“A perfect package.”
Reviewed 13 November 2011

My review largely echoes that of Woking 123 below. We have just returned from India, having spent a week on the 'Malabar Escapes - Boutique Kerala' package. It was truly awesome and certainly lives up to expectations. The video which you can view online from the Malabar House website is a true reflection of what awaits you.

The standard of the accommodation is high. The professionalism and friendliness of thw staff is impeccable. The food is great - 5* at Malabar House and extracts and themese of the same menu available at the other properties.

When we stayed the wifi at Malabar House was not working and I have read the same in other reviews here and in the guest book. This is hopefully a technical glitch which can be sorted.

Apart from that the holiday was tremendous - the transfers were in decent vehicles, were on time and were as described in the package information.

This is a high quality package which takes you to some truly fantastic properties which feel personal, private and special. The elephant ride, bullock cart ride, country boat trip, spectacular houseboat and great spa treatments were memories we will keep forever.

A 5* package certainly worth the price.

Room Tip: It is worth asking for an upgrade as it is possible to get one. We were upgraded to the suite at Pur...

This hotel provided a fantastic introduction to Southern India for us. This is a small hotel situated in one of the many old colonial buildings in Cochin. The rooms were modern, clean, well decorated and had good air-con. The staff were very helpful and we felt well looked after from start to finish. We particularly liked the small wine/tapas bar which was a really great place to have a drink before or after dinner. The courtyard with the small pool was a little sancturary and a wonderful place to relax. A great place to stay in Cochin.

we stayed at the malabar house for a day on the eve of our first anniversary and i must tell u that it was an experience which i'll cherish forever.such hospitality, such comfort and and such amazing service made me wana stay there for a longer time but unfortunately we had to proceed to alleppey.
the rooms are colorful, unique and well done up.the bathroom products are worth using...unlike what u find in basic hotels.
we had reached a bit late in the afternoon and the lunch service was over but the chef came over to our room to take our order and made what our heart desired!!!
i would like to recommend this lil boutique hotel to everyone who needs a place to unwind, relax and still feel like they are at home..special thanx to everyone who was serving us at the Malabar House...:):)

Room Tip: take up a room on the ground floor...:)

When you read reviews it is important to read the most up to date ones, as the poor reviews written here in 2008 bear no relevance to the current situation. This hotel is a tranquil property built round a courtyard. Rooms are spacious, well decorated and spotlessly clean. There are antiques and artwork displayed tastefully throughout the hotel. All staff we came into contact with were polite, knowledgeable and helpful. We stayed for four days and when we left a number of them came to say goodbye. It was the only hotel on our visit to India, North & South, which discouraged individual tipping of staff, suggesting we ask for the 'tip box' on departure if we were happy with the service.(Tipping to whom and how much was always difficult for us in other hotels).
Meals were delicious and did not cost a lot more than any other place we have stayed.
The photo shown above does not accurately portray the pool. - as it is in the middle of the courtyard rather small (and deep) and it is a bit embarrassing as you are in full view of everyone at Reception and those going to the Bar and Restaurant.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who likes their hotels small and personal and staff who give gracious service with a beaming smile. We loved it.

Room Tip: Ground floor larger suites available with outside seating areas

We stayed at the Malabar House for two nights in October at the beginning of the southern leg of our holiday. One of our party is an interior designer and of all the fantastic hotels we stayed in, this was the one he liked the best. The colourful rooms with their eclectic furniture are very charming. The products in the bathrooms smelt particularly good. They were having a tapas festival while we were there (certainly Indian and not Spanish tapas). We tried all of them and they were delicious. We also enjoyed the dinner and Indian and continental breakfasts. You can't go wrong here, it's a terrific hotel.

We visited all hotels of Malabar Escapes for the second time in two years, staying for more than two weeks on each occasion: 3 to 4 days in each hotel.
It is easy to sum up the total situation: Malabar Escapes are simply fantastic.
Small, beautifully designed and furnished historical houses at the best spots of Kerala.
The houses themselves are completely refurbished and with great style.
Joerg and Txuku, the owners, are lovable persons and, coming from museum design, you at once admire their fine ability to combine art, design, luxury and architecture, and, at the same time, with great respect to the Kerala surroundings and history.
Also the entire Staff and individual management of the houses are wonderful and helpful.
Great admiration for food and drinks, which are exceptionally good even for international standards, and especially for Kerala: Fusion of Indian, Spanish/Italian and Thai cuisine.
We are looking forward to the new houses Joerg and Txuku are going to establish.
