Fort House is a cosy place in the very center of Fort Kochi. At average to high rates you would expect average to high service. I think the hotel suffered from popularity, by taking all the guests for given.

The pro's are obvious: Location is great. The hotel has a cosy boutique style. It's reasonable clean.

The con's are not too bad, but necessary to mention: a kind of "european friendliness" which means something like "we don't need you as a customer, but since you are here.... Welcome". The food is average, and the restaurant is nicely located on a pier..... With a view to heavy industry. Oh well, that's Kochi, I know.

Upon check-in we had a little incident. I had simply forgotten the passports at the previous hotel 8 hours away. Bummer! Fortunately I had a picture of them on my phone. But not of the Indian visa. Conclusion: At 9pm the hotel would not allow us to check-in (2 adults, 2 kids 6 years). Our previous hotel promised to drive all night to deliver the passports in the morning for free (thank you to outstanding Camp Noel). But that wasn't good enough. They would rather send us on the street, than offer us one night (pre-paid). That's BAD hospitality!!!

After an hour or so Camp Noel succeeded in mailing a copy of the visas, and THEN we were finally accepted. That was an unnecessary experience. My mistake to forget the passports, but come on!

Would I come back? Hmmm.... I would probably try a couple of the other classy colonial style hotels in the area.

Room Tip: In a room close to the reception you can reach the wifi-network.

Very nice rooms in a quiet location, within a few minutes walking distance to the Chinese fishing nets and the old town center. The rooms are spacious, very clean and comfortable. The massages they offer are wonderful, I had a foot massage for instance and was extremely pleased with it. The terrace is really nice to have drinks at night and to enjoy dinner and breakfast. The food is excellent -- the fish on a banana leaf was delicious!

On our recent trip through India, this hotel stands out for the quality of comfort and service. It is located in the centre of a city, but remains an oasis of serenity. Although the hotel entrance is on busy city street, the accomodations and the restaurant are set in a tropical garden on the waterfront of the harbor, the dining area being on a pier that extends over the waters of the bay. We found the staff to be warm, friendly, and efficient - all our needs were quickly and courteously answered, the rooms are gracious and immaculately clean. The Fort House is the city hotel that we most enjoyed; no hesitation about returning on our next holiday.

It is a pleasant place, nicely located, very good service, interesting upscale rooms. But compared to similar places I feel that it is about 30% overpriced. Of course, Kochi is touristy and more expensive. I cannot compare with other similar place in the same place, hence take my opinion with some salt. The people in the reception are very knowledgeable and polite. Its my best memory besides the bathrooms in the rooms which here well designed.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the sea, in the first floor (not ground floor) are probably better to have.

Room is simple but tastefully decorated. The big draw is the lovely green courtyard around which all the rooms are situated, and the beautiful setting right on the water. Very helpful staff and tasty food at the restaurant (check out the spiced figs for dessert: delicious). Only drawback is no internet in the rooms, only in reception. (Also there was one young woman at reception who seemed totally clueless: otherwise everyone was extremely helpful and friendly). Nice touches like excellent free foot/leg massage. Will definitely come back.

We stayed there the last days of our Indian journey and of 2012 for the second time. We love the place the hotel is situated. Watching the ships roll in,while having breakfast or dinner on the pier. For seasonal reasons the rooms are relatively expensive, but in a really comfortable status. The a/c is working very well and was the most silent we have had during traveling. The restaurant is ok, but you pay the sight. The staff is nice and tries to be helpful, but we had the impression every time we go to the reception, they don't remember our former coming. The hotel is a perfect stay for visiting the first Indian biennale, every exhibition in a walking distance.
A reason to get arguing with the restaurant staff was their politics on new year's eve. First they told us all the softdrinks are included in the fixed price, but later on we have to pay every one of the drinks.

The room are well proportioned, but basically-furnished, with little else, apart from a bed and a cupboard. However, the staff are very pleasant, the location is perfect, and the inner courtyard is beautiful, leading to a dinning/breakfast area which is on the sea. An excellent hotel, and a very good value for money. Book it early, stay for more than one day and enjoy the dinner and breakfast there near the water; both are magic experiences.

Room Tip: The rooms next to the reception area have wifi internet connection; the others more further away do...
