“A bit pricey but worth every penny”
Reviewed 10 June 2009

Combines all the best from Kerela with all the best from Taj. This was meant to be a business stay but I enjoyed the evenings. There's plenty to do including a backwater cruise off the pier on the hotel property. Located a few kms from the main city it's location makes it just right between the backwaters, the airport and the city. Great mix of facilities for business which are usualy hard to find in resorts and incredible levels of service. Spacious rooms and great bathrooms, something that makes Taj properties my favourite.

The Taj Malabar is simply heaven on earth. It is a small, intimate but luxurious hotel with the most wonderful setting you could imagine - overlooking the Arabian sea. It is well worth paying the extra to have a sea view room - the Sunset Rooms are located on the corners of rhe building and give a 360 degree panorama of the seafront. The service is first-class. If you like seafood do not miss having a meal in the Rice Boat Restaurant. You pick your fish from the catch of the day and discuss wirh the chef exactly how you would like it to be prepared. You will not be disappointed with the result. Relax in the infinity pool and watch the ships both large and small sail by and don't miss a massage or beauty treatment in the Spa.

The Malabar has all the amenities you expect from a Taj... Great service. Several tasty restaurants (including a really nice Thai place with the best banana-coconut desert I've ever had), a beautiful outdoor infinity pool, and a nice spa. My only complaint is that the hotel is fairly distant, about 15 minutes by ric, to the for and the shopping in Jewtown.

That said, when I go back to Cochin, I will definitely stay at the Malabar again.

If you can, I recommend staying in the "historic" wing of the hotel. The rooms have a bit more character than the new tower.

The location of the Hotel is perfect, surrounded by harbour on two sides.

The hotel offers a complimentary sunset cruise, which gives you a good opportunity to see the main sites of Fort Kochi.

The staff is very freindly and helpful and would not mind to walk an extra mile to help you.

You must try the swimming pool, it literally merges into the sea.

I will definitely come back to this hotel, this time with the family.

Easily the best hotel in Cochin. Although a bit secluded but doen't take too much time to travel. Boats/ferries passing the backwaters creates quite a sight from any room. The Kerala resturant "Rice boat' is out of the world. If you are looking at a luxury stay at Cochin, this is the place to be.
