Galibore Nature Camp
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 22 May 2014

Had a good stay at Galibore fishing camp as part of a team trip from our company during July 2010 (Just writing the review now as I am off to another Jungle lodge this weekend).

Like other Jungle lodges, the prices are high on this place as well for the service and food you get. But what makes it a good place is due to the action packed team building activities you can manage here varying from river rafting, off-roading, trekking etc - never tried fishing.

But again, it's good for ONE day and after that it can get really boring with the same routine repeating. I don't think this is the best Jungle lodge out there but definitely one of the best for rafting.

Galibore is surrounded by huge Terminalia Arjuna trees, and the river cuts through in the front, which is bounded by hills on each side. It is a nature lovers’ spot. It is a fishing camp. You may come across herd of elephants near the bank of the river. It is about 16 km away from Bheemeshwari. Bheemeshwari is about 90Kms from Bangalore via Kanakapura and Sathanur. From Bangalore you can drive Via Kanakapura or via Ramanagaram.

This was my 2nd day trip to Galibore, a typical JLR property. The camp is located, far away from the maddening crowd, deep in the deciduous forests about 10kms from Sangam, on the banks of River Cauvery. The journey is very exciting as the scenery around the place was simply superb, and we took breaks to admire nature’s canvas. Once you reach the resort, you can admire nature in its purest form and the only sounds breaking the silence were the whistling of the wind, flowing water and chirping of birds. We started our day's activity with a dip in the river water (we had to walk along the river bank to upstream to avoid crocodiles and whirlpools) followed by stupendous lunch. We relaxed for some time in the camp (hammocks/sand) and then started on our coracle ride. The ride is took us almost 4kms along the river stream, where we saw 4 crocodiles bathing sunshine along the banks. This was followed by a high tea and snacks and we started back from the camp. Its advisable to go in groups to enjoy the most. We went there in a group of 10.
This place is highly recommended for all nature lovers.

We had a very good stay here. The staff were very courteous and helpful. We enjoyed a good swim in the water and enjoyed a nice coracle ride. Must visit place to unwind and relax on the hammocks. My family and two young kids (<3yrs) enjoyed it too....

The rooms are nice, there a large play area , ideal for big groups. The coracle ride is good , staff is very courteous. Only problem is the price , JLR has monopoly and overcharges visitors. The price with tax is much higher than what is shown on the website.

Journey from Bangalore was smooth, though Kanakapura Road is full of aggressively driven heavy vehicles. Last 9 kms from Sangama till the camp is really a jeep road and took us 30 mts to cover in a small city car. They should invest more in the road. The camp was typical Jungle Lodges. We were greeted and the day's program explained to us. The welcome drink was a tiny glass of lime juice.

First up was a trek along the river bank. The 'trained naturalist' took us straight to the river, and suggest that we wade in and sit on a rock. This proved an excellent suggestion and we were able to take in the river sweeping around us and the surrounding hills. Very soothing. About half hour later, we were lead straight back to the camp. No effort was made to make the walk interesting or picturesque. In fact, it was a walk to the river and not a nature walk on the banks as promised. Lunch was typical Jungle Lodges fare, with the addition of locally caught fish. Delicious... We then lazed in hammocks waiting for the next activity - the coracle ride.

Off we went in a while. Like the nature walk, this was a disappointment. There was nothing really to see except the river itself. Very little effort was made by the same 'trained naturalist' to explain the flora or fauna. He just wanted to get it over with. We were promised an hour long ride, but it was just 35 mts and then a jeep ride back to camp. At around 5 p.m., we were politely told to leave as it was time to close the gates.

Overall, not a bad place, but there are plenty of Jungle Lodges properties that are prettier. The best you can do is to find a cozy spot and make your own arrangements. The staff are lethargic and not keen on making the experience special. That's our verdict.

It was wonderful experience to spend a day at jlr in Galibore. We did not stay overnight but thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality of the staff members. They were very courteous helpful and had good knowledge about birds and animals found in and the forest area. We enjoyed food too.
