It's always great to stay in a place that oozes history or has a certain feel of the past. Victory Dawn has exactly this. The location is just perfect: a street walk from the Chinese nets and the ancient churches and busy restaurants and bars. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the breakfast and the service was impeccable. I'd recommend this place to anyone staying in Kochi.

I was charmed by the colonial bunglow look of this property and its location on a quiet street away from the beach.

I made my booking through online agent.

We were warmly received by the manager of the property Mr. Vasanth upon arrival. Check in was swift and the rooms were well prepared for us. We had booked three rooms hence had the entire upper floor at our disposal. High ceilings, huge rooms, huge bathrooms with modern and functional sanitary fittings make this place outstanding. The ACs in the room are strong enough to cool rooms of this size. Complementary water bottle and dried mago and jackfruit slices are a nice touch. Hygeine is at a high level.

Mr. Vasanth the Manager, is one of the biggest assets of this hotel. He gave us a detailed briefing on the attractions in the city without ever mentioning any agent or service provider. On our first night a new night duty manager was joining. Mr. Vasanth alerted us to this and told us that he has given his mobile number to the night manager and that we should not hesitate in contacting him should we have any problem. Such a transparent approach and willingness to help is rare in any country. Another interesting feature was that all the staff of Victory Dawn seemed a group of happy campers which speaks ample for leadership of the Manager in a system where exploitation is more a norm than exception. We found the staff at Victory Dawn to be very polite, helpful and professional.

Breakfast was generous with fresh fruit juice, fruit platter and a choice between continental and south indian fare. During off season only continental breakfast is offered. We were disappointed by this and casually mentioned it to the waiter (who obviously reported it to Mr. Vasanth). Next morning we were offered delicious Dosas and Sambar. Truely appreciated.

At night we went for dinner to Koder Hose a sister property of Victory Dawn. This entitled us to a 10% discount.

We would love to visit this property again for its natural charm and for the warmth and hospitality of its General Manager.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony especially if booking two rooms as the balcony inter-connects the room...

A lovely old building and probably the best bathroom that we had during the whole trip to Kerala - very big and clean. Also the room fridge had beer, again a first for the trip. The breakfast was nice but the option of a Kerala breakfast would have been nice. Good service although we did have a glitch with the credit card but all was good at the end. Able to get extended check out which was handy considering our plane left at 11.30 pm.

We spent the final two days and one night of our Kerala trip here. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. The room was quiet, clean and well-equipped and our requests for extra water and towels were cheerfully granted. Enjoyed the fresh fruit at breakfast and look forward to staying there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the dining area upstairs.

Looks like the Victory Dawn is not so much a hotel as a location for film shoots. We had one crew here and were told there would be 'disturbance'. So we put up with hammering, drilling and sawing one day, but the next day were given no electricity during the numerous long power cuts. Apparently this is part of the 'disturbance' which we were told nothing about. When speaking to the manager he said this was obvious - 'disturbance' apparently means you have to sit without internet or air conditioning in the 38 degree heat. And no, you cannot have guests in your hotel room, even for business meetings. How unfortunate. As we thought we'd finally found a place in Fort Kochi we really liked!

Room Tip: Don't come here if they have film shoots scheduled!

We sadly stayed for just one night and would gladly have stayed more. Our room was very large, with a matching bathroom, excellent linen and pillows on a very big bed and a quiet and effective air-con machine supplemented by a couple of fans. The Duty Manager, Vasanth, was helpfulness personified and appeared genuinely pleased by our visit to the hotel. He recommended a couple of local activities that proved to be the jewels in our very brief visit. A late check-out was no trouble. This was our last night of our latest visit to India and proved one of the best. A point I would particularly like to make was the cleanliness of the room and especially the bathroom. Too often we have experienced quite poor standards of cleaning in otherwise good and excellent hotels. The Hotel Victory Dawn was of internationally acceptable standards in this regard. We very much liked the historic nature of the building and enjoyed a good, early breakfast. The attractive terrace looked like a place very suitable for an early evening drink. The hotel is well located in terms of local attractions and shopping, while other areas are quickly reached by rickshaw. There are very good restaurants in the vicinity for lunch and dinner. We would heartily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Fort Cochin and look forward to staying there again, for longer.

We stayed for one night and found this hotel to be quite relaxing after a long flight.
The rooms are big and ours was very quiet. We were within walking distance of the attractions that the guide books reccommend seeing. The breakfast was plentiful and the service was good. Just a pleasant stress free stop over.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
It is my pleasure to introduce to you my latest hospitality venture, Victory Dawn in Fort Cochin. Following on the heels of the highly acclaimed boutique hotel Koder House, Victory Dawn is an attempt to bring yet another exclusive experience to discerning travelers. A former Tata tea company bungalow, Victory Dawn is set close to the beach and the Parade Ground in Fort Cochin - an area where English, Portuguese and Dutch influences abound. Tea cultivation and production played a very important role in the commercial history of Kerala and in its heyday, this tea bungalow hosted many influential officials. Like Koder House, Victory Dawn pays tribute to an era and preserves this atmosphere in an authentic manner. The bungalow offers six large rooms refurbished to retain all its age-old charm as well as modern facilities like internet data port and TV in each room, business centre, foreign exchange, electronic safe, doctor-on-call and laundry etc. We hope your patronage and support will continue to be with us as we embark on this new venture. Help us to make it a success as we attempt to give our distinguished guests yet another exclusive experience. ... more   less
