We didn't stay at the Old Courtyard but ate there a lot, having been taken there by a local friend who used to go to parties there when it was a private house.
The food was always absolutely delicious, reasonably priced, and served in a cool, quiet, music free oasis from Kochi's noise and heat. Our children loved it and the service was fast, friendly and professional.

We stayed in the homestay Kavu house around the corner. Very spacious beautiful clean property. Great to have a bit of space, and a lovely quiet room (at the back upstairs). Breakfast was served at the Old Courtyard and was very good. Staff all very helpful and polite.

Room Tip: Room at the back upstairs was lovely and quiet.

This hotel was a find -- the rooms had dark wood (teak?) floors that were cool to the touch even in the middle of the day, when the hot Cochin sun beat down. The room felt spacious and had good hot water and water pressure, and the balconies are very nice to sit out on. Also good internet. The only negative was the staff's limited English, so outside of food/taxis/train schedules, they can't really help out a lot. But the service was great otherwise -- anytime you asked for anything, the staff was quick to respond.

I have spent two nights in Kavu House, a magnificent old building managed by Old Courtyard and just a 2 minutes walk from the hotel. I have not seen the hotel's rooms but if you happen to book in Fort Cochin I strongly suggest to ask accomodation there.

It is clean, spacious, well air-conditioned and the overall mansion is beautifully furnished in dark wood.

The hotel itself is a very nice building with very kind front-desk personnel. This is typical in Kerala but nevertheless their kindness was remarkable.

No internet access available, but many internet cafes in the surroundings.

The only concern is about the restaurant. Nice location and kind personnel but untasty international menu. Desserts are good. A real pity considering how good is genuine Indian and Keralan cuisine.

In general Fort Cochin is pretty touristic with worse restaurants than elsewhere, and very expensive considering local average (but still pretty cheap in absolute terms!).

The Old Courtyard Hotel is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Fort Cochin, close to the chinese fishing nets. Our room was perfect and full of history. The staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. We did not eat at the hotel other than breakfast as we wanted to explore Fort Cochin and seek out interesting places to eat. But the food looked very good and breakfasts were excelent. If you want an interesting tour of Fort Cochin and see 'off the tourist track' things and places, look out for a TukTuk driver called Edwin who often parks outside the hotel in the morning. Edwin looked after us for a day, taking us to all sorts of interesting places, and ensured that the shops we visited looked after us as well.

The staff are very kind here and it is a piece of history - the elegant Portuguese courtyard (after which the hotel is named) is a really peaceful and relaxing place to while away the time, a pause from the relatively busy town. Ask for rooms 1 or 3.

Room Tip: Apparently rooms 1 and 3 are much better than the others

We stayed for two nights and found the staff exceptionally helpful and kind. Room really wonderful with wooden floors and antique furniture and four poster bed. Very good vicinity with lots of little shoppes around. Close to the sea and fishermen with traditional nets. We were able to spend a couple of hours swimming in the pool at the adjacent hotel one afternoon which we loved. Frendly cats!
