Look, this is interesting historically, and they are still in use. However they are also a money making machine as any unwary tourist who gets close to them is assailed by lots of touts pressuring them to pay. Suggest you stand on the promenade and watch others being pressured. If you stand to one side and watch you can get good pictures, which don't cost you anything.

Its a great place to click Pictures, specially during the sunset time when you will have a orange back drop.
Also if lucky you might see some fisher men actually fishing with this net out of 20 odd i was lucky to see 1 net being used and its good experience.
Nothing great but yes a place to visit and click pics.

The place is a glimpse into the life of the fishing community which has been converted into a tourist spot.

Many people offer to allow tourists to use the nets and they cook your catch for you.

The place could use a little bit of cleaning up considering the number of tourists who stop here.

Would recommend a quick stop here.

This is a must see when in Fort Cochin. Very old and still operated by local fishermen. Unique bit of engineering. Our driver, Michael Robert based in Fort Cochin took us there and explained the history and the design concept of the nets. Very interesting and we took some lovely photos at different times of the day. The best were probably at sunset. Michael came highly recommended and took us as far as Chennai over 14 days. We would recommend not missing this beautiful bit of history if you are visiting Fort Cochin.
