“Good View. And that's about it..”
Reviewed 29 January 2013

A 3 days trip to the City with plenty of time left for recreation and a 'Spa resort'. sounded good at that time. The entrance and the lobby look very good. The welcome was very friendly with the ladies at the desk leaving no stone unturned in making us feel at home.

A 5 minute delay and the rooms were ready. Our rooms faced the river, pretty nice,I'd sit in the balcony look at the river (which barely had any activity ) and sip a drink. The room however was pretty average.

The room was spacious but not luxurious from any angle. the mini bar was empty, it had a small 30 inch Tv on the wall with a pretty sad supposed 'HD' set top box. The bathroom was clean however the shower booth wasn't completely closed which made sure a lot of water went out and flooded the bathroom floor.

the air conditioning is inadequate and thankfully there was a fan. An over-weight companion of mine sweated through the night and was in discomfort for the most part owing to the heat.

If the Room was average the room service was pathetic. Not only is the food at this hotel below average the service is sub par too. The staff is very courteous however the time they take to do anything is bound to get anyone annoyed.

I ordered perhaps 50% items from their moderately sized menu. From pasta to prawns to kingfish to dal makhani to their desserts and i can safely say that the food is un-forgettable In a bad way.

Don;t expect any authentic tastes here unless you are going for Kerala beef/mutton based recipes. the fish had a raw smell/taste. the prawns while somewhat tasty gave me an upset stomach within hours. The sambar had loads and loads of coconut in it making it inedible. the northern dishes were full of salt for some reason. meanwhile any attempt at continental dishes was futile primarily owing to the cheese they used. Was it even cheese i am not sure

All in all use room service for boiled eggs, Juices or gulab jamuns for everything else u better find a better restaurant in the area.

The TV and the Fridge also made a lot of electric sound which was particularly annoying at night when it was all very quiet. There was also a noticeably annoying hum/whistle kind of a sound which i assumed was coming from the AC Duct. on the second night of my stay i couldn't take it anymore and got up in the night to search for the source of the sound but couldn't figure it out. i am guessing it was coming from outside. thankfully i was carrying earplugs which helped a little.

You can also book a houseboat ride at the resort which i did and it was very pleasant. We ordered some beers and sat on the deck of this houseboat while we were driven around the river for an hour. didn't see much except a few species of birds here and there but all in all it's a good way to chill with your friends and have a few drinks.

The pool is forgettable unless you just want to lounge around. it's 3.5 Ft deep.

Overall the only reason i would go back to this place would be for the Boat ride and the view. And perhaps the next time i would find another place to eat at.

Room Tip: The 5th floor provides good views !

We stayed at the cottage facing the river for 3 nights.
Excellent room, clean and well furnished. The balcony with the chairs was very cozy.
There was some conference going on and therefore the rooms were fully booked and most of the service was oriented towards the conf guests. As long as we went for the buffet breakfast/lunch it worked fine. Any ala carte food order or room service took plenty of time and not always resulted in good quality stuff. I expected to get some authentic Kerala dishes, but did not work out as planned, as we were forced to eat from the buffet.
As long as you had all the time in the world, the slowness might not be bothersome.

The complimentary house boat ride was very nice.

The front desk staff were helpful and so was the travel desk.

Would recommend it for the location. Check if any any events are happening before booking!!

Great location, set amongst trees and a river. It is an ideal place to enjoy the sunrise. The Bfast buffet is awesome, with a wide range of items.

The cottages are great, privacy is ensured. It is a treat simply walking around the resort. The seafood in the restaurant is specially noteworthy.

We stayed in Kadavu during the last week of December. The service was very good. The staff was very helpful.

The location is pretty good. It can't be missed. It is right on the main road by the river

We first had a river view cottage and later shifted to a lake view room.

The cottage we were allotted was stinking when we checked in late at night. We were too tired to complain and settled in. The next day, the stench got worse and we called the reception. We had two options, they would either use a room freshener or we could move to another room in another block. Since we were part of a large group and preferred to stay close to the rest of the group, we decided to try the room freshener. The person who came in with the room freshener used up almost the entire canister trying to eliminate the smell. I don't know which was worse, the stench or the now unbearable perfume of the room freshener. We had to keep the door open and set the fan on full speed for an hour before we were able to breathe comfortably. As the room freshener dissipated, the stench became obvious again. It seemed certain that there was a dead rodent somewhere. We asked for a change of room. And we were given one in the lake view block. This room was definitely better, it smelled clean and had a much bigger bathroom.

We had asked for an extra bed. The foldable cot they set up was broken and they did not have a replacement and ended up putting the mattress on the floor.

The bathroom in the cottage was small and taking a shower meant flooding the entire bathroom. The bathroom in the river view room was bigger and had a tub.

Room service and house cleaning were adequate.

We had food only at Ootupura. The food was very average. Nothing worth mentioning. The place was very understaffed, so dishes were often empty, we had to wait for ages for cutlery and water. It was obvious that the staff was trying to do their best, but there is is just so much they could do, especially during the rush hours.

We used their pool. It was well maintained and clean. Everyone had a fun time. Definitely the highlight of the property.

The resort had arranged a Bharatnatyam performance that was quite good. The city sightseeing trip they took us on was okay.

Room Tip: The riverside cottages on the upper level are better than than the ones on the lower level.. They ar...

Pros: Cottages were really good with nice river views. Food was excellent with a nice buffet spread. The pool was well maintained and clean.

Our party of 6 people spent almost three weeks at Kadavu in November 2012. We found the experience extremely worthwhile. The location is magnificent, and eating in the restaurant overlooking the river and forest was an experience worth the price. The staff were very friendly, helpful and went out of their way to provide the best experience of their hospitality. For me the best part was the ayurveda treatment, including massage, yoga and meditation. Dr Remya and Dr. Deepak made sure they monitored our progress daily and the therapists were extraordinarily dedicated in making sure we left them with sound minds and bodies. I am very grateful to the,
While I could not partake in all the excellent food that was served in the restaurant, the food that was prescribed as part of my treatment was delicious and I did not feel that I was being deprived at all.
Evening entertainment programs and outings were welcome, but the resort needs to improve the programs.
The arrangements for our stay were made with Madam Sinduja who made sure all our needs were taken care of. All in all it was a rewarding and relaxing and health 3 weeks I spent at Kadavu, and I plan to do it again in 2013.

Room Tip: All the rooms are spacious. I would opt for rooms overlooking the river, rather than the inner cour...

I was looking forward to a good massage in the famed Ayurveda Center of the resort after a long drive from Karwar. Unfortunately we reached late. The resort looks very nice specially in the evening. We were upgraded to a cottage right next to the river. Unfortunately we there there just for 1 night and hence did not get an opportunity to explore and enjoy the facilities. The room was quite OK but the bathrooms needs some up gradation. The breakfast spread in the morning was quite decent.

Room Tip: Get your self a cottage if you can
