We went to Ranger Wood for a massage at the recommendation of our driver. We are very disappointed; the General Manager was our salesman; he was extremely pushy and dishonest in his sales tactics. The rest of the sales staff was just as bad.

The massage overall was okay; the staff worked hard, but was not trained for any kind of therepeutic massage. Expect to leave feeling very oily, but perhaps not very relaxed.

Value overall was very poor; you can get a comparable or better massage up the street for a third the price. And don't expect the massage rooms to live up to the lobby; the rooms themselves are very bare, and not terribly relaxing.

Speaking of money, we are confident that the front desk keeps most of it. If you do like your massage, plan to tip the mesause generously, because they aren't seeing a fraction of the exorbident entry fee.

We ordered wide variety of food here including veg and non-veg, traditional kerala styled, north indian. We told them to make it spicy as we usually like spicy food, given the andhra background.

They have not at all disappointed us and moreover they surprised us with tastes that matched our local cuisines. They patiently served to our asynchronous ordering methods. At the end, we came out with lots of satisfaction.

Pool side view adds up to the tastes. So be descriptive while ordering food and have a sumptuous lunch/dinner.

I recommend this place to anyone.

We stayed in this hotel for a night. This hotel is located very close to Jungle entrance which was very helpful to go to boating in the early morning and also convenient to go for shopping. Bath room has a big window which gives nice view of beautiful nature. Restaurant was nice with variety of choice.

We spent two nights at the Rangerwood Hotel in Thekkady. Just at the entrance to the jungle with a splendid view of forest, swamp and mountains. We were 2 adults with four small children and can definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to spend time in Thekkady. The staff was very helpful and has good experience with jungle safaris and plantation visits. The hotel itself is beautiful and has a very cozy atmosphere.

While looking for AC rooms in thekkady we came to Rangerwoods. We were offered a discounted rate for the tree house (which was still much more expensive than any of their other rooms) and decided to stay there. Our first impression was good since the tree house were quite new, clean and spacious. However since we were a little away from the main hotel we had to walk down there for breakfast or to use the pool. Everytime we needed something we needed to call and wait. In fact we were told by one restaurant staff that everytime we called them up to the tree house we needed to pay a service charge. We were promised a night lamp so that we could look onto the forest at night which we only received after asking thrice. In the end all we got was a torch which was pretty useless. One of the attractions of the treehouse is that it overlooks the periyar forest but the angle at which the verandahs are built does not give you a good view at all. In fact the ranger woods rooms we saw had a better view.
During the night the AC started dripping water onto the bed and we were shifted to the second tree house which has a worst view. Within minutes the AC here too started leaking. The staff and workmen just tramped around checking the AC while we sat in the verandah. Luckily we were only there the one night.
Staff are not very friendly or helpful. The restaurant staff acted as if they were doing us a great favour when we went down there for breakfast. We had better breakfast and service at homestays where we paid a quarter of what we paid here.

We stayed in one of their tree houses which have just been completed. This was ideal for us as we like photographing animals. The tree house, as the name suggests, is at tree top height and was like having our own private hide. We photographed black langur monkeys, woodpeckers, kingfishers, sambar deer and more; things that usually won't let you get too close.
The tree house offers spacious accommodation consisting of a large double bedroom - enough room to put an extra couple of beds if you have children (you'd have to keep an eye on them though because of the height), a large shower room (brightly decorated but clean!) and a beautiful balcony to watch the animals from. The room and balcony are beautifully furnished. As everything was new it was even more of a pleasure to return to in the evening. The hotel does have a pool which is ideal for cooling down after a hot day.
My greatest problem with the hotel was that the food was terrible. There are plenty of other places to eat in Thekkady so that's what we did, ate elsewhere.

Room Tip: Pay extra and stay in one of their tree houses - they only have two. We stayed in 407 (the one on th...
