks of juices, biscuits, chips etc at the farm. One had to pay for the same (MRP).
The host (Varun):
Excellent host. Waited for everyone to arrive before taking us around. Gave us some special home made sweet. Always smiling. Made our day.
What did we do:
Eat, walk to the lake, played cricket, badminton, frisbee, junga, anatakshari, lazed around...
Enjoyed the day complete. The weather was cloudy and breezy.
The good part - Prakruti farms is good for those who don't want to travel too far from Bangalore. It has a good farm area and a one bedroom, hall, and small kitchen and outdoor seating place. It just half hour from city limits. A very quiet place with a very low mobile network and no TV. You can disconnect yourself from the city very quickly. The owner has kept good indoor and outdoor games. They also do barbeque setup and bonfire as part of the basic package. There is cooking gas, refrigerator, microwave, don't remember if there was a mixer. Hot water geyser is available, but owner needs to change the shower fitting, it's too close to the taps :-)
Now the not so good part - be ready to get your food, or cook your self, or order from the market that is 4 km away. The caretaker may or may not get it for you. The TripAdvisor page says that there will be farm grown veggies and fruits for you to cook, but that is not the case- there is neither. There may or may not be other basic things like rice, dal, tea, coffee powder, masalas, it depends on your luck. There were only instant packaged foods available, like noodles, juices, biscuits, that too chargeable. The caretaker has resistance to cook even if you pay him but he will get anything from the market that you need. Also, the breakfast which is included in the package had no tea or coffee. Even after asking we were told it is not served. Basically, we felt like we had rented a place, we weren't hosted as guests. So, I guess more suitable for bachelors. For the package rate, I would expect good fresh cooked food served for lunch and dinner.
Prakruti farm has nature in its name itself. It is just an hour's drive from Bangalore, yet quiet and beautiful. Perfect getaway from city life. It is green, pleasing for the eye, apt for a family stay or a weekend holiday or small parties; excellent for the nature lovers. The farm house is well maintained, it has a small well-equipped kitchen. Quite a few indoor and outdoor games are there. A serene lake is closeby at a walking distance. I would love to visit again.
This place has everything you need to take a relaxing break in a peaceful, green environment. First of all, the tender coconuts on this organic farm are by far the sweetest I have ever had in my life - and I've had a lot both in India and in South America. The "food forest" has a little bit of everything growing in it, and truly bears the fruits of labors of love. The owners are a passionate, ecologically conscious family.
The lodging is cozy and great for a couple or even several friends who wouldn't mind crashing on the sofas. The kitchen has a water purifier and is fully equipped for cooking, should you feel so inclined. The place is really homey and comfortable.
The patio is partly shaded, and great to eat meals or spend time under a bamboo roof while gazing into the greenery.
You can take a meandering walk through the entire farm and visit the animals - they have cows and some hens, and a pair of adorable golden retrievers. Within a 30min walk from the farm is a large lake with beautiful views.
I look forward to visiting again - I would recommend this for anyone who wants to spend quality time with family or on their own - an ideal writer's retreat. However, bring your own wireless hotspot (if you need it), the farm does not yet have wifi available.
Bring your insect repellent, sunscreen, lawn games and good tunes for a few days of chillaxing!
