“an ideal place to stay in Kochi”
Reviewed 31 May 2013

Due to the high season I've stayed in several hotels in Kochi but this was the best one. Clean, tidy, free WIFI, excellent food and superb accomodation. The staff is the most helpful I have met so far. Bicycles are provided free of charge. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: higher floors are quieter

Spare, minimal, stylish- and most importantly, with really charming and friendly staff. Outstanding in fact. Excellent location. Good swimming pool though small. Good food, though just a bit self conscious. Some excellent restaurants around though, a few minutes walk away. Strongly recommend Oceano near Soma for Malayalee food. Stayed for 3 nights and would have been just a little happier with a TV in the room as Kochi goes to sleep very early. Roomy and well designed bathrooms!

It is a lovely hotel right in the heart of Fort Cochin. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom is very swish with a big bath as well as shower. The reception area is beautiful with art work and a fountain. The pool is large and clean, there could be some more sun beds available.

We found the hotel quiet and the food was very good. They are still waiting for their licence to sell wine etc. The manager was very kind and helpful and we would like to thank him personally.

This hotel will soon be near or at the top of places to stay in Fort Kochin.

Room Tip: Top floor looking over the pool as its lovely to sit out on the balcony in the evening.

Another major success for the CGH group. This time they have collared an amazing 40's/50's piece of architecture and tastefully preserved and upgraded the building in their own inimitable way. It reflects the very best of the modernist movement. The revamp of the building however does not compromise the particular CGH Earth stamp of luxury and ecology and gives you a perfect haven deep in the heart of one of the oldest parts of Fort Cochin. The food too is a revaluation of the best of traditional Kerelan Cuisine. Delivering platters of photogenic and tantalisingly delicious interpretations of the light and delightful local dishes. The staff, educated and enthusiastically engage you or leave your peace intact as your mood dictates, managed and trained in the CGH manner, they are at once your friends, allies or staff, depending on your needs. We will be back again, and again, and again if this trip is anything to go by.

We stayed here at the beginning of a three week trip to India. It was a delightful place to recover from the long journey. The location is terrific for walking and seeing a great deal of Fort Cochin. the hotel is very comfortable and the staff is friendly and helpful. This was the best hotel room we stayed in on the trip. I definitely recommend it.

Those visiting Fort Cochin and plan to stay here, then look no more as this hotel is just absolutely lovely. It is so close by to beach (non swim-able) and though you can't see the beach from the hotel, you can hear the waves crashes and the ships honking. They provide free bicycles for you to ride around and it's perfect way to see the old churches and the chinese fishing nets. The hotel is very new (Opened in Sept 2012), therefore everything looks and feel new. They don't have liquor license yet so for those who think they can order alcohol, please bear this in mind. The rooms are big and the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms are huge with sunken bath tub and rain shower. The food is good here but the best part of it all is the service. When we were leaving, they walked us to the car and we felt as though we were leaving our home. We left the place with heavy heart.

We loved the Eighth Bastion! It was so pretty and, despite of being so new, it had a marvelous flavor of the past. The food was truly fantastic. Chef Saiju Thomas is VERY good. He makes the traditional Kerala dishes authentic yet gives them a modern twist. I still dream of the open faced cheese tart! Cashew cheese, oven roasted tomato, spinach and a subtle basil vinaigrette. The Shiitake Bisque with apple, cognac, herbs and chopped mushrooms was superb also. The "Meen Pattichtathu" or Kerala fish curry was superb with red chili, tamarind and ginger. The hotel did not yet have a liquor license but they made us the world's best iced tea with lemon, mint and honey! There is music in the courtyard at dinnertime.
Breakfast was a delight with eggs cooked to order and wonderful pancakes and breads.
The staff at the hotel were wonderful. Ruth at the desk was very helpful. The infinity pool was relaxing and we had a marvelous time!

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed to be great.
