A beautiful building right on the waters front. Lovely touches such as recycled water bottles, newspaper envelopes and locally made soaps all made it a little bit more special than your average hotel. The bed is large, comfortable and has a little step up.... all rather quaint. It was all beautifully clean.

Staff are helpful and friendly but not really 5*, perhaps more training is necessary. They found our requests for help with transport and a half day backwater cruise rather a challenge and could not answer our questions until the 'boss' came back.

Breakfast is delicious. The masala dosai was superb as were the juices and other Indian treats.
The complimentary sunset cruise was so good that we did it twice and spied dolphins.

The one draw back is the level of noise around the outdoor terrace due to ferries pulling in and out of the dock, which is next door. This did not really bother us but it can be very loud, so if you are looking for complete peace this place may not be for you. The pool, which is also next to the waters edge was a lovely place to watch the world go by.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Standard room, 203. This was close to the ferries but the noise at night did not keep us from sleeping. we did not need the ear plugs provided.

We arrived at Brunton's Boatyard after a short refresher stay at the Kochi Airport's Marriott and then enjoyed a pleasant drive into Fort Kochi.

Brunton's Boatyard is part of the CGH-earth group of Hotels, a model that embraces eco-tourism with a passion....The traditional architecture & design elements blend elegantly against the backdrop of the Harbor within this historic location; the layout gracious and timeless. Then, little eco touches abound.. there was the locally handcrafted soaps and toiletries, fresh fruit in the rooms, bottled water in glass bottles ( Please offer these for sale...what a wonderful memento)..paper products upcycled cleverly etc, etc!

On our arrival, we were greeted in the wonderful & warm traditional way and then led to the seating in the deep, cool veranda. We were actually checked in there while we were enjoying the environment. Yes, there are the grand old "phunkha fans", jasmine garlands and gracious hosts transporting you into another world!

Our rooms were on the third floor, rooms 302 and 309 which flanked the building outwards onto the marvelous views of the Kochi Harbor.
These rooms are styled in the Old World way with a suite in each...Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Bedroom with an attached bathroom as well as a guest bathroom within the foyer of this suite. A lot of room, gracious charm and of course, the view of the going ons in the waterways out front.
Is there noise outside of the ferry from here? Well, yes, there is some...This is a well positioned, prime viewing, central- to- Kochi, upscale hotel. Did we mind the noise?....Not really....the Management thoughtfully puts some earplugs on the bedside and the windows and air keeps most of it out....Minor in the face of all that is good here!

The hotel is right there, next door to the promenade of the Chinese nets and all the fishermen's stalls lining the walkways. This was the highlight of our day there as our son loves to fish....One of the owners of the nets invited us up the gangplank so we could participate in the lowering and raising of the nets, something they do almost 100-150 times in a day to see what they can come up with!!
Amazing and a shared piece of global know-how from hundreds of years ago!!

We also visited the Old Jew Town and the Synagogue there as well as meandered around the Antique Market and the Old Dutch Palace around that area.
We lunched at the Seagull restaurant down the road from the Hotel and recommend it highly for authentic, really fresh Kerala seafood!!

Dinner was at the Hotel and we chose to dine at the History Restaurant over the more formal, reservations-needed-Seafood-Dinner option. It was a great way to round off a day well spent in the bustling seaport, with ambiance and service to match!

Breakfast the next morning was out on the lawns and had both the Western and traditional South Indian fare.

The Hotel has a small yet excellent little Spa and we availed of the Ayurveda massages in a scrupulously clean environment with the massage culminating in us put into a warm steam box that made us come out looking like well massaged little cherubs!!!

Well cleansed at the Spa, further fortified with a hearty breakfast, we put forth a well massaged leg on towards now to PhillipKutty's Farm!!!

Room Tip: Suites 302 and 309 if you like to spread out and enjoy a little bit of the "Koi Hai?" genre of rooming!!!

Dear Sir

Thank you for being with us. I am happy that you enjoyed the property, its decor and the eco-friendly practices. The drinking water in glass bottles is a process that we have started recently and the response has been outstanding. We will soon be offering to purchase the bottles if you wish to take them. What we have is a limited facility for Ayurveda but the offering is authentic. Thank you for this wonderful review and we hope to see you back at Brunton on your next trip.

Brunton Boatyard is now one of my favorite hotels in the world. Everything about it was totally amazing and luxurious.

We arrived here after some less than stellar stays at other hotels in India, and walking in to the lobby was like a breath of fresh air. From the lovely marigold necklaces placed around our necks to the fresh lime soda they brought, it was calming and welcoming. Our room was perfect, simple elegance with a pristine bathroom and a fabulous porch overlooking the water.

On our first day we spent some time walking around Fort Kochi and shopping in the cute boutiques, and then had a late afternoon dip in the pool. The complimentary cold bottled water and chilled washcloths are a luxurious touch for the poolside experience. We freshened up and then joined a couple other guests for the free sunset boat tour. Natasha was our guide, and she not only speaks great English but was a fantastic guide, giving us info and history of the area. Lime/mint lassi was served on the boat, and it was delicious.

We ate dinner at the rooftop restaurant over the fish market, and we were impressed by huge portion sizes and great flavors. Sipping masala chai on that roof over the water is definitely a favorite memory of our trip to India.

The included breakfast is also superb- there are western and Indian food choices, and they let us order off the menu with no extra charge (we really wanted more of that lime/mint lassi!). We found the staff to be charming and attentive throughout our stay.

My ONLY regret is that we only had one night in this great hotel. I hope to come back someday!

All the positive reviews posted on this elegant, colonial hotel are accurate & can be endorsed & verified by this traveller.
My Wife & I had a standard room, 306,on the second floor right next to the lift which was spacious and overlooked the well kept gardens, swimming pool & of course the busy harbour with a vista between oil depots & a very large container terminal.
The hotel is located directly next to the ferry landing which operates continually between the various islands & although it can get a little noisy at times we did not find that we were disturbed & certainly didn't need the earplugs provided in our room.
Reference has been made elsewhere to the height & quality of the bed but found it to be perfectly comfortable.
The room could do with a comfortable chair rather than the charming cane chairs provided but that is a minor gripe.
The bathroom consists of bath, separate shower & WC all combined all of which were functional & adequate for our needs.
Above all the whole staff couldn't have done more to make our 2 day stay more enjoyable & this particular traveller was impressed with the quality & service of the hotel's breakfast located adjacent to the water's edge.
We were recommended by our travel consultant to stay here in preference to the Taj Vivanta on Willingdon Island which proved to be excellent advice.

This is not a Four Seasons Hotel. The staff dont all speak superb english, there is some noise from the neighbouring ferry port and passing boats, and they have mildly annoying wifi passwords which need renewing every day. Nevertheless this was one of the most enjoyable hotel stays i recall having, and i would highly recommend it to anyone going to Cochin.

Visually the hotel is stunning - it is extremely tastefully decorated in an old-world colonial style with lots of draped material over teak wood, with well-maintained lawns and open areas. The rooms are beautiful and exude charm. Just a pleasure to be in. There is a delightful tea-tasting set in the room with instructions on how to perfectly brew each type of tea on offer, and a great little balcony overlooking the water. There are free morning yoga lessons, cooking demonstrations by the in-house chef, a daily sunset boat cruise on the hotel's launch, and a lovely restaurant at the front.

This is a gem of a hotel with a certain je ne sais pas, that oozes personality. A 'must' when visiting Cochin. It doesnt come cheap at ~$300 but its worth every cent.
