“An ideal place to stay for a few nights in Fort Cochin”
Reviewed 24 June 2013

The hotel is located on a quiet place but near all important sights of Fort Cochin. The staff welcomes you with open arms and is very communicative and friendly. The atmosphere is cultivated but uncomplicated. The architecture of Eighth Bastion is modern, elegant and in the best of taste. The restaurant in the courtyard provides tasty food. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. Highly recommended!

The location and infrastructure are very nice but :
Regarding the staff, the waiters are certainly not of an international and luxury level : for example, serving in dirty or broken dishes is obviously not a problem for them as well as having their cell ringing during their service... ; Outside the meal times, it is really difficult to get something to eat.
The reception and room service people are willingfull but unexperienced
The choice of menues is really poor and remains unchanged along the week though the cook and his staff are outstanding (I asked them to cook some special food for me and it was absolutely delicious).
Breakfast starting at 8.30 am (in fact 9 am!) is too late.
The rooms are nice but the light from the corridor goes through the doors at night.
There should be a place for TV far from the rooms for those who want to sleep and not be disturbed by the late TV watchers.
As a conclusion, I would say that this hotel has potential but does not use it.

Dear Ma'am, Thank you for your comments wherein you had expressed that you found your experience at Eighth Bastion not in keeping with the standards you expect in a CGH Earth hotel. We admit the defects you noticed are inexcusable in a CGH EARTH property though the hotel was in it's initial phase of opening. We have been at the job of making this a place of excellence in Cochin by addressing issues, many of which you have also raised in your comment. We are glad to inform you that we now are receiving very positive feedback from our guests who have stayed with us as we go past the teething stage. We assure you will only have positive comments on your next stay with us.

Regards,

Although not our first choice hoteli in Cochi, this turned out to be a little gem for our two night stay. We had a well appointed room with a/c and minibar/fridge. Excellent varied menu, best food on our three week tour but no alcohol available, meals taken in the courtyard. Bikes available to go sight-seeing. Attentive and helpful staff.

My girlfriend and I stayed here in October last year - set up through and indian travel agent we used - Odin Tours, who said the hotel had newly opened and they got a great rate for us. The hotel is very modern and luxurious. Spacious and very comfortable rooms, and only a short walk up the street to the water/markets. So we were very happy with the location. The staff were extremely helpful and cheerful. Breakfast was amazing and they were very keen to make sure we were happy the entire stay. We got in late one night and they offered to have the kitchen cook us something - which was great considering they had just closed.

Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Would stay here again no question.

Room Tip: We had a room on the ground floor, with a door that opened up onto the pool. This wasnt a problem fo...
