A beautiful right next to the chinese fishing nets. I was in Kochi for work and found this hotel to be a perfect place to relax after a long day at work.

There are approx 6 rooms are are full of windows. The room had a very strong character with contemporary lines. The hotel staff was very help as we ll as it was my 1st visit to kochi.

There also have spa facilities available but they have to be booked in advance.

All in all, a great place to stay!

We loved this hotel--it was our favorite stay on a two week trip across Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Unlike a lot of boutique hotels, this one has not been renovated to within an inch of its life, and still retains all its historic charm and character (with the welcome exception of the large, luxurious bathrooms!). The rooms are huge--like suites, almost. The beds were particularly comfortable (the best mattresses we found in India, and the plushest linens). The staff were efficient and attentive. Staying here was really more like being a guest in a grand old home--exactly the kind of experience you want when traveling, but rarely find. I know there were other guests, but you wouldn't have known it from the treatment we got (but then, there are only six or seven rooms). There is also a Serena in the hotel--nice, though pricey. We were so glad we had opted for two nights here.

This is a wonderful hotel with the most outrageously huge rooms. And it was very special to stay in a part of Kochi’s fascinating multicultural history. Koder House in the time of the Koders (when it was called the Red House) even features in a glossy book on ‘Indian Style’. There is a copy in the hotel’s small library – worth taking a look to see how much care has been put into retaining the feel of the Koders' private home.

Absolutely delightful and helpful staff – they even insisted on refunding our taxi bill because the car was not A/C as promised (not that we’d even complained). An auto rickshaw driver we found right outside the hotel drove us round Fort Kochi for the whole morning for a ridiculously small sum. As well as the usual places, he took us to an off-the-tourist-trail ginger warehouse where two lovely ladies ran a small shop selling their own spiced teas, salted limes and pickles, spices and soaps. There was no hard sell and we bought most of our holiday gifts here!

The hotel is expensive but you can get great deals if you shop around – we paid only £80 at peak season through Asia Rooms.

Firstly let me suggest that you visit Kochi in September - not only is monsoon over and the weather lovely, the hotel prices are way way lower - we only paid 70 pounds for our room at Koder House.

I won't repeat the other reviews too much, it's a lovely colonial building and the rooms are massive - bigger than my flat in London. The beds were the most comfortable we had in India - with proper thick mattresses unlike the skinny mattresses we saw elsewhere.

The location is really convenient, walk everywhere.

The services was pleasant and efficient. We had massages which were nice, as the spa rooms were only a few steps away from our bedrooms.

One thing I really enjoyed was sitting on the balcony with a beer watching the families in the park across the road.

Because the junior suite was acutually two huge rooms plus a huge bathroom, I'd suggest families just ask for extra beds for the kids rather than booking a second room.

Would definitely stay again.

  • Liked — The lovely colonial architecture, and beers on the balcony
  • Disliked — It was low season and we were the only guests!

We ended our 5 week Indian holiday with a long 11 night stay at Koder House. What a wonderful experience! With huge rooms, spacious lounges and large bathrooms fitted with such luxuries as a jacuzzi; Koder House is the ultimate in comfort and personal service. Situated near the chinese fishing nets it has ideal location for exploring the area and strolling along the sea front as well as being close to the ferries and pleasure boats. The staff are extreemly attentive and nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms seem to cleaned each time you go out and towels changed throughout the day. Fresh fruit is placed in your room each morning and cakes left in the evening for a quick late night snack. There is reasonable sized plunge pool which is ideal for a quick dip and cooling off. If you take the trouble to explore Fort Cochin there is a great deal to see.

  • Liked — The large spacious rooms and personal service.
  • Disliked — Stairs; there is no lift.

Excellent destination in Cochin -- cant see how it could have been better. Top notch service, all very polite and genuinely helpful. Located in the best spot in town, right near the chinese fishing nets and stroll of shops and morning markets. Junior suite was charming (and huge!) with large sparkling modern bathroom, large "dressing room" connecting bath to bedroom & great raised comfortable bed. Restaurant served excellent food, cool yet understated decor and even reasonable in price. We went for dinner the first night at the Malabar House where we ran into people we'd met traveling before... food there was good but not great, very nice outdoor ambience but music too loud & this couple had problems with their room and changed it, thought it was "ok". Koder House was nothing but delightful. Pricier than the others but worth it for a hassle-free, luxurious stay.
