Very historic church and the first European style church made in India in around 1500 AD.

Portuguese navigator Vasco-da-gama was laid in rest here in 1524 AD and later moved his body to Portugal in 1538 AD.

St Francis Church is the oldest European church in India. Built by the Portugese in 1503, later restored by the Dutch and then converted by the British into an Anglican Church. Vasco Da Gama was buried here, but his remains are now in Portugal, however stones commemorating him remain. Good if you have a guide to explain its history and architecture but not much if alone, although there is a brochure for sale

An important structure in the past of Kochi and even India as this is widely considered to be the first Christian Church in Asia. Originally built by the Portuguese it changed hands many times but still stands a an historic reminder of the areas colonial past. Originally also the grave site of the famous Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama before being moved back to Portugal
