We just had the lucky fortune of stumbling upon woodway. It’s a quiet quaint getaway tucked away in the hills of chickmagalur.
What was impressive is how well decorated the house was and how easily and comfortably it accommodated all 26 of us!
Relaxing in the hammock by the gorgeously landscaped gardens was my day’s favorite activity.
For nature enthusiasts there are several hiking challenges in the peaks close by.
The friendly staff were forever enthusiastic to help and cooked up sumptuous mangalorian specialities.
Not only was the climate pleasantly cool in the peak of karnataka’s summer, we actually found ourselves cozying around a bonfire in the nights.
It’s a home away from home!

Room Tip: all the rooms were very comfortable. there is also a dormitorytype accomodation available.

This was my second visit to Chikmaglur in short-span of 2 months - couple of months back I had stayed in Cofeebean Homestay in Mallandur. This homestay is on the way to Mallandur. The access to the estate is good tarred road, the estate is big, clean in the middle of a massive estate. It has all the ingredients required to make it a good homestay.

The hospitality was something that could be better - the owners don't live there. They do live nearby and visit every day and are very warm and friendly. They are highly knowledgeable and share their plantation experiences to a great detail. Conversations with them were enlightening.

It took us a while to get milk for our son in the morning. Food timings are little late - usually families with kids eat early, or atleast the kids eat early.

In the absence of owners, atleast there should be a seasoned experienced manager onsite, atleast in peak season With 5-6 families with kids simultaneously left to the disposal of the kitchen staff, it becomes messy. Nevertheless, the kitchen staff did their best to service. I felt having a manager would have helped.

I did not feel it was worth the money.

Room Tip: The front room has a good garden view but less privacy.

We went during the Ugadi weekend. First thing that struck me was there was no one around to welcome us, in fact no one was around on the day we left too. The owners do not stay there but as part of the homestay experience, I expected someone to be around and was disappointed. A homestay would have felt better to actually have the host around to make you feel welcomed. We were out of toilet paper the 2nd day n the staff could not replenish it as the supplies room was locked and the owner did not turn up that evening. The owners, when we did meet them, came across as very friendly and thoughtful people.
Food was based mostly on the local cuisine, while it was not bad, as a vegetarian I was pretty much bored of it by the 2nd day. For what was served, the rate for me was on the higher side. My husband enjoyed the non veg dishes.
The whole place is very well maintained. Being located in the midst of nature, the place has its charm though most of it was lost on us on those 2 hot summer days. Perhaps it would be a better choice for a winter trip. The house has been maintained well. If you are a couple with kids and want a quick break just hanging around doing nothing this might be the place for you. As for me n my hubby, we got bored. There's not much to do within the property other than to visit the coffee plantation.

We stayed at Wood ways very recently and my humble and sincere request to all travellers would be portray the correct picture. After reading the review we booked immediatley and the good pointers are location is close to many must see places and people manning the resort are very nice and helpful. A few suggestions would be 1) the workers who interact with the visitors should be dressed a tad neat 2) the food area lack hygeine since all there times ie: Lunch, Dinner or Break-fast, we found flies and many times on the food 3)The rest rooms are old and need to be renovated (U get drenched by the health faucet since it does not stop), last but not the least - for the given conditions or otherwise, the rate charged is very high. This is issued without any prejuduice and in the best interest of travellers. Best Regards

After going through multiple travel advisory sites and reading hoards of reviews and after much dilly-dallying for 2 weeks we finally made it to Woodway HomeStay. We were not disappointed by our choice.
The WoodWay Home Stay is Located not so far from the Chikmagalur town, but far enough to enjoy the solitude. Ancestral home converted to a homestay ,the accommodation inside the big bungalow is flawless, Immaculately clean and tidy.
the setting is very calm, peaceful and scenic with a small library/games area, separate outdoor covered dining area, hammock, Swing and a sprawling Lawn. Great place for unwinding and tend to your unravelled city nerves.
The tasty vegetarian food was delicious, plentiful and varied, The trek to Bandekallu Gudda was well worth the climb, The staff is incredibly nice, warm and genuine and I would like to specifically mention Mr.Sridhar, as his personal attention to service is top notch.
What makes this homestay exceptional is the genuine warmth and hospitality which the host family exudes. You will just love every aspect of your visit here. This was one of my most relaxing trip for three days with my wife and 2 kids.

We have been planning to spend quality time together with all the family members and wanted a home away from home. Woodway seemed just right as I had visited this place before. So 13 of us with 5 kids of varying age group stayed at Woodway for 2 nights. It was truly a refreshing experience and all of us got what we wanted. Kids had fun, playing indoor and outdoor games. Adults had relaxing time playing with kids, sleeping and reading. We trekked to 'Bandekal Gudda' and felt on top of the world. The view of Sahyadri mountain range is breath taking. Food was delicious and we kept gorging. Coffee was the highlight of the trip, we would wait for the coffee time to relish the aroma and taste! The most memorable part was bonfire where we hogged on hot 'bajji' and sang to our heart's content.

The decor is tastefully done by Sushmita (Shreedev's wife). Shreedev and Sushmita ensured we had a memorable stay. The staff members are very friendly and cooperative. The view from the house is scenic and picture perfect. We had a wonderful time and hope to come back to recharge our batteries.

We stayed here for our honeymoon in March 2012. What can I say?..Royal hospitality and amazing food. You will come to know how a fresh food will taste. Hospitality of the staff and the estate owners are unmatched. They will make you think you are a king/queen for the period you stay. The ambience is great. We loved the red oxide floors, antique sofas and furniture. The house is very well maintained. Coffee plantation trip was a great adventure. Don't forget to trek to a nearby hill for a great sunset view. Its a great place for the honeymooners and solitude lovers. My only gripe is its slightly expensive but for us it was worth it. After our stay, estate owners took time to call and ask about our experience. Great people and exemplary hospitality.
