“Excellent homestay - Great view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2012

Ultimate experience of the jungle living in a homestay - the rooms open to balconies that over look the meadow " so apt the name " Wildlife at your balcony below my kids were up at 5 am and watching the early morning visitors who had come for their drink of water...could just sit and spend hours together. From the main rtoad a 2 minute walk to the homestay gives it the rough look with Kerala and wildlife strewn around the homestay. Well furnished rooms with clean bath rooms ( here too there is a window that over looks the meadow !!! ) hot water all day long - something great - for the chill climate. Huge beds, warm blankets and great breakfast. Sateesh and wife were great hosts not forgetting their smart kids. The local tours arranged by Sateesh were well planned for us, the jungle trek was excellent really enjoyed it with our family of 4.

Room Tip: Higher the rooms better the view

What an experience! And what a house, that place is incredible. If you're looking for a different place to stay but still comfortable and cosy, there you go. Located a hundred meters far from the road and directly facing the jungle this place is the ultimate Keralan experience. Rooms are all very well furnished, and with incredible views on the meadow that faces the jungle. Internet is available, and you're welcome to sit on the watch tower at dusk or dawn to spot some animals...actually you don't even need that because you can see wild boar walking under your balcony every day. If you're lucky and you walk home at night you might see porcupines walking on the track that leads to the house. Only complain was the bathroom, for such nice rooms better showers and toilets would be perfect. And slow hot water, which is anyway a luxury in India, if I understood well. Last but not least, nice family that wants you to feel at home always. Highly reccommended!

We stayed at Meadow View Inn in a watchtower room on third floor, which was really wonderfull. We had a balcony on three sides an could sit there for hours watching the wildlife below. The homestay is located on the edge of a meadow bordering Periyar Tiger Reserve. We didn't see any tigers or elephants there. But sitting on our balcony in the evening we saw a whole family of wild boars with little ones and two mongoose playing. In the morning herds of cattle come walking by.It's location is really great, because it's the only place which is not directly on the roadside, but stands a little bakwards and more into the meadow itself.
The room we had was really beautiful, with big windows so the view from inside is great too. It was clean with a big bathroom and lots of hot water. Loved staying here.

We had a very nice time at this homestay when we visited this place last november. The visit to Periyar lake was well organized. Satish helped us settle in and the visit to periyar the next morning was very well organized.
Food, cleanliness and overall hospitality was very good.
We had gone around Diwali, and we realized that Keralites do not really celebrate this festival. However, seeing our enthu, Sathish got hold of some crackers and we had a nice time celebrating Diwali with his family.
Sathish has good experience organizing treks, etc. and his knowledge of the forest is handy. We will definitely stay with him the next time when our kids are older, and explore periyar more.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms higher up, if you do not have issues climbing up and down the stairs,

Located at a very narrow alley on the right side of the road to the Periyar national park, about 400 meters from the entrance , this is one of the best examples of a small but absolutely lovely guesthouse. After arriving early in Thekkady i decided to take some time to take a look at several guesthouses. Most of them looked ok and clean, and the largescale 'ecofriendly' resorts could even be considered (If your budget allows it), but Meadow View is one of the finest examples of a small-scale, environmentally responsible, guesthose that is built with only natural materials and maintained with so much love. Completely made out of wood it fits perfectly in the landscape, on the edge of an open field directly bordering the reserve. The rooms have all modern amenities and beautiful beds and are situated around a small garden, decoratede with old working tools and pieces of art
It's there since nine years, and incomprehensible that guides like Lonely Planet and Reise Know How have completely neglected it. A little bit hard to find at the end of the 150m alley, but absolutely he best place to stay. Run by a very friendly family.

This place has character that matches the surroundings. It was not on the LP list which pleased me, it is found by word of mouth. Meadow View Inn was the perfect place for a budget-minded sixty-plus year old that had backpacked around the world twice when younger, the type of tourist that wants to experience directly the places visited for a price that provides a clean, safe and friendly experience.

The owner, Satesh had designed his home to reflect his love of the jungle and a simple lifestyle. He showed particular kindness to my wife and I by taking us to his farm and by going out of his way to return to us something that had been left behind.

It was the perfect place for this particular type of tourist. Thank you Satesh and family for helping make Thekkady a great place to visit.

Room Tip: Do not think it necessary to only want the tower room. Each room has its own charm and advantage.

I enjoyed very much a relaxed stay on the first and second floor. It feels like you on a jungle tree house. Very professional and attentive customer care from the owner that shouldn't be taken for granted. Highly recommended for an affordable price of rs.1200 per night.
