“Wonderful calming hotel with friendly staff”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

This place was our saviour from the hustle and bustle of Cochin.

The rooms are spacious and the veranda where you eat breakfast overlooks the beach area.

The pool is beautifully maintained and the staff were extremely accommodating- letting us use the facilities and store our baggage in a spare room without paying for another night when our flight was at 3 in the morning the next day. We really appreciated it!

Near Malabar House and many of the other large hotels, the location is very convenient.

Having just opened the hotel was a little under-occupied but I'm sure this will change very soon!

We stayed for 3 nights and had an amazing time. The staff were very friendly. The room was very nice, well kept and clean. The hotel itself is very lovely to stay at for a different feel. The breakfast upstairs is lovely. It is so enjoyable to sit upstairs at the terrace while overlooking the sea. The pool was also great in the heat. We loved it and would definitely recommend this wonderful place. The location was also great. Walking distance to all the sights.

The hotel is quite pretty and it is in a great location, right in front of the beach, although the beach itself is dirty and the waters are almost black. It is walking distance to the fishing nets and most of the stuff around. There is really very little to see or do in Fort Kochi, which is my opinion is just worth half a day passing by. The staff are quite nice and the place is kept quite clean. As other reviewer pointed out, they have a problem with hot water in the shower, which is a pity. I told them, but nothing changed. The shower is also too small and uncomfortable, which is ridiculous given the large size of the bathroom. The rooms are simple. In my view they should get rid of the TV and put a fridge inside. They have safes. It has a nice veranda and a nice yard with a small swimming pool. Breakfast is included is is basic, but just what you need, nothing great. Another flaw is that you need to check out at Noon. I went there in the monsoon season and I think they had just 3 guests. I asked to check out at 13:30 and they said I could not, which I did not understand.

We stayed 2nights in this hotel because it was one of the few hotels with a pool in Fort Cochin. The hotel was located opposite the beach and next to the Dutch cemetery. There are only a handful of rooms so it is a very quiet relaxing place to stay.
The food in the restaurant was delicious but the wait staff only just speak and understand English. The breakfast was included and is basic with a small western choice on the menu.If you want bacon double check they have it. We assumed because it was on the menu it would be available -never assume anything in India.
The staff were very accommodating and helpful when things were not working in the room.
The rooms were large and clean.Bathroom had a clawfoot bath, which was good because the shower was a nightmare to figure out how to get warm water. The towels were soft, beds hard but pillows great.
The pool was refreshing and there was free wifi.
The hotel was located within walking distance of the Chinese fishing nets along the esplanade and we hired a auto cheaply to see all of the other beautiful sites in fort Cochin.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are more airy with a view.

We only stayed at this hotel 2 nights. It was very nice and central to old Kochi. The pool was good and the bedroom was very nice. Only complaint was that the fridge did not cool anything very well and when we asked for another one, the staff probably did not understand what we wanted, so we basically got ignored. All in all, no complaints though.

Really good value booking to stay in this real pretty home. lovely views of the dutch cemetery and beach from the balcony.

Clean room with huge bathroom and nice high ceilings.

nice sized usable pool to use during down time.

food was really good and the chicken malabar is in the top things I ate all trip!

ideal to walk to beach less than a hundered metres (was packed and fun on sunday!). everywhere is walk able from here but if the heat is too much pick up an autorickshaw outside most will ferry you around for an hour for less than 50rs or do a trip for 10-20rs!

Nice staff and good customer service!

We did not stay at the Poovath, but we did spend lots of time on the veranda overlooking the Arabian Sea, drinking cups of great cappuccino while birdwatching - it's a birders paradise Kingfishers, Bee-eaters, hawks... All the common areas were bright and well kept. Looks like a nice place to stay.
