The staff is very helpful and courteous and every small requirement is fulfilled within no time of asking for it.
The rooms are spacious and the house keeping is good .if you want a room with a view opt fora fourth floor or fifth floor room river facing ie 402,404,and 406.however during the day the noise level in these rooms is high as they are adjacent to the road. If you want peace and quiet and no view then take the pool facing room.
The breakfast spread is good as is the dinner buffet . Room service is efficient and food was hot when served in the room.the staff takes good care and we're prompt even in clearing the plates after a meal in the room .
The laundry service is also good and even if you asked for same day service at 12 in the noon they delivered the clothes by 7 at no extra charge.
Mr Nirmal Kumar the GM is leading a very good hospitality team and is moving around the hotel and approachable. The front desk was helpful and would even pull out photocopies required for our work which saved us the trouble of looking around for these small tasks .
The only negative for the hotel was the use of melamine /plastic soup bowls and cutlery especially forks which had mangled teeth and were awkward to use .Also water /juice glasses were substandard .
Overall a good place to stay.

Room Tip: River view rooms are on 4 and 5 floor but with traffic noise pool facing rooms with no view are much quieter. However I enjoyed the view of the river and ignored the noise .

We stayed at the hotel from 1st March to 2nd March, the hotel staff were extremely courtesy in offering us a late checkout from the Hotel. Hotel room is extremely clean and big enough for 2. The Bathrooms are clean and big enough. The Breakfast is good, so is the food at the restaurant, we ate the most delicious Aloo Paratha at the hotel.

Swimming pool is clean and big, the steam and Jacuzzi are also great we had a wonderful time. Only thing which is not that great are the Lifts which is very old and scary.

On the Whole it was a wonderful experience at the hotel i would definitely come back and stay at the hotel

This hotel deserves a 5-star rating due to its fantastic staff. From the moment one enters the premises, past the friendly security personnel to the charming and efficient ladies at the reception, as well as all the other helpful lobby staff, and further when ordering food from the room service or in the restaurant, one is astounded by the unfailing friendliness, politeness and keen attentiveness of the employees. Obviously, they are very well-trained.

There is not much to see or do in Mangalore (apart from splurging on great South Indian food), but I will make it a point to stay a few days at the hotel whenever I’m on a visit to India - simply to enjoy the great hospitality at the Gateway. As a travel writer, I stay in hotels for at least six months per year, and I think I can tell a good and well-run hotel from a bad one - usually, hotels with this high level of service are much more expensive. This must be one of the very best deals the well-reputed Taj group, owner of the property, has to offer. Ah yes, and the rooms are very cozy and nicely furnished – including flat-screen TV and writing desk - and are kept meticulously clean by the quietly and diligently working housekeeping staff. The ‘hardware’ is the fairly regular 4-star set-up not dissimilar to other equivalent hotels; but it’s the staff, which makes this hotel an excellent choice.

And the perfect service doesn’t end with the stay at the hotel: Just as one has checked out, leaving in a hurry for the airport, here comes the friendly Taj airport representative, even assisting with the airport check-in, completing the overwhelmingly warm hospitality experience. In short: highly recommended.

Room Tip: Light sleepers are advised to take a room facing the garden, away from the road.

Warm and helpful staff. Centrally located, 5 minutes from Corporation Bank's HQ. Could see the sea from the room by straining the neck a bit. The yoga mat in the room is a very good touch and useful.

The concierge can help you order a local taxi drop to the airport, at a third of the hotel's own rate.

Lift is from the 80s, but rooms have been renovated and meet with the Taj standard.

The only grouse was the machine noise that seemed to come from the roof early in the morning. Not sure whether it was part of the hotel's a/c unit, but it was quite prominent and long-lasting.
