“Overpriced and room rate suddenly pushed up”
Reviewed 26 December 2010

The hotel is overpriced compared to Melange Astris which is around similar rate but great. We were told the room rate was 4500 rupees per night and when we checked out it became 6000 rupees per night. Also get the rates in writing or chose other hotels which offer better rates and better class off peak. We will not be going there again.

I am very sorry to read your negative review. We pride ourself on transparency and honesty with all our clients. As a boutique hotel, we find that this is a necessity for survival. We would never up-charge a customer or increase our rate. We do state clearly upon booking that there is a mandatory luxury tax and service charge imposed by the government. This is the case for all Bangalore hotels. If you would like to discuss further please feel free to email me and we will do everything in our power to rectify any miscommunication or to make your outlook on the Puprle Lotus a positive one: krupa@purplelotus.in .

Thank you,

Our first night in India after a long trip, and we couldn't have been happier. A really lovely, spacious room with everything you could possibly ask for. Great staff who don't fuss or fawn, but are always there when you need them. Breakfast was good - my husband chose the free continental, I chose the very nice Indian cooked for a tiny price. Absolutely fantastic location close to everything but extremely quiet, this boutique hotel has a lot to be proud of. We would definitely stay again if ever in Bangalore. It was just perfect!

This modern and stylish boutique hotel is a haven of tranquillity and well-being worth every cent. We stayed two nights in October 2010 and much appreciated its open architecture, great style and very friendly and helpful staff. We loved it, just go and experience it!

After staying in a not so nice place, my partner and I were desperate to find a clean comfortable environment to stay for 11 days. We read Tripadvisor comments and gave it a shot. We absolutely loved everything about this hotel. Everyone was friendly and helpful and so lovely. We felt so comfortable and welcome at Purple Lotus. All staff are happy to help you with your stupid touristy questions and I would deffinately come back here if I was to return to Bangalore. Fair enough people write the breakfast is so so- perhaps they could work on that, but we didn't get fussed over it because some plain toast and coffee and a nice way to start our day after so many curries and spices. Don't let the breakfast be a turn away point- there are plenty of nice cafes very close by.

Loved this Hotel. Very big rooms. Modern. Clean. Perfect service. Very good location. Quiet, but close to shopping area. Very helpful and nice staff. Nice dining area. Breakfast could be better and have more variety. Yoga room available, also training. Roof terrace, with possibilty to dine up there. Nice view. Free wireless LAN. I would always come back again. Bangalore is a good place in India for travelling alone.

A large group of us stayed at the Purple Lotus to attend a wedding. It was close to the centre - 5 minute walk if you can cope with the traffic - but the location was wonderfully quiet. Rooms were large and well furnished with good bathrooms. Breakfast was very basic continental style but you could order cooked Indian fare at an extra charge - not dear and good value. I would recommend the masala dossa. We had the rooftop terrace to ourselves and the hotel were able to rusttle up a supply of Kingfisher lager. Overall a very good experience.

First of all, I am in Bangalore area about 60 days a year. I know Indian hotel standard in that range of price quite well and I know the difference compare to American or Europe standards.
I want to be hard in my description and I think I have some reasons. First of them is a bit shady fact, that this very new hotel (according to the staff declaration Purple Lotus appeared on the Bangalore map 2 years ago) is so adored by so many visitors. What more? Almost all of them point excellent service and give without any doubt 5 stars mark. Well..

Let's go to facts:
1. Location - if somebody knows Bangalore it is indeed great location - 10 minutes walk from MG Road and about 20 minutes from Commercial Street and Brigadier Street. It means we are close to the center of the center. Against the location testifies fact, that no one taxi driver knows Purple Lotus - it is hided in the end of the blind street without any name. It is very small hotel indeed. Somebody who is first time in Bangalore may experience a problem with finding way back to the hotel if take a walk to the center. But in fact, it is great location since no permanent Indian vehicle horns are heard here.
2. Service - is great. All Indian hotels usually have very helpful staff and Purple Lotus is not an exception. People in reception are brave enough to get closer contact with guests and I appreciate it. Take a chat!
3. Rooms are excellent - spacious and well equipped with kitchen facilities. Beds are comfortable, flat screen TV with wide range of programs, very well working wi-fi. Bathroom cosmetics are really good quality and smell superb. No insects and mosquitoes but I would prefer that fan opening has a mosquito net as a protection. AC and fridge is a standard.
4. Food. Breakfast is as humble as can be - some fruits, toasts, marmalade, cereals, milk, tea, coffee. Any warm food as masala omelet (Indian stock) must be paid additional. Dinners are prepared in the local kitchen. Waiting time up to 40 minutes and menu card is rather short. Kitchen itself is not the best in the town - try Museum Inn Hotel top terrace restaurant and you will know what I mean ;). It is only 10 minutes from. Veg food is also very fat. Could be a problem for many.

Purple Lotus is an invest of former Indian prominent politician. I think he knew world and hotel standards out of India. His hotel is touched by Western ideas. It is what I mean a bit means a lot. Most of Indian hotels shinning with few great, outstanding features having also miserly details. Purple Lotus luckily avoids most of disadvantages I have seen in many other Indian hotels. And this fact makes Purple Lotus nice place to be there. Unfortunately, there is no blooming night life since only 24 rooms are in service. If you like very quiet place the hotel is for you. I give Purple Lotus only 3 start mark. Why? I think so many sweat opinions need counterweight. And, what should be a kind of compliment, I give these 3 stars in relation to Western standards. Purple Lotus is in the world class in the price range.
