Reviewed 13 July 2011

I had been with my friends .it was last minute planned as we were nt given booking in muthodi forest guest house for anothr day so wecald up tex woods & they gave us the rooms. The rooms were gud and th swimming pool is ready .the road to reach there is thrugh the forest road for which they send there jeeps to pick us. The food is good and i should mention about Hanumanthu all in all in ths place . The owners where considerate as we whr sort of cash and no atms near by they told us to depoist to there account. Overall a good home stay i would recomend it for a weekend break.

After reading the reviews on the net I thought the place is going to be bad but still we decided to go as it had a swimming pool... after visiting I would say the place is good. The place is amidst coffee plantations so we need to take 5 km drive to the resort by jeep on mud paths... There are no concrete roads but that is what makes the experience unique... A good view from the hill top and you can constantly hear the birds chirping (especially peacock). The rooms are basic but good enough for the price you pay.
The best part of the trip was the visit to the water falls - a 15 minute jeep drive and a 15 minute trek to see a small waterfall, which is secluded and clean. The sunlight falling along the waterfall, surrounded by trees and playing in the chill water was amazing. But this place is not good when you have aged people with you.
Swimming pool is not the cleanest but you can have a good view of the sunset from the pool. Electricity keeps going off and mobile network coverage is not that good (I kind of liked it ;) )... Vegetarian food is not good but the non-veg food was good.
For a 2 day stay this place was fine. Just don’t expect some extraordinary things to do and see...

It was not a great outing, activities mentioned in the websites hardly exists, swimming pool which is shown in the website is probably from some other places, its not at all as its shown in the pictures, it has got lot of broken tiles and no water in it. when we asked them to fill the water in the pool, they started but it was not even half filled by the time we checked out from the place. The mention of bar-be-que was a joke for us, it never existed. the even camp fire was a fire to pile of wood on the pathway/entrance near the gate where their vehicles are parked. Food was bad and way too spicy, definite to get a heart burn. To add to it when we went to have dinner at 10pm, there wasn't any curries left when asked they gave us some plain grated carrot. The meaning of trekking for them is probably walk in the 400 acres of coffee plantation. The alcohol charges are sky high, 70-80% more on the MRP. Coming to other outdoor activities is carom where the board was in a bad condition. shuttle badminton had no court at all, was supposed to be played in the coffee beans processing area.

Its about 285 KM from Bangalore. Road is rough in parts. You have to park you car below at a hutment in the reserve forest and take the hotel jeep up for the last 5/7 KM. Backbreaking!

The view is fantastic once you are up there though. Its a home stay and not a resort at all. Very basic. Hot and cold water works but little else. The caretakers Mamta and gang do their best and rustle up good south Indian food.

Pool is broken down paddle pond and usually never has water in it. They suggest treks. Go prepared as the same can be rough. Our group could not reach the waterfall as the jungle track was closed owing to a land slide. We all had huge amount of leach bite and nothing else to show for it.

They write of Tex Woods as a resort but it nothing but a homestay with a swimming pool.We have stayed at homestays before and the food here was bad compared any other homestay. The bathrooms are dark and very small. The view from Tex woods is really good but most of the rooms have no views at all! The complimentary bar-b-q they offered us was a joke .Chikamagalur is wonderful place to go otherwise.

Very Nice place to stay, with nice people & very hospitable, the rooms & bathrooms should be cleaned on a daily basis which did not happen during our stay. The olnly advise to people is to fill up their fuel tanks at chikmagalur before going to TEXWOODS.
The food was very very homly & a Special mention to Mamta & Satya - They are always smiling & willing to do their bit. Thanks
