After a lot of thinking on whether or not to add Thekkady to our Kerala itinerary, we finally decided to add just 1 night stay here. I will also be putting up a separate review on Periyar but I can briefly tell you right now that its perfectly okay to give Thekkady a miss. Separate story...
There were many properties that appeared more appealing than Treetop but I found them a bit over-priced. Also, with our itinerary, we were going to reach Thekkady only at around 3-4pm & leave next day at 10-11am. So this time, I was okay to stay at an average property unlike what I did at Munnar & Kumarakom.
TA reviews were not so bad despite the hotel rating being slightly low. Since it was available on my dates & also because I found the email / telecon interactions with the hotel professional & clear, I decided to go ahead with them. Plus it was a great value compared to other hotels.
The location was really good. Not too far from the Periyar reserve. The property is large & well-maintained. We stayed in the cottages & upon request, we were given 2 adjacent & not-so-uphill rooms since we had senior citizens in our group. The rooms were decently maintained & spacious. Not too modern but still very comfortable.
We had dinner at their restaurant & being the Diwali day, it had a great spread. The food tasted very nice & we enjoyed every bit of our buffet. The hotel had also organized fire crackers for the guests that night. The next morning breakfast was also good. The restaurant staff was really nice.
The hotel also helped me to book my safari tickets. That really was the biggest help I needed so that we get on to the first safari of the day. Special thanks to reception staff for this. They were all very warm & smiling.
Since this was a short stay, i cannot comment much on the other aspects much but I can certainly say that it is a great value-for-money hotel with good location / property for a 1/2 nights stay.

- Nestling in the natural beauty of the wilds Hotel Treetop is Thekkady's leading resort on the edge of Periyar Tiger Reserve. The perfect place to explore the magical sensation of the evergreen rain forest that straddles the tiny state of Kerala. The well spaced neatly laid out Gabled cottages and rooms with tiled roofs and un-plastered granite-stone exteriors are reminiscent of the colonial bungalows and blend into the landscaped hinterland harmoniously. The gourmet restaurant is stylishly laid out and spacious. Barbecues and Tandoor in the open alongside the campfire place in winter is another option. ... more less
