Spent December 27 - 30 at Heritage Hotel. It was surreal from a service stand point. We were 3 women and 2 girls in 3 separate rooms. The facilities were adequate with the exception of one shower which sprayed water all over the entire bathroom. The Hotel Manager was beyond rude. He yelled at one of us and mimicked everything we said like a parrot. He walked into one room and started thumbing through books and things on the night stand while the guest (me) just stood there nervously waiting for him to leave. On our final night, we returned to the hotel after 9:00pm with both girls sleeping. He insisted that one room move to a different room for no apparent reason. He stood and watched the woman struggle to pack and move the luggage while her daughter slept. It was crazy. It was our firm belief that the manager was on drugs or out of his mind. The room came with breakfast, which we only enjoyed on one morning. We requested fresh fruit and were charged for the fruit. The hotel is poorly located and requires a long taxi ride from all the sites of Fort Kochin. On the second day the Manager refused to allow us to use the hotel's guest computer. The wi/fi was not working the entire time. There was a horrible dog parking incessantly all night and all morning.

Beautiful heritage house with spacious rooms and a nice long bed (a relief for anyone over 6" who's travelled in India). Best shower in India. Our bathroom door squeaked but was repaired <5mins after we reported it. Rooms are clean and well presented with lots of little freebies like shampoos, shoe cleaning kit, razor etc.
Lovely lawn area looking out over chinese fishing nets. Great to sit and watch with a beer (120Rs) or a thimble (60ml) full of wine (200Rs).
Great food. Try some of the Kumbalangi specials. Very tasty and surprisingly inexpensive.
The pool was out of action when we arrived, which was one of the reasons we decided to stay here. Also the hotel was booked for a function which spread through all public areas and made us feel like we shouldn't be there. Should be a separate function room for this.

The main downside of this hotel is it's location. For anyone using public transport there is a bus from Fort Cochin that will take you to it, but it's very busy and difficult to get off in the right place. A tuk tuk is around 250 rupees.

Room Tip: 102 is quite close to the road and can be noisy in the morning. The window shades also let in a lot...

We just stayed in this hotel, and although it had a nice-looking facade next to the backwaters, our overall experience was less than pleasant for the following reasons:

1) Lack of information: it is usual to inform incoming guests about the times of breakfast, etc., and facilities, but the information was not forthcoming. We had to ask about this ourselves which led to several problems listed below.

2) Poor English: except for one guy who we (thankfully) met on the final day, the level of English was below average, leading to confusion and frustration on our behalf as straightforward questions were left unanswered. Case in point: we wanted to find out the finishing time of breakfast but the guy kept on telling us the start time only. After a few attempts we gave up. Also, we wanted to do some laundry but it was unclear about how we should pick it up. Overall this left us feeling very anxious about the taxi to the airport as we couldn't be sure if what we had conveyed had been understood.

3) Cleaning the room: they only have one key per room! Or so it appears. During checkin, the lady there informed us that it was our choice as to whether we held on to the key or not. However, the vital piece of information missing in this discourse was that, in order for the housekeeping to clean your room, they needed the key to be handed in. When we returned from our day trip of Kochi, we fully expected the room to be neat and tidy, but to our despair it had not been touched. When we asked if they could do it at that time (around 7pm), they answered "no" as the housekeeping had gone home. Very unsatisfactory. Worse was to follow. Even on one of the days when we handed in the key, they failed to clean our room. We stayed 4 nights and the room only got cleaned once. Due to this, we had to keep on asking them for toilet roll, shampoo, soap, towels, etc., as these things had not been replenished.

4) Shower not working properly: the shower head was spraying water right, left and centre, and not in the internationally-accepted direction of straight down. Also, we never had a warm shower there - not excruciatingly cold, but definitely not pleasant.

Overall the hotel could be improved big time with a few minor adjustments as the hotel itself is well maintained and the restaurant food and staff are both very good.

Very much suggested if you are looking for an off the beaten path, but high quality property. Its a 15 minute ride from Fort Cochin but its quite and the service is excellent. They only have a few rooms, and the food is very good!

Room Tip: Room 107 did not have an ac remote, so the ac was on high at all time, 107 has direct access to the...

We were attending a conference in the Cochin area, and this small hotel was recommended as near the retreat center and affordable. We were very comfortable here and found the staff friendly and eager to make our stay a pleasant one. The air conditioning was efficient and cooled the bedroom down quickly each night when we returned. We were in the suite with its own sitting room and that had advantages in that there was a sitting room, a large bedroom with a raised bed, a larger bathroom, a separate dressing area, etc. (There was a ceiling fan in the sitting room but no AC, so we didn't use it much during our stay.) Guests may hear some noise from the bar when staying in this room but it wasn't a big problem for us. The hotel was very clean.

We loved being able to look out on the Chinese fishing nets on the backwaters and spot various birds as we ate our breakfast and dinner each day. The food was very good and the staff helped us find dishes that we would enjoy. I have to avoid spicy dishes and found plenty of good options on the menu. My husband was looking forward to trying a variety of spicy dishes, and he was happy with what he ordered as well. We both stayed healthy throughout our trip, ordering cold bottle water with our meals and taking that with us on our daily excursions.

We would happily return here on our next visit to Cochin, but might opt for one of the deluxe rooms (rather than the suite) so that we had a bit more of a view.

It was altogether an "OK" experience, except for the disturbance ( talks n TV noise) from somewhere beneath the Suite room, when complained, they said, its from the BAR which belongs to the resort owner themselves. Suite room failed to provide hot water too, they couldn't fix it till we left. And above all, the view from the suite room was much worse, as it over looked the public road nearby and nothing pleasant to see out of it.

Room Tip: Avoid suite room

After a night in a small, noisy sweat box in a cheap hotel in Fort Kochi I found Hotel Heritage Methanam on Hotels.com. I immediately changed hotels for thje better!
Hotel Methanam is about 16 kilometres out of Fort Kochi; 150 -200 rupees in a rickshaw.
It was perfect - big room with high ceiling and heritage surrounds. A great bed tops off the comfort. There is a small pool in which you can cool off whilst looking at old Chinese fishing nets in the waters near the hotel. The staff are very friendly and the hotel restaurant provides tasty dishes - especially local fish curries. It provided me with a comfortable, friendly and cool last 2 nights in South India.
